  • In this video I demonstrate 7 short licks that will teach you some of the rudimentary movements of midwest emo. For example, some of the licks will isolate key techniques like pull-offs into open notes, slides, and hammer-on's. Also, key rhythmic concepts are demonstrated as well. Notably, the classic 16th note flow. If you want to see more lick ideas, be sure to check out my Patreon page as I have a few more ideas notated there.

@@samuelllakaj5439 dunno man there are some excellent bands and musicians that only played like 3 months strictly or had 1 straight project and then quit because the guys have his personal life, family or jobs, I saw a few of them and they voluntary didnt wanted to play anymore because of things I mentioned before, well personal decisions, is up to them but I saw great projects and so much talent they shoulda keep going but at the same time was a great experience

Could you do a video on slow core? Like duster type chords and progressions 🤖

Do you have a video on distorted chords that would go with riffs like this?

    I may be wrong but I think lick 2 tab isn't correct: I'm hearing a 5-4-0 pull off on the D string so it would be (G) 5-4-0 (D) 7-0 and (D) 5-4-0 (G) 7-0

So if you can write riffs that sound the same as riffs in different tunings, what are the main benefits of alternate tunings?
I understand an open tuning leaves a baseline of whatever chord you tune for, and it can "challenge you to play different", but it just seems more hassle to me.
I got to relearn what scale shapes, chord shapes, etc I can use, but I can still write twinkly riffs in standard.
I know sometimes a riff can be 'easier to play' in particular tunings, but still - someone break this down in laymans terms.

One of the main benefit of alternate tunings is string ringing out. basically open notes while playing makes it more grand ya know

I don't understand the time signature in lick 7: in the notation it appears that all the notes take equal times (except G), but in the demonstration the last 4 seem slower?

  • @Aerydna

the transcription of lick 2 is wrong i think. it's missing a pull of note from 4 to 0 in the 3th cord
