An absolutely loaded Whitbread Gold Cup....Superb renewal.
Bonanza Boy, West Tip & The Thinker all ran in that year`s Chelt Gold Cup, Grand National and Whitbread.
I wish the Whitbread company come back and rename this race again
3 Grand National and 2 Gold Cup winners! If Dessie hadn't fallen at Liverpool a couple weeks before he'd have probably run here too, Such a shame we never see grade 1 horses in these big handicaps anymore!
Three Grand National winners (West Tip, Mr Frisk, Seagram), a double second in the National (Durham Edition), a fourth in the National (Brown Windsor), two Gold Cup winners (The Thinker, Charter Party), a second in the Gold Cup (Yahoo), three horses fourth in a Gold Cup (West Tip again, Nupsala, Bonanza Boy). Bonanza Boy was also a dual Welsh National winner. Plus an Irish National winner (Perris Valley).
I appear to have a certain 7lb called Mr Norman Williamson.
what a great field of runners
@@tipster-challenge Surely was sir, up until the early 90s The Whitbread always carried a Momentous field. My favourite year 1973 when Charlie Poteen and the Formidable Ron Barry won ' the race that year was run at Newcastle as Sandown was having stand alterations. Kind regards Glynn n greetings from Stourbridge West Midlands UK 🤝
2 winners of the '90s The Grand National Mr. Frisk 1990 and Seagram 1991
I had an idiot on social media yesterday telling me racing wasn’t better back in the day before the 4 day circus aka the Cheltenham festival ruined national hunt racing. Races like this nowadays are are rare an honest politician.
A classy renewal featuring Mr Frisk, West Tip, Bonanza Boy, Seagram amongst others. Nupsala was a shock King George VI Chase winner at the expense of Desert Orchid in 1987.
Do you have the 1989 Bagshot Chase run at Ascot? Won by Headin On but Huntworth ran out when well clear and Sir Jest refused at the last when should have won at Huntworth's expense. Sam da Vinci who ran in the Whitbread was beaten in this race.
Wasn't broadcast live, but closing stages uploaded - ua-cam.com/video/P6Peptb6mlQ/v-deo.html
@@espmadrid thank you.
@@espmadrid Hello sir, This race was Broadcast live on the BBC in October and was always Ascot s first jump meeting .Also in those days it was a Wednesday meeting. Kind regards Glynn n greetings from Stourbridge West Midlands UK 🤝
@@andycook7244 Hi Andy, Read your write up with great interest. May I ask are you related to past ITV racing commentator Tony Cook or retired jockey John Cook who road Specify to win the 1971 National. Kind regards Glynn n greetings from Stourbridge West Midlands UK 🤝
@@glynnevans1851 It usually was, but this year the race was run at 2.00pm and BBC coverage only started at 2.15pm, therefore it wasn't broadcast live.
