"can't culture" is great, love that term. Your take is similar to what I say about failure: Everyone (and I mean EVERYONE) fails till they don't.
Dan has failed at things till he didn't, and he's learned and become better about it since. I expect that same trajectory.
If there's 5 tiers, Oregon is in tier 1, Washington and USC are in tier 2 and Ucla is tier 5. Overall the new teams will be competitive immediately. The supposed leap in competition from the Pac12 to the Big10 is a myth.
I don't see Washington in tier 2 this year. Maybe next year. Maybe.
@@TheRealDonLayton That's fair. I guess I'm looking at the level of competition once you get below the top teams. Let's assume, for the sake of argument, that most people think of OSU, Mich, Oregon, Penn State and Iowa as the strongest teams in the conference. So now we're judging Washington (and USC) against teams like Maryland, Nebraska or Wisconsin. I think they look reasonable there.
@@jmulvey371Washington tier 1 last year but this next year. Probably 3 or 4. They are losing so much talent. Plus new Coach
As a Buckeye, I am SO HYPED for this new B1G Conference!
(Unfortunately it seems to be a rare opinion of Big Ten fans)
Sorry, I'm an SEC guy. What do the majority of the B1G feel about the expansion? I haven't heard that side yet.
I understand why some fanbases don’t like the move. It’s a fear thing. They know Ohio State and Oregon are going to be running shit for the next decade. Michigan might squeak in a few good seasons too, we’ll see.
Ducks and Ohio State will be the best game of the season IMO!
VERY excited for this game!
This will be a BIG10 epic early game and I’m glad it’s at AUTZEN STADIUM. I really can’t wait anymore. GO DUCKS

Josh: That Hawaii game is off the schedule now.
First year in the BIG10 and were already dominating in recruiting
You aren’t dominating Ohio State in recruiting. Ohio state is pulling 5* all over the place.
Oregon is #2 behind OSU in recruiting where you always rank and still lose.
Was that graphic right? Oregon has 13 regular season games in '24? That's weird, does anyone know if there are other teams that have that this season? I'm assuming it's to preserve the rivalry game in the midst of conference realignment.
The did but then dropped the Hawaii game week zero
Week 0 game against Hawaii allows teams to schedule an extra game.
Idk why they still have 13. My guess was they had 3 non conference games that they committed too but then wanted to keep the rivalry alive against Oregon State
Michigan beats Ohio State 3 years in a row with 3 playoff appearances in a row and a national championship and somehow you have them as a tier 2 and Ohio st as a tier 1 😂
Will the Oregon ducks be playing at earlier times for the east coast now? Never really watched any Oregon games because of how late they always came on.
Yep that’ll be one of the big advantages of us in B1G
Yeah it's gonna be harder when UW , Oregon and USC beat the Midwest and east coast teams , but the I'm sure there will.still be excuses for their losses and "surprise" from the east media when the weather coast teams win
It'll just look even more ridiculous now than it did before

OSU vs OU is gonna be a hell of a rivalry

Washington has loaded its staff with nfl caliber coaches. Kids will come to Washington to get ready for the NFL. We are probably going 8-4 this year but the following year better watch out. Washington going to make a run for it.
I hope Washington can stay competitive at the highest level. I’m a Duck fan and I love how great the rivalry has felt. Even though the Ducks haven’t won the past 3, it’s been so enjoyable
It's certainly an interesting staff. Recruiting seems like biggest question mark. With all the money in Seattle, they need a fat NIL to buy players and coach them like an NFL lite team.
@@jimsomerville3924 Fisch has only been on the job a month, but he's already been more active in recruiting than DeBoer ever was, particularly with in state kids. That was the one area where DeBoer and his staff weren't doing a great job. I have no idea if Fisch will be a good game day coach or not, but I know that he will recruit higher rated classes than DeBoer and Jimmy Lake did

UCLA has talent and facilities to compete in the SEC if it was committed. They put just as many dudes in the pros as Alabama, even with trash recruiting classes. IE: They have a weird ability to develop talent better than most schools. And as much as people say it's the lack of a "booster culture.". Most people will tell you that's absolute BS. That campus sits in the middle of Beverly Hills and Bel Air. It has some of the richest alumni in the world.
So what's the real issue?
There's 2. First: Academics. It's the No. 1 public School in the country. Athletes basically have to meet the same criteria as a regular student. I personally believe that's unfortunate for a lot of guys willing to go to UCLA because athletes bring in way more money to these schools than "regular students" and athletic ability should be considered for admissions because it is a form of intelligence just as much as some rich kid being admitted for violin (In my humble opinion). But even if they do get in, there has to be a lot of academic support. UCLA is on a quarter system and most classes are hard AF. A LOT of "smart kids" start to look real average at UCLA after freshman year.
Second: It's coaching. That me-loud and yell to motivate everybody ain't gone fly with a kid that can calculate the orbit of Pluto in their head. If you work at UCLA, you just have to accept that some of those kids are smarter than you. The average coach just ain't gone work. With that said, there's TONS of coaches that actually WANT to coach at UCLA: Jedd Fisch, Daboer wanted to, Kliffsbury wanted to. Chris Peterson even wanted the job (All proven winners that also match the culture). They never got offers.
So I guess that means UCLA ADs are really suspect...
"First: Academics. It's the No. 1 public School in the country"
@@josephcernansky1794 that's not my opinion, but the opinion of several academic rankings. Most of the rankings are publicly available if you're interested in confirming the sources
I'm not sure I buy Academics as necessarily being a hold back in terms of athletic success. Depending on what exact ranking body you reference, the University of Michigan ranks just ahead of or just behind UCLA on the national academic scale(public universites), at either 2 or 3(UC Berkeley being no.1 most places I looked). Regardless both UCLA and Michigan are consensus top 3 academic public universities, and that has not seemed to hinder Michigan. Officially in both schools, student athletes are required to meet the same minimums for acceptance as are non athletes. Whether they "unofficially" do, I honestly cannot say, so perhaps that policy may play into things if Michigan is more "lax" in that regard.
Oregon is ready to go. Washington will get things back on track. USC and UCLA aren't ready for Big Ten play.
Sco Ducks 🦆
I’m sorry Josh, but I disagree. If we are going off their last 3 years: Product on the field, resources, staff, and etc. then you can’t slot UW below and Oregon or a Penn State. There is optimism that Oregon will finally take that next step if UW has a rebuild year, but that hasn’t occurred yet. Also, from what I’ve been seeing with people connected to the program…..Fisch is pulling in possible donors and is making connections with local guys that Deboer never could because he was the wrong personality for the job. In the long run, Deboer leaving coud actually end up a large net positive for the team. There are a lot of questions marks on how the team will perform in specifically 2024 though. I just foresee that UW’s recruiting has a potential to take a big step forward, likely outshining the Peterson years. I also think the soft start to the year gives the Huskies their best shot at getting the new team to gel before hitting the big boy games. I’ll give Oregon their due when they’re Logo no longer represents the number of Natty’s they’ve won. They are a good program but they aren’t tier 1 yet.
Big 10 better hope USC never figure out there defense. Cause USC offense, especially the WR groups, year in and year out are up there with Ohio State and Alabama. Just look how many 1000 yard receivers that went to USC, currently in the NFL. Most of that was with a lame coach like Helton. Also CD Lamb is a Riley WR, Mark Andrews. Also a Riley product. Even with all the wr talent usc just lost. They got 4 true sohp's WR's who are going to be legit.
BOLD PREDICTION..ORE loses 2 games..But still goes on to win the first expanded playoffs
I find it halarious how USC is being put into a “tier 3” hierarchy in the B1G, but Oregon, who has done nothing in the PAC-12, is in tier one. What has Oregon won, that USC hasn’t won in the past two years?
Lots of games and losses were by 3 pts. Also, Oregon has recruited in top 3 while having a huge amount of returning starters back.
I mean aside from oregon winning more pac-2 titles, more NY6 bowls (while in pac12), more playoffs berths, better recruitment and returning more talent from a more talented roster.
Aside from all that?
Historically (over the past 100 years), USC is Tier 1, Oregon is Tier 3. CURRENTLY, Oregon is Tier 1, USC is Tier 3.
Come February 2025, things could be different.
I think Josh was clear about that.
What has USC done in the past 15 years? Win 1 Rose Bowl 🤣🤣🤣 be real buddy. College football doesn’t rely on the past from 20+ years ago when a program use to be good. USC hasn’t been considered “elite” in 20 years
Oregon has Nike money. They can buy the best players with the best of them.
Let's be honest... USC got soft. The Pac 12 got soft. Definitely believe they can get it right. Just gonna take some time.
Josh pate the Florida gators will make the playoffs. DJ Lagway will win heisman, Cam Jackson will be all-sec, eugene Wilson will be a 1,000 yard receiver
🤣
Oregon is tier 1 as long as they don't play against tier 3 Washington.
Pac 12 refs are gone with the conference.
Tell me you don't watch pac 12 without telling me.
Just wake up and look at the score...

I think its too late for USC.
Riley should've have been recruiting offensive line and defensive line depth his first year at USC and built upon that this recruiting cycle.
They knew they were going into the Big 10 his first year, and yet he still didnt or maybe cant do it.
Sure he will get 1 or 2 if not 3 5 star athletes but the rest of the roster and or class from top to bottom is never a top 10 class, and they wont be defensive players. They will have another 7-5 season in 2024, maybe go 9-3 the next then 7-5 and Riley gets canned.
I dont think its going to work out and after 2026 USC will be looking for a new Head Coach. I mean you got beat up in the pack 12, sure it was a good confrence if not the best one this past season, HOWEVER you take away Caleb Williams, they lose 3 if not 4 more games.
You didn’t really watch USC I see. Caleb was playing hero ball trying to win another Hiesman it actually hurt the team in some aspects. The defense will definitely be better and LR brought in 6 OL last year. SC will win at least 9 games next year with Miller Moss a bunch of weapons and a improved defense.
Josh just loves Dan Lanning despite having won absolutely nothing.
Two 10+ winning seasons as a first time head coach. 22-5 so he’s won 22 games. Technically that’s still winning something let alone the 2 bowl games. Please be smarter if you’re going to make a comment. Thanks!

This expansion makes the football look better. But it makes their basketball no better. Maybe worse
The OSU fan sites are claiming they are the national champs again this year😆
So what .......
I would imagine Georgia - Alabama - Oregon and FSU fans are claiming their teams will be National champs too. It's all just fun speculation until AFTER the games are played and the facts are in. Go ahead and say what you want about future games because it really doesn't mean a whole lot.
Riley still hasn't changed his wus S&C coach. So the problem remains. He does not get nor does he accept the PHYSICAL nature of football. You'll know he's gotten it if he fires Bennie Wiley and gets a real hardass as S&C coach. And then, all the players who've been coached to be soft will transfer out.
It was never the S@C grinch wanted a certain type of player that’s why the offense was always top 5 and the defense wasn’t grinch wanted smaller guys really pay attention to the gains now of the athletes with the new DC

DeBoer was successful, against all odds, of fashioning a contender with 3-star players and walk-ons. And they had no depth. They didn't just lose their coach. DeBoer took coaching staff with him. Viewed a group photo of Alabama's coaching staff. A solid majority were wearing purple ties. Not complaining. Hard to rank Washington within the B1G for this coming year. What might emerge in August is a mystery. I would place them, at present, in the third or fourth tier. Like you said, Josh, terrible time for them to transition to a new, powerful conference. I would group Oregon within Tier 1 along with OS, Michigan and Penn State. USC could be an embarrassment again.
