TOP 5 REASONS To Ride A Cruiser Motorcycle

- Here are my top 5 reasons to why you should ride a cruiser motorcycle. I ride a Triumph Bonneville Speedmaster, a modern retro styled cruiser, with a 1200cc engine.
Cruisers have been around for many years and are a popular category in the motorcycle industry. From big Harley Davidson American style cruisers to more classic styled British cruisers, there are different types and styles to cruiser motorcycles.
There is a certain charm to riding a cruiser motorcycle that must be experienced. Stay cool, sit back, relax and just cruise!

The thing I like is that you don't have to go fast to have fun!
True. The engine hints to the rider what it wants to do. An engine that can rev to 10K-rpm... won't sound or feel quite right just cruising along at low revs. And to accelerate it has to be revved hard. Smooth lazy grunt will be just as enjoyable in a different way.
This is very true 👍 A really good and important point! They are fun at slow speeds, sometimes even more fun. Cheers
Spot on....👏
No matter what cruiser you ride, it's all about smiles per miles.
Had in the past sports bikes but now am very happy with my Hd Rks for cruising, and Xr1200 for the local twisties.
Best of both worlds 😎🍻
Safe rides...🏁🇬🇧
👍 Absolutely, they are just so good for that. Love the HD RK's and would love to do a test ride on one sometime. Performance bike and a cruiser, perfect 😎
Cheers and same to you, enjoy
I agree.from my harley davidson roadster.
greetings from Spain
🙌 ride on
Well done Sir... I am a life long biker, riding over 45 years...and you nailed it...perfectly!
👍 Thanks so much Mark I appreciate it. Just love cruisers and all they have to offer! Cheers
Beautiful bike, beautiful places you get to ride through! I feel the stress leaving me just watching 👍!
Thanks Brian I appreciate it. Yes I am lucky to have some great roads near me 👍
Your video made me smile! Heading into the verdant hills tomorrow on my 1600 Vulcan. Keep up the good work and the smiles!
That is great to hear, thanks so much really glad you enjoyed the video 👍 Have a great trip 😎
Another great video. You mentioned the exact same 5 reasons why I bought my 2020 Speedmaster.
👍 Thanks so much. They must be great reasons then! Cruisers are just such loveable and characterful bikes. Cheers
Absolutely Angus.. you put your Soul into the bike.. Soul being the key word.
Nice video!
Cheers Angus
🙌 Exactly, there are few other bikes that have such a connection to ones soul.
They tug at the heart strings!
Cheers
@@redangrevival They do indeed.. where would we be without our passions.. what a boring life it would be..
Ride on Angus ☺
I live in Daytona Beach and hurricane Ian totaled my HD Roadking. I’m on the road for business right now but I’ve put money down on a Triumph bonneville speedmaster and should be home in a week or so to pick it up. I’ve never owned a Triumph and looking forward for it. And it’s half the price of a Harley and to me it’s a better looking bike.
So sorry to hear that! What a horrible thing to have happen. I suppose to try and look on the bright side at least now you can experience owning a Triumph 👍 I think because of it's smaller dimensions it adds to the looks. Hope you really enjoy it. Cheers
Options! My 2022 Speedy GLE can be turned into a touring bike in a few minutes, or stripped back down to a Bobber. Plus, they are often more nimble than a touring bike, and much more comfortable than a sport/adventure bike. We’ll done Angus!
👍 A great point, the Speedmaster really is so versatile! Cheers
You have that Speedy beautifully set up Angus. And that's one of the reasons to own one...they respond well to a bit of attention.
Thanks I appreciate it 👍 I am really pleased with the mods so far, cannot think of much else I want to add atm! Cheers
Great video buddy 👍
Thanks 👍
Really nice video, well done, sir 👏👏👏. You deserve more subs, I subbed. 💪👍
Hi, many thanks I appreciate it and glad you enjoyed the video. Welcome to the channel 👍
Agree with most reasons but not the comfort element. With no ability to support part of your weight through your feet, cruisers can be brutal on your lower back and some have an awkward reach to the bars.
I do see what you mean, I suppose if you get the right seat with correct support then this can help a lot. Or even spec mid foot controls, but I take your point 👍
Yup!!!! You said it all!!
🤟
My Opinion
1. 1. Weight, I like the planted feeling a heavier bike provides.
2. Handling, Im not looking for super sharp turns, I set up my turns early and float through them!
3. Price, at this stage in my life I just purchase what I really want. No guarantee tomorrow I will have the opportunity I have today
4. BHP, I love cruiser torque, provides plenty of pull, all I need, and I stay out of trouble for the most part
5. Maintenance, you’re right ! This is a challenge, can take a lot of time.
Everyone should strive to have a cruiser as a alternate for the days you’ve not interested in burning up the road ! Great video, excellent scenery on this one ! 👍
👍 Thanks Brian, and I agree with all your points. Absolutely I think everyone should experience a cruiser at least once in their life. It teaches one to appreciate the engineering and simplicity of riding a beautiful machine!
Cheers
@@redangrevival I just realized I posted this comment to the wrong video ! I was commenting on the 5 reasons not to ride a cruiser ! It’s been a long week, not riding as much since the weather has been below freezing
@@Brian-tb1zs Haha all good I realised!! Yup such terrible weather this week, lets hope it drys up soon 👍
Just bought myself a Triumph T-Bird 1600, getting it delivered tomorrow…..I’m like a kid at Christmas! You outlined the reasons perfectly. I’ve done the sport bike, naked hooligan and sport tourer and decided to go for something a little more me….
Massive congratulations and good for you for choosing something you really like 👍 I honestly have always liked the look of the big Thunderbird 😎 Awesome bike, enjoy
@@redangrevival sat here looking at her earlier not quite believing she’s actually mine! The TOR short pipes have been de-catted so it sounds like a bloody machine gun on the overrun……Autosol time tomorrow!
@@JP-yc1wp Haha awesome 😎 Bet it sounds crazy good! Enjoy it
All good points. I would and a 6th, weight, it cam be an advatage as well as a negative by keeping you planted on faster roads, especially on windy days.
Thanks 👍 Yes there definitely some benefits to a heavier bike, but personally I think the benefits of lighter out way heavier.
My number one reason is simply cruising. You are not that fast, i'm thankful my footpegs are scraping that soon, keeps the pace down. Im riding a bonneville bobber with speedmasters forward controls and mini ape. Long term my previous bike would have killed me.
Thank you for the videos, keep up the good work.
👍 The overall best reason really, just cruising! Nice set up you have on your Bobber, very cool. Thanks I will do and really pleased you enjoy them.
You’re really passionate about your bike, I like that!😊👍🏻
I had a cruiser in the early 90’s, a Suzuki Intruder 1400, talk about torque & sound! But I couldn’t get over the limited lean angle so it had to go again. I’m 53 now and I’m still not quite there yet but I loved the looks of the HD Heritage Classic since I was child… maybe someday… after my commuting days are over.
Cheers Angus!
Thanks! I do love her 😁 Same I have always loved the look of the Heritage Classic since I was a kid, such a "Classic" looking cruiser with everything you need. Perhaps not the ideal commuting bike haha! Cheers and all the best
I agree, nothing beats a good long ride on a cruiser. I two up on my Speedmaster fairly regular now, and its good for short trips. I've found even with the rear suspension dial up it will occasionally bottom out. Told the misses that when she decides to ride with me on long tours I will start shopping for one of the BMW retros cruisers to add to my stable. She refuses to ride on my Interceptor lol
👍 Just something so cool and relaxing about it! Great choice to take a look at the BMW R18 perhaps, stunning bike. Haha don't blame her with the Interceptor! Cheers
riding rock3 cruiser .absolute agree all
🤙
honestly never been the biggest fan of cruisers, but i do appreciate them
Completely fair enough, we cannot like all the same things! Great that you can appreciate their beauty 👍
Agreed, I had a Triumph America for three years and when I let it go, my cruiser days seemed to be over, but now I wish I'd kept it !
👍 I do get the odd thought of getting something else but just feel like I would really regret it and miss the cruiser vibe! They have such a unique character to them 👍
Superb looking machine good sir 👌
Stay shiny side up & enjoy life
👍 Thanks so much I appreciate it.
Same to you and all the best
I like cruisers but after riding my Tenere 700 for a while I really like the high seat position. It’s like the truck of motorcycles but incredibly nimble. It’s not fast and it’s not super torquey but it is really zippy and easy to turn…..bonus u never have to worry about potholes which is often here in Chicago.
I do agree with you. I used to own an Africa Twin and just loved the high riding position and comfortable/bomb proof ride!
Torque, torque and torque!!!!
🤟
Totally agree.
🤙
# 6 : Their timeless!
🙌
I have a shadow 750 with a top case saddlebags and windshield, highway pegs. Honda factory flames on the tank. She's a good old girl, but my 250 Honda scooters are more practical. Helix and reflex , and quieter for early morning getaways. I've been a Honda man for 50 years. And plan to ride until, you know. Especially now hurricane Ian destroyed my cars. Yikes 😬
👍 Sounds like a nice bike you have there. Yup cruisers are definitely not always the most practical bikes!! But as you do you can always have a second bike for practical reasons. Cheers
The big thing that puts me off cruisers is the comfort angle. Feet-forward puts the weight on your lower back. They are also generally too heavy. I agree with the torque argument, although you get that with any big twin. One of my bike is a Yamaha MT-01. 110 ft/lb at 3.750 rpm. It weighs 265 kg which, actually, I don't find a problem.
Yes the forward foot controls don't suit everyone, you can often move them to mid controls to help with that. Also a good supportive seat helps a lot! I know you can get even more torque in other bikes, but there is just something about the way a cruiser delivers it! Lazy but powerful. Cheers
Lack of lean angle in corners is something to watch out for on cruisers.
👍 100% a concern! I scratch the pegs often on my Speedmaster
My reasons,
Seat height - looooowww
Forward pegs and higher controls - easy peasy
Sounds grrrreat!
Looks badass!
Pulls like a cart horse
Only negative, get bars to suit yourself, as they are great lumps to manhandle round tight corners.
Could ride up and down doing gentle curves all day 😊
haha looowwww!! That is a good reason.
All great reasons, and yup they certainly have a unique power delivery. Yes the handling is definitely a negative, however the Speedmaster is one of the best handling cruisers out there. In my opinion!
Cheers
Specially now you have the riser to make the bars perfect for you. ☺️
My favourites are cruisers and adv bikes. I want one of each oh and a retro style or classic...
My only niggle re some cruisers is tank range. The Meteor my current favourite. (Of course the Triumphs are the winners as it stands). Yours hands down the nicest and prob the right spot re power etc.
P.s Am leaning towards a more work horse first bike like the Himi/Scram.
👍 I am the same as well, love cruiser and ADV bikes the best! Yes that is a good point with some cruisers the tank range is small which can be annoying.
The Speedmaster is a great balance of size and power etc...
Think either the Himi or Scram would be great first bikes.
@@redangrevival Yeah I think your Bike is one for the future. I just want something to tour on that doesnt look like an ugly duckling🦆
(Basically something that handles like my 125 and has a 300 ish mile range and wont struggle up hills).
@@MauriceTarantulas Definitely won't get 300 miles out of the Speedmaster on one tank haha! The Royal Enfields are great on fuel
@@redangrevival Got to Wales from Windsor and still had 50 miles left in the tank!!!..(gotta love a frugal 125. Still got it no buyers yet).
After riding plenty of motorcycles over the years, my last , a BMW R1250 GS, I decided to go retro and dispense with all of the Teck stuff, I now ride a 2016 Triumph Speedmaster, had the seat reworked to suit my bottom and one or two additions, love riding this machine but by one issue is with the forward controls, brake is ok but the gear-lever and gear changing just has not fallen into place, maybe I should look to change to mid controls? Any suggestions very welcome? Ride safe
Great to hear that you are enjoying your Speedmaster 👍 Sometimes refreshing to have less tech. Yes recommend mid foot controls or even the floorboards that Triumph do as an accessory may help. Thanks and same to you
I can see you've removed the pillion seat and fitted the side finishers but not the mudguard finisher,so what did use to cover the captive nuts?
I have literally just taken off the pillion seat and added nothing extra on the rear. Have not covered any nuts!
Love cruisers I had a Kawasaki in the past. Great video. I wanted to ask you and I keep forgetting, what in your opinion is the best motorcycle you’ve ever ridden. I know they all have there own feel but curios what you liked the most.
Thanks Scott, glad you enjoyed the video 👍 This is going to sound very boring but I really enjoyed riding the BMW GS! Just love the adventure feel it gives and also feels bomb proof! I really like adventure bikes 😁
That bike has a following unlike anything I’ve ever seen. Even the Italians like them, and they build really cool stuff. I’ve never been crazy about the way the look but I know they are very capable!
I don't think I could get used to My feet being in front of me, for safety I want to be able to stand up on my pegs If I have to go over an object in the road that I couldn't avoid.
But I do agree cruisers are beautiful bikes.
Yes fair enough I understand that point for sure! You can option mid controls on a lot of cruisers as well. At least you can enjoy the beauty of them 👍 Cheers
@@redangrevival Indian Springfield gray / maroon is my favorite, maybe someday I will get one. But i have Two Triumphs already, Tiger 1200 & Street triple. Can't afford a third bike yet.
@@markkulyas2418 👍 Love the Maroon colour as well! You have a great stable there, if you fancy something with more of a retro vibe, then the Speedmaster is a great option. Cheers
Ride long enough and we will all end up on one. 😎
🤘
Cruisers are the worst bike you can buy and ride, so plain so boring dont buy one you wont be happy. Been around bikes my whole life would never ride a cruiser. SJ
haha each to their own opinion I suppose!! There are many many people that disagree with you. But I respect your strong views 💪
Keep Torquing, you’ve almost sold me. 🦘💨💨💨
😂 👍
