    Are they planning on anything for replacement keys too? Those seem to go yellow far more than the actual cases for me.

    Great, i'm an Amiga fan, from Italy, from its origins, i owned an Amiga 1000 and an Amiga 3000 in the late 80' and first 90' ... i remember the first time i've seen the A1000 color monitor, running The Pawn ... FANTASTIC !!!
    In actual days, nothing can give the same sensations (i hope you understand what i mean) ...
    Thanks for these videos, man !!!

      I've got one of the original Amiga 1000's too back in '86 with the KickStart on a disk, then later on I had a KickStart ROM installed inside. Those were some unforgettable times of my youth, there was nothing like it at the time, not even close (short of $100,000usd SGI stations)! :)

    I remember when my dad brought home an Amiga 1000 in the late 80's... @ 5 or 6 years old it blew my mind! I refused to accept any other computer was superior up until 1997 or so? I was jealous of all the Brits who actually had Amiga shops they could go to! Shame Commodore didn't know how to market it!

    Dan, the DVI output breakout you have is supposed to replace the RF output - those two holes on it match those on the motherboard holding the RF "box". So... get that RF soldered out already :)

    So much love for the A1200. I’m one of the lucky ones mines still white after all these years. Would love to see them do the keyboard cases for the big box Amigas. I think both the 600 and 500 need love too.

    Great video as always Dan. Very thorough review. Lots of great points and you are awesome on camera and on The Retro Hour. It is very difficult to do this stuff and even more difficult to do it as well as you do. I backed the keycaps kickstarter and will get the CD32 case (aka "The Paul Kitching Special") to go with the key caps. I really hope they come up with a solution to make a new keyboard available that can attach to a Raspberry Pi through a Keyrah or direct to USB. I love my 1200 the way it is and don't want to dismantle it because it is in perfect condition, but the idea of having the new case with a Raspberry Pi in it would be a dream. That would be my favorite Amiga emulation setup. If a keyboad like that ever becomes a possibility I will back that instantly. AMIGA4EVER! -- "Amiga" Bill

      haha - not sure about the "Paul Kitching Special", Bill. lol. but I do really love the CD32 themed A1200.net case, it actually took me almost a week of tinkering to get the colour and texture looking "ok" so hopefully, it's quite close now. I think it's one of my favourite versions, actually. hmmm... I have a few others too tho :)

    The two screws in the back of the original amiga case only held the disk drive in place, the rear of the case was held only by the clips that you mention. The original case used two long screws for each side of the case and three small screws at the front, no screws held the case together at the back.With regards to the indivision, maybe use washers and longer bolts (things each side of port) to hold it to the backplate? just an idea, I'll check it out when I get my cases. ;)

    Dan what price are we looking at for one of these cases in UK Pounds ? I've noticed the c64 is getting some case attention just lately on ebay.
    I tell you what would be REALLY good is if they made some new cases for the A600 and solved the problem with those small tabs that break once you open the case? A new A600 case is very much needed here.Fingers crossed they might be in the pipeline?

      Instead of one big custom FPGA machine like the minimig, Ive often wondered how cool it would be if someone could make FPGA individual custom chips for various model Amigas and in the different IC packages DIP, QFP etc. Then a reproduction Amiga motherboard would be less difficult to make and reproduction more similar to the original hardware configuration.

      Thanks to your quick reply I was able to secure 2 sets of keys =D I didn't know the key campaign had launched (and ends in a few days). I passed on the case campaign as my case (and keys) look good as new - but apparently the keys can fit many 500+ / 600 as well - which is really nice! Just a question as to whether the 500+ / 600 has the right plunger heads on it. EDIT: Just checked one of my 500+ and the keys do have the right plunger heads =D

    Initial thoughts: Cool. Love the blue one the best. The black does not look very good for some reason. Now, what would be really cool is to have LED lights where the Amiga logo is and with the clear case go nuts with the case mode and put LED lights in there. A red or even a rainbow Amiga logo case would have been a good choice as well.

    Something I've never been sure of about the bromine discolouration. Is it just that, a yellowing of the plastics? Or is there a degradation going on as well? Some plastics become brittle and crumbly on the surface from UV exposure. Does Retr0bright save old computer cases from that?

    • @AtariBorn
      @AtariBorn 7 років тому

      predcon1 From what I've heard, when the plastic is discolored bad enough that is become brittle, it's because the mixture was faulty, having too much of the fire retardant. This actually makes sense to me because all of the brittle plastics I've seen are very discolored.

    Hi folks, I'm an indie game developer and I'm looking for a computer system with OpenGL support BUT NOT based on x86, x64 or ARM for testing purposes.
    My initial idea was to buy an old PowerPC CPU based MAC because they support OpenGL. Then I remembered the Amiga was still alive in some fashion. Is there a modern take on the Amiga with shader based OpenGL graphics and a 68XXX CPU variant?

    • @ssl3546
      @ssl3546 6 років тому

      Sounds like you want to test on a big endian machine, eh? A PowerPC Mac is one option. The Ubiquiti Edgerouter Lite can take Linux but does not have a display - you might be able to run X over a network or at least stub out the graphics calls. If you can find an old SparcStation or SGI machine that will of course support OpenGL but the version supported will be ancient. There are some Allwinner boards that support NetBSD in big endian mode but this is very much not a mainstream option.
      Note: I do not read replies to any messages I post on UA-cam.

      You could add brass screw inserts for the DVI. Either glue regular ones, or use the ones which screw in themselves (you can salvage them from laptops and regular computer cases, respectively). May need to sand them to be shorter, tho.

      Thanks for the response, I wasn't moaning about it, I'm happy that the signatures are there, all the team have done a fantastic job bringing us all these new cases, I know that you can't keep everyone happy.I just would have preferred them underneath personally, as it would be nice to see them from time to time, with the 1000 you just had to remove the top of the case if I'm not mistaken, where as in the 1200 you need to remove the motherboard too, removing the keyboard and disk drive are easy enough, just some of the accelerator cards can be a bit tricky to remove and put back.

    looked into this case, none of the local resellers have it listed, never mind in-stock, look up this new amiga board... supposed to be out in 2017, half way through 2018 is it out? anyway details point at it costing €350 and requiring accelerator card (€130) to function.
    then I had a thought! oh, amiga still has a ball mouse! but the amigans got you covered, basic looking laser mouse and its only €50, brings back memories of amiga upgrades being way more expensive than my friends PC ones, think I will stick to my €40 raspberry pi running an emulator! (but still wouldn't mind one of those cases for it!)

    Looking forward to my black case with CD32 keycaps. Feels a bit more Amiga I think. Now do I emulate and leave my mint white A1200 030 or transplant. Hmm

    That's nice! Just ordered a pristine white one for an Amiga 1200 I was given last week. Yellow is not the word. It looks horrible..

    Great video Dan, will be supporting them on Kickstarter. One thing I am struggling to find also is a replacement LED for power, fdd and hdd as mine broke ages ago. If anyone knows where I can get this it would be appreciated!

    This is cool and having more than one color is a nice touch.
    But I think nothing beats the original color.
    I wish the Amiga could return. I miss my miggy.

      also I never saw the transparent case on their website at all! is this going to be a special edition or something?

    • @A1200NET
      @A1200NET 7 років тому

      Ryan,
      Translucent case is a "regular" color in our chart. So it's not a Special Edition.
      As for availability have a look at our FAQ section on the website ;)
