This is very close to Arkham Knight's graphics, and the same engine, basically, We waited 4 years to reach this quality in a real game.
And whats is arkham knight for you.!? Not real, a joke game.? This is a Demo, arkham a full game and free roam.!

Dude, no disrespect...but are you pouting in that photo? A guy...doing duckface? :-+

max enzo This demo was later run on a single gtx 680. Like watchdogs, Samaritan demo and star wars 1313.
Arkham knight is a full game that is very close if not better considering it was achieved while being held back by consoles, while using unreal engine 3 when 4 was out, aswell as an entire dense city not just a concentrated dense spot like this demo.
Here from the ue5 tech demo
If it takes 4 years for these graphics to make it into actual games, it implies we'll be seeing the UE5 tech demo graphics by 2024-2025.
@Victor Keep in mind this 2011 tech demo is a pre-rendered cutscene, which is why actual gameplay graphics haven't really caught up yet. The UE5 demo is actual real-time gameplay. Cutscene CGI is always about 10 years ahead of gameplay CGI, because it doesn't have to be rendered in real-time.
@@MentalParadox No, this was not pre-rendered, Epic made a big deal about it running on GTX 480s back in the day. IIRC you could even download this demo at one point. There's also the 'Infiltrator' demo, which was once again real-time, from about 7 years ago. That was on an SLI machine.
@@MentalParadox true, finally someone understands.
@@MentalParadox This tech demo is a real time render. If this was pre-rendered it wouldn't even be worthy of mention. Gameplay graphics have completely caught up and gone well beyond what this video is showing. I'm very confused at why people think we're not past this ??
Now, Batman Arkham Knight actually have this visual fidelity. Would have been cool if Epic make a game of Samaritan someday
They still didn't lol
Just play Cyberpunk 2077 ;-)
I'd say this looked more awesome then their Unreal Engine 4 demo. This really should become a game...
UE5 lol
@@mc-snack3316 wh?
This still looks better than every PS4 game and it's 9 years old.
For those asking, Samaritan was actually a game called Project Nano/Blueprint, however it was only discovered 2 years after this tech demo thanks to a leak, but appearently either the game was on hold or cancelled, the character is named Owen, his transformed model is present on the Unreal 4 Content Example.
Blueprint name was likely carried over to the Blueprint that UE4 users known as the UDK's Kismet sucessor.
No one gives a shite

Hi,
I am from the future.
They will name a micropolygon renderer for UE5 "Nanite". And makes your common even more interesting.
Who's getting unreal engines demo's in UA-cam recommendations
ME!
ME!!!;🌠🌠🌠
Devs are
and still nobody thought about making a game on this character :'(
Honestly, I can't belive they didn't make a game out of this. I've seen footage of the 'Samaritan' character fully functional and playable.
I've been told that this game is currently in production by Epic.
Ben horn I've heard such rumours before, none of them have been true so far.

You mean the matrix UR5 tech demo!
Yep, still remember watching this 9 years ago during my college time... I'm 31 now... 😢
Same here. But it's great to actually experience this transition.
Same here bro
me too...
Such a shame that no one made a game with this concept and character, it looks so freaking badass and actually gave me the impression it could fill in the gap that Prey 2 never happening left.
Didn't Dues Ex Mankind Divided already have done it?
@@MrArakhon And Wolfenstein 2014 trailer too :p
Cyberpunk looks close but it's using a different engine
Arkham Knight is close enough
the cyberpunk we never knew we needed...
Unreal engine got the power to run such detailed graphics since 2011 But it is not until BATMAN Arkahm Knight 2015 in ps4 xbox1 that we acctually see them in action? thats 4 years man
Anthony Marquez Consoles held this technology back for coming into games. Now that the 10 year old console crap is finally renewed we can upgrade game's graphics.
then maybe nex gen consoles will held back unreal engine 4 with its pixar quality potential
Anthony Marquez Most probably. Maybe if they made the Next gen consoles 600 dollars instead of 400 they could have made the hardware so it could play more up to date graphics.
official centy
nope dumb ass im talking engine capabilty not console or harware capabilty,
you should comment on ign
MadBros How long do you think the development cycle is for a AAA game title?
They couldn't have, at least, made this a *playable* demo.
I remember seeing this demo and thinking "wow, that's almost like real life". And now I'm like: "Meh, blurry textures, particles are not so good, etc") Amazing how things are changing.
This is my go-to benchmark to remind myself how far graphics have advanced, I rewatch it every year or so
@@scribeslendy595 What games match the level of lighting, reflections, shadows and effects of this trailer?
@@atuls55 Almost all modern games meet or exceed these graphics. The hard dynamic shadows are a dead give away for me.
@@chargeddreamer7737 I haven't played Arkham Knight but what I've seen of the videos it doesn't look like it has this level of lighting/effects. It looks dull and flat in comparison to this.
No game has reached this graphics, not even in 2020.
Can't a dude just smoke a cigarette in peace? Gosh.
I've been visiting this clip every couple of months for the past 7 years. I love the main theme and the character design. I even did a write up on all the little details in this trailer that hinted at how messed up the world is in here. I really wish they did something with this character and concept.
Back yet again in 2019 and still sad there's nothing starring this character. It's crazy, they put a LOT into this trailer (I don't think I can link it on YT, but I did a summary of what I noticed 5 years ago) :
-Samaritan seems to have intentionally abnormally short arms, everyone is proportioned normally, but his arms come up noticeably short
-This takes place in Washington D.C. and seems to be some sort of cyberpunk future, things don't look great, but with the Whitehouse standing and TV reports and other things still functioning society doesn't seem to have collapsed; the stores have adult stores, drugs and ammo stores, BUT also have stores for used cyborg (and android?) bodyparts if you look at the signs closely.
-It's 9pm and there's a strict curfew in effect. The billboard says "ALERT"
-The cops are jerks, but they specifically were searching for SOMETHING and then once the spot light targets the old woman, they go after her rather brutally. She was clearly hobbling around and trying to quickly get away as it was nearing 9pm. Could she be a mutant, infected, or something that caught their attention?
-What the heck else other than Samaritan is lurking around if there’s enough need for the police to be heavily armored shock troopers that utilize Giant Battle Mechs? Other than possibly cyborg and android citizens, do we have mutants running around? Is that why there's a strict curfew?
-Just who or what is Samaritan and what was he breaking into at the start of the trailer? While he easily wasted the cops and didn't give a crap about the mech's authority, he's got an American Flag on the back of his jacket. He also shifts frequently from rock form to human. He seems pretty capable in both forms, but it seems that either just to show of the effect for the trailer, or the character's powers, he seems limited to the amount of time he spends in each form.
Yeah, I know I over analyzed this lol but see, there's a lot put into this and they could totally make a game, or even a series of games if they wanted to. Still hoping this gets utilized someday.
bro it's not that deep
@@ShockyD I, for one, appreciate the attention to detail you put in
@Mr. Manager: Thanks, much appreciated!
I actually know this character in real life, I'll pass on your kind words to him.
And today we have Unreal 5!
I think its safe to say we finally reached this point of graphics!
i think we are well above this. this looks like early ps4 graphics.
Check out the unreal 5 demo that just got posted

Not quite
A 2011 tech demo looks much better than a 2023 game called Starfail
Wish this was a legit game, there's a lot of character in here for a mere tech demo.
there is still no game about this
So... we got unreal engine 4 out, and till today I cant think of a single game that looked this good.
.
+dosduros witcher 3? well maybe its a little bit worse, but its pretty close on ultra
Batman Arkham City
Sea Wagon arkham city? lol.... neither the lighting, nor the water or the level of detail gets close...
Tyr Krustak Arkham Knight lol
Still waiting for this to be a game
I wish this would be a real game. Seems like an amazing universe
Make this a game. It would be epic to be whoever this guy is.
Its funny cause all these demos they've presented over the years we never got anything close to them in real games.
Yes we have. Arkham Knight looks basically identical to this and actually better in many ways.
@@Rot_Soft yeah but if you look the unreal engine 3 was designed for ps3 era games... Arkham knight came out in the ps4 years. So no we didn't lol because Arkham Knight doesn't look anywhere close to what we got with unreal engine 4. So no we didn't bruv
@@Mrsmifff Arkham Knight runs on Unreal engine 3 and looked better than this. Mortal kombat 11 runs on UE3 and looks better than this. So you are wrong. And we also have games that look better than the UE4 demo that run on UE4, like Gears 5.
@@Mrsmifff Um, you shouldn't assume that you'd be getting these graphics on current-gen the day they were released. They ran this demo on 3 GTX 580's. That's obviously not possible to achieve on PS3 and Xbox 360 tech. That's a fallacy on your behalf because you thought for some reason that this should run on 2011 consoles, what a joke.
Unreal Engine 3 was designed for cross-platform not just PS3 era games. The engine is scalable, it's gotten regular support over the years inline with the PC's growing capabilities. The number suffixed at the end of Unreal Engine numbers only increase when there's a generational shift, that doesn't mean that they cant strive for better graphics beyond what current-gen consoles are capable of. The point of this tech demo was to demonstrate that Unreal Engine can do these things if you give it the hardware to. That's not faking anything, they made no promise that it would be able to run on consoles duh. And we are well beyond these graphics now.
@@Mrsmifff because youre thinking in terms of consoles lol. Theyre the same engine. Ue3. Play a pc every once in a while just so you understand the tech.
Does that guy ever finish a cigarette?
Fools thinking this looks better than new games... put the drugs down. Within a few years we had:
Crysis 3 (2013)
Killzone Shadow Fall (2013)
Bioshock Infinite (2013)
Battlefield 4 (2013)
Alien Isolation (2014)
Last of Us Remastered (2014)
The Order 1886 (2015)
Rise of the Tomb Raider (2015)
Witcher 3 (2015)
Star Wars Battlefront (2015)
Batman Arkham Knight (2015)
Cyberpunk 2077 for all it's flaws looks amazing on Ultra Settings with RTX On.
Wow I just noticed! 2:28 The robot's head has "Samaritan" slapped on it!
10 years and 2 new engine iterations later and games still don't have this kind of graphical fidelity today
12 years later, almost no games holding such quality.
Batman: Arkham Knight from 2015
@@AdamChopinDev nope. It gets close, but not THAT CLOSE
This isn't that ground breaking anymore. This is actually more than do-able
This hasn't been ground-breaking since the 8th gen
Pretty much all games released in the last 6 years looked better than this. Do you have a brain bleed?
This has to be Unreal Engine 4 cause Unreal Engine 3 never looked this good on last gen consoles
Mortal Kombat X.
I remember this demo was running Unreal Engine 3 on multiple PCs at the time!
Re-Watching this in 2016 is very strange, because now this graphic looks contemporary and almost a bit old.
2017
2018
2077
2019 looks a bit dated but still better than 99% of games that came out since this demo was released
2020
Maybe everyone should realize this is a video from 2011. Obviously the graphics have been surpassed. Doesn't changed the fact that it still looks gorgeous.
Admiral Aladeen U wont find even on PC (and its sad because PC is capable to have game like this)
Admiral Aladeen No game looks like this on consoles. This is the absolute farthest that the Unreal Engine 3 could go. This was done on 3 GTX 580s.
You guys do realize that this video is all rendered and not actually calculated by a system in real-time, right? So you cannot actually compare this trailer to an actually running interactive videogame.
DiamondDead do you understand how a game engine tech-demo works?
Almost 13 years. This is still a masterpiece
Someone should make a pc game outta this...

+wow rood Good thing I'm too curious, still, to blame it on any thing or anyone, although I don't intend on finding reasons to. Lol I'd say the in-game engines have gotten a little better since I made this comment.
that moment when old demo looks the same as watchdogs3 and cyberpunk2077 which released 10 years later . old proverb always right . real games - show grades of 10 years old techno demos . so yes :) todays level of unreal 5 tech demos will be reached with 2032 hardware :) sad true of life

Lol no
When a bullet enters, the hole is only as big as the caliber of the bullet. When the bullet makes contact and passes through it "expands". Most bullets are made of softer metals and so it "mushroom/expands". This makes the energy of the bullet transfer into the target. The bullets expansion makes the exit hole a lot larger than the entry hole. A bullet may be nothing but pieces of metal after passing through an object.
2011 year and still looks awesome !!!!!!!!!!!!

2020 still waiting for this kind of graphics in games...
There have been video games with better graphics than this for years... Seems like you're confusing graphics power with artistic design, in this case Batman Arkham Knight has a very similar art style.
Now you can run this on a laptop as thick as 2 magazines at 4k 60fps in realtime.
Why does it look better than Unreal Engine 4 demo?
I agree
720p? Really, IGN? On another note though, a lot of people think this should be a game, I think this should be a movie or a 3D Animated series, it has the potential.
Something like this doesn't seem that hard to think up.
The 'leaked' MS E3 says that they will have a game based off of this demo. We will see how it plays out. This will be getting a lot of hits over the next couple of days.

Just came to see one of my favorite game demos ever and favorite Unreal Engine demos!
This is what next gen for consoles was supposed to look like. Instead we Got Killzone: Shadow Bloom and Dead Rising 3 frames per second.
dude, the new gen has just started, do you really think this isnt possible in 2-3 years? just wait till the first game in unreal engine 4 comes out..
jugglerkkev I dont know man. Just look at Perfect Dark Zero. Games didnt get any better looking on the 360 after that.
Norrec691 on the 360 lol, look at haze (launch ps3 game) and then at last of us, the diffrence is a whole generation big lol, and look at the dark sorcerer demo from quantic dream, to me, it looks very impressive
jugglerkkev The first UE4 game is out, and it's called Daylight. It blows. NEXT!
do you still belive this
Hm so it took about 4 years to actually achieve this level of detail in games, should we expect the same if the most recent Epic demo?
The only game that really looks like this is Batman: Arkham Knight
The year after they first showed this demo (using 3 GTX 580s) they managed to optimize it and had it running on a single GTX 680. It could probably run on a 660 but with lesser quality or fewer frames/resolution. During the demos i believe they were showing it at 1080p/30 fps
This tech demo aged better than the UE4 to be honest...
Agreed! It is dark and has neon lights and flares, which are much more pleasing and "ageless" in contrast to light and nature and, worse, fluids like lava. I guess they went too far in the UE4 tech demo hahahaha
@@lucasrafe0 not to mention the framerate...
@@rafaelbernal4888 sure! Makes it look like an animated short rather than a game. Edit: just realized that's exactly what it is hahahah
Where did the old lady disappear?
+tavi921 She demonstrates the new technique of Superiority Culling in UE4, which removes less awesome objects to save some rendering time.
+Siana Gearz its still UE3, but the other part seems pretty correct
Tyr Krustak
Oooh i was kidding about "superiority culling", but i did miss the fact that it's still UE3, so thanks for setting me straight. But i'm fairly certain that it's not the EU3 traditional renderer, but the deferred experimental DX11 one which eventually became the basis of UE4. Well apart from UE4 being a significant refactor and simplification of the whole framework.
This is based on an exclusive Xbox One Epic title. Yeesssss!
Epic Games were making a game based on this universe called Project Nano. .There was a lot of leaked concept art and even very very early gameplay videos back in 2013. .The guy in the video is named Owen or something. .You can still find his model in UE4 + Epic released a video a while back called Matinee Fight Scene. .where a bunch of guys were fighting in a subway and if you look closely the guys fighting are the same soldiers from the Samaritan demo. .I do hope Epic didn't cancel this game. .
Looks like infamous but more EPIC
7 years later, Epic's only hope is Fortnite.
And also Unreal Engine 4 used by dozens of games. Nice try kid.
look like unreal engine 4

After wacthing this, I am worried that I will never be able to play the games that are shown in the UE5 demo on PS5.
For some reason UE 3 demo looked better than UE4 DEMO
Man when this came out it looked like a CG cutscene, but now I got plenty of games that look this good if not better.
Most 2017 games looked better , but this demo has just amazing art and atmosphere , those Neon Lights with deph of field + Proper lightning and Bloom usage , nowadays engines have more power and prettier effects but they don't seem to use it properly.

Metal trenchcoat guy was jumping around to show off cloth physics, and the troopers were used for cinematics to name a few
True Cyberpunk 2077
Games still don't look like this
No game will look like this at the rate we're going, this engine is like freakin 7 years old and we still don't have anything remotely close resembling something like this, i blame the consoles, im not saying that they're bad, but damn if they're can barely play games at 720p much less half of em at 60 fps, i doubt we'll ever see this shit until like the next years, and i wouldn't be surprised even if we don't the amount of power they put in consoles is still very less compared to pc's.
Dan Strong Um this tech demo still looks better than Tomb Raider, Ryse is good, and Killzone is fantastic, I mean I play everything on my PC so i always try to compare, and yeah some games are starting to look as good as this, but still the fact that these new consoles are already outdated is still disappointing
Well 2015 came and we had a game that looks BETTER than this, it's called Batman Arkham Knight. It looks alot better on pc with the gameworks settings.
I'll take comments that aged poorly for 500
Anyone still here to see how Unreal Engine 3 incredible is it?

Console gamers are the reason we can't have nice things.
u fucking geek. blacklight retribution run at 1080p 60fps on ps4 using unreal engine 4
60fps when you're standing still. We heard the same thing about BF4 and Ghosts. We all know how that turned out. Quit being such a fanboy.
Nope. You are.
actually consoles are always going to have better things because there primary function is for gaming so ya duh they are going to get nicer things vs a PC which has so many functions it isn't even funny, so ya they will get nicer things. (p.s. I am a PC gamer)
Lt. Death What better things do Consoles have? Every new feature that you think you have since the original Xbox, was just copied off the PC. If anything, consoles try hard to be like PCs.
So, we learn that cyberpunk 2077 shoud be using old unreal 3 to look better.
Gaf Twitter brought me back here. I see consoles are getting close to this graphics levels on standard PS4. It's amazing how I see the flaws now than when Samaritan first released.
Cyberpunk 2011

Gawd damn Cyberpunk 2077 just looks better and better.
Im watching it now in 2019 and games are yet to look like this
They do though... pretty much. Look at the order 1886 on PS4 back in 2014

WOW! That's amazing!,i need a new pc for play that game
not really ! ahah
Something I forgot to mention is that while I believe this may have run on three gtx 580s which should total almost 3 teraflops 8 reality their real world performance would probably fluctuate between 2 and 2.5 teraflops compared to the PS4's 1.84 teraflops. And when you add the fact that the APIs on consoles, especially the PS4 run much closer to the metal than they do on PCs. Combine that with the fact that consoles are homogeneous and have much greater install bases and not only does the performance gap become mute but the possibility of such games become very likely. Celebrate, we waited 3 years but we're finally here. And on a $400.00 console to boot. Lol
And 5 years later, games still don't look this good
Games look far better if you ask me
This Is not demo .This Is trailer .Unreal engine 5 for playstation 5 Is player in real-time
