  • This documentary is intended to provide information about the California State University at Channel Island's initial rationale for informing the Condors that they were to "...remove the Club's property (from the site)." Some weeks later a report by the University Fire Marshall was added to facilitate their initial intention; closing down the Condors Airpark and Pond Rats R/C Boat Pond. Both of these well known and nationally recognized recreation sites are and always have been independently funded Ventura County Recreation Facilities; they cost the Ventura County taxpayers absolutely nothing. Since the land was recently gifted to the University by Ventura County, the University's plans to close them in favor of some "thing" the University was unable to define but which they call "Passive Recreation," has been put into motion. Both the Condors' Airpark and the Pond Rats R/C Boat Pond, which are presently closed, have been successfully operated at those locations for over 25 years.
Our apology to Condors' President Bill Schatz. Somehow the "c" in his name got lost in his lower third. Sorry Mr. Bill. We'll catch that "c" in the next version.

Excellent video. Good luck with the negotiations with CSUCI. This was a really nice flying facility....

That really sucks! I miss flying there. I moved all the way out to DC and i havent seen an nicer field! It doesnt really take a lot of space. Its right on the border of the park and the farms. They have acres and acres of empty land to build more attractions or whatever they think is passive recreation. Im really looking forward on moving back to camarillo.

A present the University has granted the Condors a "Termination Agreement" which gives members permission to use the field only on specified days; 2 days per week. The specified days change for the convenience of the membership such as Friday, Saturday one week, then Saturday, Sunday the next week and so on. The Club provides a monthly calendar of "University approved days" for the membership. At present the Condor's membership has decreased from close to 300 prior to the University's action to less than 100 as I write this on 4/5/14. Ben Strasser

Have to say this is just one more reason why I would never live in CA. Can't stand the people who have taken over that fascist state. No such thing as freedom in CA any longer. :(
