Brennan: sure, what are the fuckin odds
The fucking odds:
5%. If someone had asked what the odds are, he might've even said it before they finished.
Kid named Odds:
With Ally, the odds seem higher. I remember in their New York based campaign she had a similar roll that was similarly ridiculous.

I love how you can see Brennan’s life flash before his eyes as he tries to figure out how the fuck he’s supposed to have this make sense.
200th like
I rewatched this idk how many times, just to see Brennan’s face. Absolutely priceless; especially the last reaction he looked like😅. Gotta love it man
And then he perfectly brings back all the loose ends from the first episodes and makes it fucking WORK dog
@@awesomepawn2 'cuz Brennan is a goddamned genius.
He ties it up like he planned for it since day 1
I just love the "please heal me" at the end
Tank life can be hard
Rizz was a squishy little goblin boy, but yes
@@lukaswithakay humans are real squishy, when you think about it...
There is no tank position in a TTRPG. That's a MMO thing.
@@silverfawkes1219 I mean barbarian, heavy fighter, and paladin would care to disagree. Not to mention moon druids.
@@silverfawkes1219 What do you mean? Barbarian has D12 hit dice, encourages constitution with unarmored defense, and gets resistance to the three most common types of damage. And that’s before subclasses. Bear totem gives resistance to everything except psychic, and the entire point of the zealot subclass is to not die, and to not stay down if you do. If a barbarian isn’t a tank, I don’t know what is.
For me, this ties for first with the time Lou rolled a nat 20 in the box of doom against Brennan's nat 20.
That was f**kin sick as well
So many epic nat 20s in this series
With advantage
That one was so good because he almost wasn't going to do it and we're all yelling at the screen you have to try!
I agree. Here your reaction is like „what?!“ but back then it was the box of doom, stuff was at stake, he HAD to get a nat 20 and he SERVED that was not just „awesome“, not even „amazing“ but INSANE
What ep was this? • - •
Tfw when you, the DM, half-seriously allow a player to make a roll for something and they score the Nat 20...
Indeed, Brennan looks all sorts of “well... shit.” I don’t have players as chaotic as the D20 folks but my god do I see myself in Brennan’s position more times than I’d like
a 1 in 20 chance is far from astronomical. Never give your players something you'd regret.
I mean a nat 20 while unconcious does get you back up so it does fit in the rules.
I think he gave Ally an extra death save but tbh as a DM myself players often need it..... the amount of nat 1s rolled on death saves I have seen is haunting.
And like it’s a 5% chance. That’s a long enough shot, especially with dice, to make those sorts of deals with. High stakes with fairly long odds
@@CathodeRayKobold i don't think you should never do it!! It's fun to spice things up a bit, and allowing rolls like that occasionally can make for really hilarious moments and interesting twists :)
I loved Murphs gasp as he looks at Brennan.
I always love Murph's "How ya gonna handle this shit?" looks at Brennan, from one DM to another.
"Sure, go for it"

If this didn't happen, they probably would've had a tpk and the ENTIRETY of sophomore year wouldn't've happened which is absolutely insane to think about
Nah, I think Brennan probably would have found another way to remind them of the watch.
no, because she was still "dead," so the scene with her meeting Arthur in Corn Heaven would have been pretty much exactly the same
Upvoted for wouldn't've
Whats a tpk
@@shortlegsthekingofgnomes8962 A total party kill, when an encounter kills every (playable) character in the party.

No joke some of their rolls, including this one, actually felt like divine intervention
Cause they are faked. Don’t blame them they are putting on a show, but to believe they didn’t stop filming is a bit of a stretch for seasoned performers.
@@wafflemasta3516 And do you have any PROOF of this, or are you just incapable of imagining that a group of professional comedians who are trained in improv had a lucky roll after roughly 24 hours of total gameplay and made something out of it?

I love how Brennan is able to just roll with this ridiculous moment he didn’t plan for and incorporate it so organically into the finale of the campaign. And somehow also create some of the most memorable lines and moments from Fantasy High 😂 That’s an unshakable DM right there.
For clarity since it was edited out(of the episode, not this clip)- Ally asked to make death saving throws again after having become stabilized. If you roll a 20 on a death save you come back with 1 HP. This was less of a "can roll randomly to see if I get a nat 20" and was in many ways a gamble since they very well could have killed their character with this roll. Holy shit what a comeback.
Eh, Brennan didn't say that they'd start up death saves again. This was back in Season 1, Ally is still very new at the game by this point, I think they very well could just just be asking to come back to life in a way that doesn't match the mechanics. I remember Brennan once said, since Ally is so infamous for campaign-ending Nat 20s, that this one was the craziest since it didn't even have the rules backing it up.
Also, Ally uses they/them if you didn't know
Edit: lmao I corrected your pronoun use and got them wrong in the same comment. Fixed.
@@porkchopsensei2742 Ah mb on the pronoun usage. As for the death saves I was certain this was brought up in one of the adventuring party episodes but I could be misremembering. Any chance you can direct me to Brennen discussing that nat 20 and how it wasn't rules related?
@@hasmhas I'm not certain, but it was in one of the final episodes Adventuring Party for Unsleeping City Chapter 2, in reference to *SPOILERS*
Ally's classic Nat 20 was instead a Nat 4 on a d4 for Bend Luck on Kingston/Lou's Divine Intervention, which got the entire city of New York to simultaneously protest Gladiator and gave the entire party advantage on every d20 roll. That was what got the discussion going on Ally and their clutch end-season rolls, and Brennan mentioned the thing in that conversation.
Wish I could narrow it down further, sorry.
The thing was that Ally was already stabilized, they asked Brennan if they could roll a d20 to see if they can get a nat 20 so Kristen could get up and they wouldn't have a tpk at the hands of Kalvaxis, Ally rolled a 20 and the rest is history
@@juanjorodriguez6211 Brennan did state in an earlier adventuring party episode that, even if Ally maybe didn't realize it, asking to roll for another death save would have meant that they would have to start making death saves again, potentially killing their character.
Murph “pLeAsE hEaL mE”
I love that this floored Brennan, his brain was spinning a thousand miles an hour in his head
IIRC they tape two episodes at a time, so he had to have come up with the solution to this in the short break between the taping of the penultimate and the last episode. And this isn't even the fastest ass-pull moment he's done. There's writing Avanash from just a short footnote in his lore bible, and Rekha nat 20-ing ghosts into existence. Both times, he had to do it in-episode, so even if the cameras shut off, I doubt he'd have had as long a break as one between episodes to come up with a solution.
The universe knew it needed a Fantasy High sequel so the Chosen One Gilear could be found.
This is why DM's should fear the "You could certainly try..."
Its important to always let them and be merciless when they fail.
In this moment Brennan knew to fear Ally's dice rolls
Corn God said "Welcome back, Knew you'd be back"
Kristen Applebees, immediately after this roll: “jk lol bye”
Brennan: "sure, I'll allow it"
Also Brennan: regrets immediately 🤣
The look on the DM's face says it all, first its like whoa wtf then its like damn now what do I do.
Poor Brennan. The look he gives is absolutely priceless when the roll lamds.
It was about to be a TPK. This one magnificent roll completely turned the game around and into a whole different direction. Props to Brennan for the amazing thing that comes next.
Seeing the dm’s “you can certainly try” face fade is always the best moment. Especially with Matt cause hes always got a smug look. Weirdly with matt his “you can certainly try” face, smug look doesnt give me the same vibes as actually smug asshole. But like brennan in the clip. Absolutely stoic. Well until she got the nat 20.
and thus, from this one moment, Ally went on to prove that they are the deity of dice, the destroyer of destiny, fuckin GOAT for the rest of their goddamn dnd career. they are chaos in the most beautiful, poetic way
This led to the craziest shit ever, heaven be thy witness
Corn god be praised! He bestows only the kernels of truth!
YES!
🌽 Maize be!! 🌽
I love how Ally is full of nothing but praise for Helio at this moment but literally, a moment later (next episode) still renounces him and even creates a new god for themself, a god that, mind you, they promptly begin to dislike.
yeah shes a fair-weather follower of the Corn

Brennan was just staring there like “what the actual f”
Literally so much changed by Brennan just going "Eh, sure, they're not gonna get it"
This is one of those times as a DM you just so tired that you dont realize what you agree to and it just makes way more work for you.
I love how ally smirked a bit because they knew what would happen and Brennan was just in disbelief
Ally is the special sauce in D20. They are just truly the best. So cool, so great.
I keep getting recommended these and I don't know how dungeons and dragons works but I recognize these people and they also seem like they're having so much fun
Watch the series. They give a pretty good estimation of what an average game is like.
This first season is on UA-cam for free and I would 100% recommend it!! If it’s not only interesting to learn about the game, but also the story is so good and these characters are amazing. I didn’t know anything about DnD prior to this and now I’m starting my first campaign soon thanks to this show!

This was so fucking epic. Love how the nat 20 paused combat and got it's own story
Never let your players roll for something you aren't prepared for them to succeed at
Nah, let em roll always. Thats how cool stuff happens.
You can never prepare for the shit players come up with.
true but while i think brennan wasnt EXPECTING ally to succeed here it wasn’t that he couldn’t make it work when they did. hence the perfectly foreshadowed scene of kristen in heaven that he then delivers on
but also brennans improvisation skills are SO not normal for a dm lmao
Nor fail at. I have a DM who has us roll and we all fail and it was a plot important device then we have an hour of fairly nonexistent play as our characters go in circles and constantly at dead end where even us players are stumped and getting frustrated. This has been happening like every other time we play. Then other things that we should totally roll for we are just given it
True but this is just the rules. Nat 1 you get two failed saves. Nat 20 you heal to 1 hp and get up
"Uh, sure, go for it."
Famous last words, Brennan.
I swear Ally has an unparalleled ability to manifest the things they want.
Ally's Nat 20 is always on point and turned the tide of the game.
This really was a good campaign to watch. So many clutch nat 20s
Never let Ally do anything for a natural 20, the roll will always be a 20
I remember how loud I screamed when I first saw this episode!
Brennen’s look of utter disbelief is just priceless lol
Roles nat 20
DM: visible confusion and disbelief
the "please heal me" at the end
Relatable.
And to this day, Ally still has the most poetic rolls I've ever seen.
Spoilers:
For context: everyone was down except for Fabian who had very little health left and he had no healing skills. Ally making this roll literally saved the whole campaign.
"made the roll" but did any of US see it? Lol
That nat 20 hit so hard the credits started rolling
For people who haven’t seen the show, they were on course for a TPK before this happened
That look is Brennan rewriting his entire ending in his head on the spot
The first of many moments of greatness
From stunned to the gears of a master improvisor engaging
Reminds me of the time when our warlock got stuck in a thorn golem rolled a nat 20 woke up and fireballed himself and the golem into oblivion.
the music on this moment makes it that much more emotional
My jaw hit the floor the first time I saw this!
“Sure, go for it” is what DMs say before disaster
Everyone else: hype
dm: how tf am I gonna make this work with the plot
After seeing this there's only one sentence that comes to mind. "I didn't hear no Bell"
And thus began the tradition of Ally Beardsley rolling nat 20s in every season finale, and making Brennan more and more inasane.
Sidenote. It's funny how in this season, both Ally and Lou got insane nat 20s (in Lou's case he beat a natural Brennan's nat 20 with his own roll of nat 20), but out of the two of them, Ally is the one who is kept being lucky in their rolls, but Lou got even unluckier as more seasons were made.
That look on Brennan’s face always gives me a solid gold chub.
This moment in the clip was what started Ally's nat 20 luck when she needs it the most. In Breanen's words "THEY DO THIS EVERY DAMN SEASON!"- season 2 finale of fantasy high
no, brennan uses ally's correct pronouns when he discusses them
Brennan re-writing weeks of lore on the fly just to have this one instance make sense
That was pretty epic
That dude at the end: Pls heal me
Brennan learned an important lesson about letting your players roll bullshit for laughs that day.
Brennan is just... broken.
Once rolled 2 nat 20s in a row landing s double crit throwing a shoe at a manticore to kill it while underleveled
Did you kill it? Please tell me you killed it
Ally's powers of manifestation are genuinely fucking insane.
Such a modest "sure, go for it."
The humble beginnings of Ally's immense power where the corn God bestowed them the Beardsley Blessed
I love his face when his plans get fucked up 🤣
Brennan just allowing that to happen is why Dimension20 is my favourite tabletop gang
Lovely piece of improv narration by brennan too after this
literally prayed for intervention 😂
This was literally the most epic nat 20 of the season!
You can see the gears turning in Brennan’s eyes
Helios saving Kristen at the last possible second is truly a full circle moment
Everyone: “OH MY GOD THIS IS INSANE”
Murph: “Haha yeah that was crazy now DO YOUR JOB”
This is even funnier now because in new campaigns you can see him weigh it up in his mind whenever Ally asks questions like this. 😂
I love her awkward half-punch to avoid hitting the dragon mini.
I love Brennan's Blue Screen face. You can tell his brain is just SCREAMING, trying to completely rewrite what he already had in mind
I love the pause as they look at the d20 in disbelief before they announced that they got a nat20
I love the look on Brennan's face every time this happens. Like "Why, Corn God? I don't have a plan for this."
I swear Ally is some sort of dice deity
This is why Brennan always says, never let someone roll unless you're prepared for the consequences
Every dm will one day know the pain of saying “sure go for it”
Murph's little please "please heal me" at the end
One of my favorite things about this scene is Murph's smirking face thinking it wouldn't work AND IT DID and he gasped and looked at Brennan in shock
In that split second Brennan’s brain connects so many dots and improvs some of the coolest and entertaining parts of the entire narrative
I love his malfunction of disbelief 😂😂😂
That is the face of a man who just had to throw his entire page of session notes.
This absolutely was the most ***clutch*** nat 20 I've ever seen. One of my all time favotmrite DnD moments!!!
This is on the same level as Cap being exhausted, and all of a sudden Dr. Strange's portals start opening and the entire team shows up, and the theater audience goes ballistic with hope.
I love that you can see the exact moment Brennan’s mind went from shock to, “shit got to improvise something right now”.
Brennan looks like he's experiencing the 5 stages of grief all at once
Damn I miss watching these. I found them literally a year ago this month, and then ultimately forgot the channel name.
I've got to rewatch these again
The start of the Beardsley Blessed Rolls 😂 Istg if Dropout sold dice that were just touched by Ally they’d make BANK. I’d pay anything for that level of luck
Ally always get's the clutch Nat 20s and Brennan always makes them feel special. The episode right after this scene was so good.
Ally is the positive counter balance to Wil Wheaton’s “so bad it’s statistically improbable” dice rolls
what they are saying "this is to the corn god" what I'm hearing is "praise be Khorne!".
