Its how i learned multiplication when i was 6 based off one unexplained example, simply "10×2=20", or a more recent example when I had a problem on a test about limits and i had figured out Lopital's rule on my own without ever being taught it, hinted about it, or even told of its existence. Thinking through it in my mind, a possible way to find such a limit, is far more valuable than memorizing. Memorization

A better trick. Substitute increasing values of x-coordinate into the equation to find the y-coordinate values. Then just plots the points and draw the sketch of the graph. This works with all graphs.
Like I said, school is designed to select for obedience and performance, not intelligence. Calculus is NOT difficult, but people that don't learn and understand it will find it difficult to memorize enough to pass tests
Exactly. Simply memorising formulas and what graphs look like wont help you when you need to apply your mathematics skills for more advanced problems. Most "difficult" problems are actually just considered difficult because you need a deeper understanding of the math surrounding the problem instead of just memorising stuff.

You can always plot numbers and see how the line looks. Infact that’s how you should start. Overtime, as your exposure to graphs increases, you will naturally be able to recognize and draw these graphs
