I am a beginner at this even at the age of 69, i didnt really understand what an ILS was but your detail of explaining not once but two or three times as really helped me, i did this flight in the DA62 and it worked perfectly. Thank you for your very instructive videos i do enjoy them.
I like how you repeated the instructions several times. That is a very good way of reinforcing the information. the most imp thing here is the ACTIVE freq is on the right and not the highlighted one on the left. i was doing everything right except selecting the right NAV freq for ILS. i was always flying into the middle of the airport which is the tower freq 😭 This vid helped in getting the last bit right. many thanks 🙏
Good video but you lowered your flaps at too high a speed. Below 85 knots, as indicated by the white bar on the airspeed indicator, is when it is safe - for the airframe - to do so. You likely already knew that but, for the sake of newbies, could have pointed that out.

The following is NOT a criticism but rather a suggestion (and maybe you have done it already). Show the viewers in the same direct, simple and precise way you have done how to set up the flight plan to do this sort of thing. It took me several weeks to realize that it can be done and how to do it and I was particularly delighted to find out that you can pick your ILS runway. You have a real gift and you would make an excellent teacher if you aren't already one (spoken by a retired teacher).

The AP up top stands for autopilot, not approach. The only way to know approach is active is when you see the glide slope.

I enjoyed this video, but you didn't say were you obtained the real ILS frequencies. The ones in the sim are wrong and never show up in bearing or as LOC1. I use SkyVector to get the frequency for the runway of the airport I will fly to and load it in to Nav1 before I takeoff, then is shows up when you get near the destination. Other than that thanks for a very informative video.

This is the first time I was able to figure out how ILS really works. Searched and looked at many tutorials on youtube but nothing ne was found to be so direct, simple and quick as well as concise yet detailed enough to do whats needed.
I am into this since only about a month now. I love it. Have dabbled into it umpteen years ago in its infancy days when computer graphics too were terribly simple and uninteresting yet we loved it then too.
I really would like to thank you again for making it so simple and possible for almost anyone to achieve ILS.

A few points here, I was unable to select gate 8 at departure but it all worked out in the end with selection of an alternate gate which I believe was gate 2 perhaps.
And for some reason while I was flying at altitude of 1500 I kept on getting this constant and never ending reminder to increase altitude to 5000 without any stop. Is there a way in setup to avoid such messages? I sent ATC msg for decrease in altitude by various preset available heights which got denied each time.

Top of the white ribbon on airspeed indicator is the max speed for deploying flaps. You put on the flaps at higher than the maneuvering speed of the 172, which I recall is 105 knots. Good video though!

Thanks for this, I did everything you said in the video, but between the two-way points, you said to press cd1 and approach button, the AP automatically switched screens to cd 1 and the plane went off course. I had to use the back on course button and nav mode to get it to go back on course. Then I press cd1 and the approach button it worked then. I have had this bug happen many times on me.

I've tried using that instrumentation, but everything on that instrument is so tiny, I can't use it, at all, without using the magnifying feature, and even then, it's frustratingly difficult. I much prefer the Cessna 152, and it's analogue gages, and larger numbers, in the old school radio stack. I don't see how, even a person with full on 20/20 could use that tiny instrumentation, in real life, what with all the buffeting, and jostling from turbulence. LOL Obviously, they do, but only if they're in their 20s, I'd imagine. LOL Thanks for the video.

Very usefull video, finally I understood why my ILS approach does not get active sometimes. I was missing the correct NAV frequency. The only information I miss is how do you know what exact frequency to put as an active NAV? I suppoose those numbers change from airport to airport. So how do I know what number to put in? I beleive it can be activated by proper ATC communication with the tower during IFR flight, but I had situations when it just did not work. So can I find the proper frequency somewhere, to put it in manually? Thanks for your help.

You started off with fuel pumps, starter motors and parking brakes, but didn't mention the flight plan!! For a beginner, much of this tutorial made no sense without the flight plan.
I followed this awesome video! really well done, But my plane would not contact Glide Scope I never see a diamond :( is there something I am doing wrong ?
I followed your instruction and did autopilot navigation. Also I tracked my progress using VFR map when I am on outside view. Everything was going well until the last time I use VFR map my game exited. I guess I have to start again and this time I will not use VFR map.
Everything happened just as you instructed except that my transition from FMS to LOC1 was done by the plane itself. Thanks for the tutorial and smooth flight.
When I pressed approach mode under the guide slope, the plane pitched up and started stalling trying to "catch up" to it and became unstable
I've seen a video that used the PROC button to activate an ILS approach. Can it be done that way without hunting for the frequency?
My question is how are you setting up all those waypoints when I go to the world map I want to select an airport to depart from and an airport for arrival and it’s just showing a straight flight no way points and when I press the CDI button there was no LOC 1 there was loc 2 gps and vor those were my selections Any suggestions

Why did the 'O' for the outer market disappear around the 30 minute mark? There was a big recognition about the 'O' appearing about the 'G' (for glideslope), but when the diamond started to drop, the 'O' disappeared? Any reason why -- and is it automatic?

What does it mean if the glide slope indicator diamond is below the middle?
Why reduced speed and flaps so early? I wouldn't even consider that, especially coming into a major airport, until the outer marker at the earliest in a 172. I guarantee that, in most cases, ATC will ask you to keep your speed up until short final.

You never say where you got the nav frequency from. I know how to pull up maps from skyvector but the frequency for the approach is too high to be entered in the nav radio. The only one that will work is the atis.

@@azayomi One of my biggest problems with the sim is that it is too hard to find ILS frequencies in game. XBox players will have this at some point. Do you really think they are the type of people/gamers that are going to have a bunch of third party add-ons set up to play a game? Good video all told!
did you pre-program the flight to take in all those waypoints to lead you round that route or did the approach mode generate them?
The GPS has the waypoints. 22:52 change the GPS to LOC1, at that point it is no longer using the GPS.

You can enter the waypoints and the flight plan in the world map so you can have your approach set up from there.
I followed this flight plan exactly, about 10 times. Everytime I get between NEXUS and NITRO (at 5,000ft), I switch to LOC1 and press APR. The plane starts to turn around and starts diving towards the ground, or starts making a circluar pattern. I pre-programmed NAV1 and NAV2 to 108.10 and CRS to 222. Not sure what is actually going on or if its some kind of bug.
I am aware they released a Japan world scenery update for the game. I will fly it again and if I have anything more to contribute I will update you!

How do you know what nav freq to input?
In the description of this video ua-cam.com/video/7TDMrHfQn78/v-deo.html there is a number of nav freq you can use. There is more than one way to obtain them.
How about going over the ILS approach plate and explain the altitude step down? Navigraph has one. Unless you're going to use the Stdby Nav1 frequency for something, isn't it safer to set both to the ILS frequency? "On the right" might not be best way to explain the active freq. On Comm frequencies, active is on the left. Maybe better to just say the active frequency is the one on the "inside"? You said ILS guides you down but GPS keeps you on track laterally during approach. I believe the localizer is what keeps you on track laterally! BTW the ILS approach plate indicates that there is mandatory 5000' at NEXUS and you should also be 5000' at NITRO!! Will take you a long time before you see capture glide slope at 1500'. You went over the Nav1 frequency soooo many times, it became very confusing. You might consider cutting out non-essential parts of the video instead of filling the time repeating yourself. Just some thoughts. Love your video subjects and will keep watching!!
Also, he never demonstrated setting the course for the ILS. You can see he pre-set it to 223, as it switched from 222 to 223 when he went switched the CDI from GPS mode to VLOC mode.
Can you let the autopilot land the aircraft?
So a few planes can flare with the autopilot but this is not one of them.
