- FIG Official - Qualifications, Beam. Catalina PONOR (24) is back. Olympic champion in Athens (2004), Ponor is again in the Romanian Team. She missed last 2 World Championships (London 2009, Rotterdam 2010). Her best score : 15.000 on the beam

Wow! I've never seen anyone so rock-solid on the beam. She's the best Romanian gymnast of this century - great to see her back!
The standard and quality of gymnastics this year has been absolutely stunning, the floor final was the best i have ever seen.... SO happy that artistry is back

Wow - she's definitely coming back... she doesn't seem as 'one with the beam' as she was in 2004- but granted she's not been training for that long - this routine was fantastic... bring on BB final London!
I miss her 3/4 bhs to handstand, the way she held that!!!! I'm glad at least the full in is back.

Catalina Ponor não competia desde 2005 (acho), volta com tudo e tirou a nota mais alta até agora. 15.000; Será que esse mundial será como no do ano passado, com muitos erros, muitas notas baixas. Pena que não temos a Mustafina.

Except for the dismount Catalina looks great....it would be nice to see her in London....It would bring back some integrity to a sport that seems to favor the younger and smaller teenagers.....I will just have to wait and see.

I absolutely love Catalina but the chinese were far superior this time. the good thing is that she just came back and I doubt she was really ready for the Worlds, this exercise cannot even compare to the one of Athens and gymnastic has evoluted dramatically in the last years. After a full year of hard training I'm sure she can win another gold on the beam. Go for it Catalina, I will cheer for you all the way to the Olympics!!!
@toetouching well it wouldn't be impossible. In 2006 she had competed an onodi, an aerlial walkover, a full twisting backhaspring, a handspring and a layout all conected without the smallest hesitation. So who knows what she'll be doing in 2012
she did a layout with two feet together twice?!! i thought repeating a move made you loose the skill altogether. is that just on floor??!!?
How much was the deduction on the bad landing?
after 5 years she did well she looks in good fit ,ready for London ....she had to work more to be again what was 5 years ago...

No. She cut the Omelianchik off and added a roundoff-straight layout to it. Also, in 2004 linked leaps were not required.
She is wonder woman of balance beam, like to see her do a Ariel cartwheel into two back hand spring right into layout into spit jump, then her double pike dismount. OMG she so pretty up there
I'm not sure is the full-in is worth it at this point.
How people can compare her to Chinese gymnasts is beyond me. The Chinese girls are younger and more flexible but they do NOT ROCK BEAM like it's floor like Ponor does.... Great wonderful beam for her comeback.. .Bravo Catalina....
