I think one of the best ways to really get to know a city is by walking, and I love that.
Walking down the foremost landmarks of their cities is totally possible in Europe.
This is a 26km walking route for Paris, and I suppose you can do it in two days.
Of course, if you want to stay longer in each place, it can take you more days, but it is up to you. Only depends on your wishes and your possibilities.
