Ep 81. Front Portico columns

Today we complete the front columns that will one day support the front portico roof. We decided to wrap the columns in the Tando Beach House shake to match the house and cap off the top with natural stone. Enjoy!

Awesome video, we’re looking to add a portico to our house and this has given me ideas. Question ; why not add rebar to the slab holding the columns for extra support ?

Thank you! Definitely you can. I embedded a layer of wire mesh that I had left over from when we poured the slab and also used rebar in the hole in the center beneath the wire mesh. The center will carry the load and the perimeter was never going to be load bearing. If I stoned the entire column (like ep 82 Driveway columns), I would have used more rebar in the slab part. Also, don’t do a dry pour slab. I didn’t like it at all. Really glad you enjoyed it. Thx for watching!
