Ah the Tri-Jaw... Whenever you not look at them or unaware you dodge all the shots but as soon as looking at them and trying your hardest it will hit you every time.
I prefer the pickaxe method. Where you run up to a trijaw and try to pick-axe it to death before it shoots, fail, and take all three projectiles at once.
Indeed, I love that about DRG, all the sounds and other clues that can telegraph you state of enemies and caves, like sounds of presence of Bet-C, special attack sounds, different sound of Glyphids, extra charging animations and so on, you can tell lot of what is happening with closed eyes if you know what to look for, impressive stuff.
i'd already figured out how to dodge tri-jaws semi consistently, realizing that the tri-jaw is designed to take advantage of the conditioning normal macteras do to you is really cool game design, glad you pointed that out to me.
Often-times there's too many enemies and too much action involved to do this but sometimes this tactic is helpful thank you for the observation and the advice
I wish Trijaws' charging sound was more distinct from those of regular mactera, if there is any difference at all it's really hard to notice. Mactera brundles got a more unique sound but their projectiles behave the same as spawns'. It would be really helpful to tell instantly by sound that a Trijaw was behind you. Other than that I actually kinda like how dangerous trijaws can be despite how little health they have.
Also if Trijaws come with other bugs in a wave, their distinct sound will just mix with each other's, so it's more difficult to judge the timing to do such dodge.
trijaws' windup sound is different; it's "fragmented". regular mactera sound like they're constantly sucking in air before they shoot. trijaws sound like that too, except they're doing it in short bursts.
Another tactic which is a bit harder to do (and not viable in every scenario like this one in the video) is to jump right before they fire. This throws their aim too high and the projectiles safely pass over your head.
Generally speaking it's a good idea to drop a sheild when mactera suddenly spawn, ecspecially trijaws. Also as gunner they aren't as scary since their spit does Explosive damage.
I assumed that each shot of the trijaw tracked where you're heading before firing. Knowing that this is not the case, and that their shots are always in a set pattern, this'll make dodging them a lot easier. Thanks for the vid.
Iv always call tri - jaws "3d primal avisp" cuz they are vey similar to that hollow knight enemy They fly They have a glowing sack They shot three bullets that are almost guarented to hit you And they are anoying has fuck
I was always just strafing to the right and hoping for the best. Today I tried this trick multiple times. Didn’t get hit even once. Feeling like a pro juke dwarf now.
Nice! I have started noticing recently that strafing in one direction always gets you hit with tri-jaws, but I hadn't found a replacement dodging strategy, until now. I think I'll keep up my habit of killing the buggers before they get a shot off, though. Just in case.
Thanks! This video helps with one of the more annoying buggers in the caves. I’d love to see a video on how exactly the bugs all deal damage to each other. I’ll be downed when a praetorian just starts spewing on nearby grunts on my body, eventually killing them off.
I didn't know that tri jaw even shot stuff at you bc the first and only time I've seen one was on haz 1 (I am new) and killed it before it did anything
@@tadferd4340 I'm glad I followed this but I tried a haz 3 escort duty and got destroyed in like a minute so then went to haz 2 and was able to complete it and now I have my first promotion! Rock and Stone! (I've also tried multiplayer and am having lots of fun)
I dont think many people notice but the normal dreadnoughts have shot tracking which can lead to them shooting the fireballs behind them as it tries to hit you.
I remember figuring out this little trick last week after developing a healthy amount of trijaw paranoia. Personally I wish trijaws and brundles made different sounds when charging so the fear of god isnt put into me when ever I hear mactera behind me. just more bug noises in general would be nice like bulks being more loud and stompy.
For me the silence of Bulks is a part of the appeal. You have to be paying attention to bug sounds as-is to catch them because they're so quiet, but their noises are unique and distinct regardless. A giant exploding killer like a Bulk being shockingly quiet is delightfully devilish- they punish you most when you're not thinking about them.
@@g--stef4756 I kinda agree but being able to identify bugs on sound is important and a pitched down Preatorian gurgle that's hardly audible during gameplay doesn't do the Bulk justice imo. I get wanting it be be this sneaky killer that you need to keep track of but in reality it just spawns behind you while you were busy and basically died because of how quite he is. I like the idea of an assassin bug that's actually sneaky but cave leeches and Menaces kinda fill that role. Honestly I'd settle for a unique spawn noise for Bulks like Menaces do.
This.. It's like Major Ed Ryan in Babylon 5 Severed Dreams. "Take us in closer to the enemy.".. "How close?".. "Right down their throats!" Backpedalling means you don't see what is behind and you end up still taking a hit or splash. Moving in you see where you are going and the shots tend to go over your head for no damage.
Never had a problem with trijaws but just wanted to point out that your tip about audio cue when trijaw shoots is pretty irrelevant. Yeah good luck with that, while there are 100 other mobs screamming, other people shooting and throwing nades, music blasting etc. I can't even hear a fucking regular exploder creeping up on me when there's nothing going on in terms of sounds
Backpedaling (if you can/have room/its safe to do so) gives you much more room between the projectiles. From my experience it makes it much easier to focus on other things while still being able to effectively dodge
Just walk towards them and they miss everything. You can also sidestep but you have to go either side, dodge the middle shot and go back to the middle. Pretty basic stuff really
I dont get is why you are telling people to move back in a U shape, couldnt you have just said to strafe right just a tad instead of continuing to move? its the same dodge as a normal mactera since there isnt a reason to continue your movement with the normal ones in the first place, and realistically if you did want to continue to move you can just move diagonally back right instead which is safer to do on higher haz levels
Ah the Tri-Jaw... Whenever you not look at them or unaware you dodge all the shots but as soon as looking at them and trying your hardest it will hit you every time.
My tri-jaws are shy and only attack when i have my back turned, and everytime i dont know what the hell hit me
I prefer the pickaxe method. Where you run up to a trijaw and try to pick-axe it to death before it shoots, fail, and take all three projectiles at once.
The "no look" dodge was freaking S tier.
Don’t forget that tri-jaws attacks are also explosive and have an AoE
Damn, forgot to add a section mentioning that as the reason for the forward movement rather than just moving slightly left or right
When a group of 4+ trijaws on haz 5 start charging up:
_Time to show management that dancing in the space rig should be considered a business expense_
The fact that you can dodge a tri-jaw without even looking is a testament to the game's audio design

They do have a different noise, I'm not in game so I cant quite describe it, but it isnt very noticeable
I agree 100% and goo bombers sometimes have no audio que till they are goo bombing you

Damn that hard to put it in use during waves or even multiple trijaws, when I play gunner I just don't trust my self and quickly drop a shield
Generally speaking it's a good idea to drop a sheild when mactera suddenly spawn, ecspecially trijaws. Also as gunner they aren't as scary since their spit does Explosive damage.
Agreed, id much rather me or my teammate "waste" a shield as a preventative measure even if we do manage to kill em in time.

Could you do a video on ledge tech? I’d love to learn how to perform it more consistently.
I don't think a video for that is nessecary. You just need some good ol' trial and error.
Ah Tri-Jaw, they in come in a package of 5 to 7 wrapped with ambush...

So concise. Short, but sweet. Great content.

Lmao, you just invented a slur for the drg bugs
right strafe > forward > left strafe
move in a counter-clockwise circle to dodge tri-jaws
Thank you so much this saved an entire mission for me
Thank you very much for the video! Explains why I get annihilated by them on higher hazards 😅
Dude, thank you. I hate these stupid things and this totally changes things now.
I didn't know that tri jaw even shot stuff at you bc the first and only time I've seen one was on haz 1 (I am new) and killed it before it did anything
Even while new, I'd suggest playing at least at Haz3. Haz2 and Haz1 will teach bad habits. Haz3 is better for learning and will feature all enemies.
Progress at your own pace! When Haz1 feels too easy, go to Haz2, etc :) it’s fun to learn the game at all the different haz levels
@@tadferd4340 I'm glad I followed this but I tried a haz 3 escort duty and got destroyed in like a minute so then went to haz 2 and was able to complete it and now I have my first promotion! Rock and Stone! (I've also tried multiplayer and am having lots of fun)
I never have this problem because they cant shoot you if theyre dead
Also make sure you bring something that can oneshot or stun a lot of mactera when you go into a mactera plague mission.
Now, imagine elite mactera plague. It becomes some ikaruga shit at that point.
this is what I came up with too, after getting tired of getting hit every time xD, great vid
Dodging looking away was epic
This video's going to hurt I can tell.
My nightmares of primal Aspids have come back to haunt me…

Ok, now time to master this technique while I'm being shot at by 6 other tri jaws and lunged at by 2 slashers on Haz 5, we have fun down on Hoxxes
Honestly I do exactly what you say but I'm so bad I end up getting hit by two
I solve the tri-jaw problem by simply killing it first.
Good to know, I hadn't yet realized that they fire in a consistant pattern like that!
Tri Jaws, truly the primal aspids of DRG
Thank you so much for this.
great video, time to forget all this and move straight right
I'm getting primal aspid vibes here. Edit: Just saw the thumbnail lol.
Could you do a video on how to execute various techs? Things like the deposit tech but also any others that people might not be aware of.
This video
Is 3 minuites
And 33 seconds
No way this is an accident
Doge ? i just take the hit like every Engineer Chad and SD them to cinder
Love that boneworks music in the background.
tri-jaws are infinitely less anoying than leeches. i have a knack for them finding me before i find them 99% of the time
I dont think many people notice but the normal dreadnoughts have shot tracking which can lead to them shooting the fireballs behind them as it tries to hit you.
they are the primal acids from hollow knight
Good video! Great blind dodging made me laugh!
This is going to be required training by management, soon.
Rush them get right beneath them they can't shoot you...or you know...cryo grenade
The trick is when there are like half a dozen of them on you. Then you just duck and cover ;o)

On one hand -it's a very solid advice.
On the other - this ain't a dwarven advice. If yer getting hit by mactera, it means you gotta hit it HARDER
Thank you. How to avoid the rolling enemies AoE ranged attacks?
You dont. Just ragequit because trashbacks suck
Mactera trijaws, the primal asphid of DRG...

Great Guide! Give us more pls.
The important question here is.... how long did it took you, to film an single elite tri jar on Harzard 5? :D
There are these little things called "mods"
is that background song from boneworks? just wondering
If I don't have time to take down a tri-jaw before it spits, I run towards it. It's never hit me with that strategy.
This.. It's like Major Ed Ryan in Babylon 5 Severed Dreams. "Take us in closer to the enemy.".. "How close?".. "Right down their throats!" As someone who runs stun focus shot on m1k's tier 5 mod, I can confidently say that trip jaws are almost 100% a non issue for me.
Why would you run stun if you can just oneshot trijaw with m1k?
👍
Just walk towards them and they miss everything. You can also sidestep but you have to go either side, dodge the middle shot and go back to the middle. Pretty basic stuff really
