this is what a great gathering is all about. Very well danced, and what is more important, they are enjoying themselves. No other dancing brings people together like this. A joy to watch
That said, this group is dancing what's sometimes dubbed "Mairi's Divorce" because 1st couple is supposed to pass LEFT shoulders in the middle of the reels of 4. :)
Every video I find on ECD is old people 😂 I used to go to one of these in Georgia (before I moved) and there were sooo many children. The only reason adults were there was for the kids. We even had balls at the end of the year, it was awesome.
Yes, I have danced all types, all over the world. But this type of dancing brings strangers face to face; other types brings strangers close by, but hardly ever speak. The basis of a ceilidh is to bring people from the district to have fun, not just to hop around the floor aimlessly without knowing with whom you are dancing.
I loved doing this as a kid at school and occasionally at a church gathering. Very surprised it's not more popular with the younger generation of today, must be the old fashioned music. Can you do this to more modern music? It's better than boring line dancing!
The reason that it's not popular with young people is firstly that it's no longer taught in schools in UK as it once was. That means it has to be learned, and remembered, even when drunk. Now that's not going to appeal to young people much, is it?
Looks more like Mairi's Divorce! We in New Zealand can get told off if we attempt right shoulder passing as first couple. It's fun and seems to flow better, though.
Try getting launched into the air across the room and into the tables full of food by a FREAKEN FARMERS WIFE AT A NEW FREAKEN YEARS FREAKEN CEILIDH. True story. I was a strapping young wee lad too. She through me round like rag doll.
I'm confused :O) I think if that women on the left gets up and joins in it will put things right, she's the missing pin :O) ........ bit late at the end!! :o/
