The only reason why I prefer shorts is that there are no sponsored segments and no ads, so for the little sketches and shorter content it's nice. I hate that you can't fast forward as people still somehow seem to have so much fluff in the SHORTS
As someone who cleans a gym for a living, thank you for promoting the sentiment of leaving it better than you found it. If everyone had this mindset, I could do my job much more efficiently and squeeze workouts in more often! Love your videos! 💕
You did neglect growingannanas on your tier video! She's got some pretty solid workouts (my wife and I have been rocking her stuff for the last 6 months to very good results) so I would like to hear your thoughts on her workout spiciness. Great vid man!
possible comment question of the week: is it really that important to switch up your workout every few weeks? if you are doing the "most effective" exercises (like RDLs, bulgarian split squats and hip thrusts for glutes) would it not be more effective to just always stick to that routine or at least only change the "less effective" exercises (like maybe switch abductor exercises to a glute kickback)? thank you for the great content! love your channel and the positivity you spread:)
I think they recommend to switch to avoid getting bored then you become unmotivated to keep working out. But yeah i also want to know if theres specific reason
It's generally recommended to keep consistent with a movement until you can stop progressively overloading it, essentially "milk it" for as long as possible. Sure, switching things up may keep things fresh and enjoyable, and enjoyment is a factor to consider, but you can't measure much progress in a movement with only a couple of weeks.
As for what I wear to the gym, I am always switching it up between shorts, leggings, sportbras, crop top, big t-shirts and I feel equally comfortable in all of them :) outfits don’t define us!! Look cute as a way to motivate yourself, or cover up if that takes some of the energy spent on worrying about your body so you can fully focus on the workout!! Both are valid❤
Actually super impressed with that first glute workout. Ever since big butts became a thing it's like everyone forgot how glutes actually work because they just want views. The squat looked kinda awkward, but I've never used a Smith machine so maybe it's not as bad as it looks.
I have a (yoga) mat that has alignment marks on it that I put in front of my bench when I do bulgarians. This mat is one of the best fitness investments I have made as far as checking alignment, distance, etc.
I love the detailed of advice you go into. It’s not straight up critique or reaction for the sake of entertainment, your videos are super helpful. You rock, Harry!

Question: What are your thoughts on stretching before and/or after a work out? Is it necessary and if so what are the most effective stretches you would recommend? Thanks!
Definitely not necessary, and in the case of before, it can be detrimental to power output if you're stretching for greater than 30 or 60 seconds at a time (I forget what the literature states specifically) before training the same muscle group. It doesn't help with recovery either, or at least there's no solid evidence that it does. For some people, though, it just feels good after training and it helps them recover their breathing and heart rate, and that's definitely a fine reason to do it!
Don't stretch before the workout. Relaxed muscles are the opposite from what you wanna achieve. But I definitively stretch and mobilize after a workout, that way I wont feel so stiff the next day.
@@Moose92411don’t totally disagree with you, but there is a lot of nuance you are missing by completely shunning the idea of stretching. For one: what type of stretching are we talking about? Yes, what you are saying applies to static stretching. But dynamic stretching is not only great but beneficial as a warm up and improving overall flexibility and mobility. Also, yes, the fact that static stretching can negatively effect performance is a ‘fun fitness fact’ that floats around, but it’s not as “detrimental” as people say. It does interfere with performance, but it’s not a big deal at all. Especially if it’s brief and you still follow through with a proper warm up and muscle priming. So unless you are an athlete actually preparing for an event where “power output” is crucial and every 1/2 a pound counts, it doesn’t matter. Also static stretching is not completely useless. It does help especially if you pair it with dynamic stretching and strengthening. Look at martial artists and gymnasts. Kicks and flips are essentially dynamic stretching, but it’s still supplemented with static drills to improve flexibility. Anecdotally I can tell you my hips have loosened by doing static poses like the lotus position over time.
Doing some dynamic stretching before a workout as part of your warm up can be very beneficial. As far as static stretching, I’d say save them for after your workout. Unless you have a stubborn tight area, then maybe adding some foam rolling and static stretching before hand can help. Just be sure to still do proper muscle priming - sometimes doing too much static stretching can make our muscles too loose, to the point that they are unstable for a lift. So be mindful of that.
I usually mark the position of my legs when I'm hipthrussting by putting a wather bottle on the floor. I'm loosing my strength every time at the start of the set while adjusting 90'angle so it's easier with the bottle 😉
If I wanted shorts I’d be on TikTok, which I have no interest in. I’m pretty over everyone’s feeds being dominated by them, tbh. Happy that I can scroll right through, though!!
Ok so I’ve always wondered about this: for example GainsByBrains has a great physique and she’s been training hard for years and years, but her weights to me seem pretty moderate, if not on the low end for someone with this amount of muscle mass and this amount of lifting experience. And I know every individual is different and everyone has different strength levels and physiques at those levels of strength, but I’m just a bit confused how these people like GainsByBrains are only able to RDL 18kgs (I use 28kgs after 3 years of lifting) and hipthrust 100kg (I use 160kg after again, 3 years of lifting) (just using my own weights as a reference point to explain my confusion). How are these creators able to build and improve their physique and continue to ‘grow’ when their weights don’t seem proportional to their training experience? I hope I explained this well without discrediting any hard-working creators or coming across as someone who’s boasting😅 but genuinely wondering about the reasons behind this and the level of transparency these creators provide.
I think there are several reasons behind this. 1. They simply didn’t eat enough to be able to lift heavier weights 2. They focus on form and change up the way they perform eg hipthrusts. So taking their time to up the weights by doing more reps etc. 3. Deload days. 4. Could be on their periods too, you’d be able to lift less weight depending on how heavy your periods is. But I’d say it’s mostly reason number 1
I think gainsbybrains mentioned a few times focusing on form and time under tension. This helps more with muscle hypertrophy as opposed to training for strength specifically.s
Also one thing about the leggings: As a woman I've been wearing tights to the gym since forever, but I recently tried wide leg shorts and NEVER AGAIN. Whenever I bent down to pick up my towel or some weights, whenever I squatted or did an RDL, the fabric rode up my butt and got stuck there. I don't know how y'all do it.
RE: what you wear at the gym. I had an interesting experience recently. I was getting more fit and I got this new work out top that showed a bit of my mid section (although no arms or chest, as it has a high neckline and long sleeves.) the first day I wore it at the gym I got hit on by a guy. I’m married tho and always go to the gym with my husband so I had to awkwardly end the conversation. So even tho I was feeling myself and felt fitter and good or whatever, I suddenly felt weird and insecure again. I later decided I shouldn’t worry and just feel comfortable in what I want tho.
Funny what you pointed out about the split squats. I just did them yesterday and said the exact same thing to myself. "Man these don't get any easier, how come I still get sore from it every time?" But for that exact reason I love them, I don't have access to a gym or heavy weights right now and they're a great way to still challenge my lower body
