The real tragedy is that Ukraine never really had to lose neither men nor territory. They could have agreed to remain bloc neutral militarily, and they would not be in this situation. They would not have lost anything permanently. Even Crimea was negotiable in the March 2022 peace plan that was scrapped by NATO before it could be signed.
Didn't they lose Crimea years ago because they ended their neutrality? They probably wouldn't have lost it at all had they been better at balancing diplomacy to remain neutral.

Secondly, how can he convince the Kremlin that he wants peace with Russia yet NATO soldiers are fighting alongside Ukrainian Army and also that Minsk1 and 2 Peace Agreements, including the Istanbul Peace Agreement, which he himself signed in 2022, have not been honoured? Hitler once signed a peace agreement with Stalin and thereafter invaded Russia.Prior to this, he had state that he would sign a peace treaty with his enemy providing the treaty would help him defeat his enemy. Is Zelensky behaving the same way?
3rd and easy options, let Ukraine think on its head and agree with Russia. Simple.

Choosing between losing men or territory in the midst of ongoing war is nothing special to this situation. It is universally applicable on the front line and in every war. The stronger wins. In the same way, the Red Army pressed German troops when the tide of World War II turned after the Battles of Stalingrad and Kursk.
Why do you need a General to tell you those things ? Any school going kid can also tell you that.
Zelensky didn't try to prevent the conflict through diplomacy because he lacks honor and integrity.
In 2014 there was a coup. Soon after, there was a massacre in Odessa (dozens of people were burned alive). Ethnic Russians living in Ukraine were treated as subhuman. Their language and culture was being oppressed. A civil war broke out due to the rise in ethnic tensions. For 8 years the Ukrainian military was indiscriminately shelling civilians living in Donbas.
If Zelensky honored the Minsk agreement and pledged neutrality, none of this would have happened. The 8 year civil war would have ended and Donbas would have remained part of Ukraine. War is the ultimate failure of diplomacy.
Zelensky, Poroshenko, Merkel and Hollande admitted that Ukraine had no intention to honor the Minsk agreements.
Who didn't want peace? Who advised against the 2022 peace talks in April? Hint: someone visited Zelensky in Kiev at that time
Russia's national security was compromised once nato began to expand eastwards. Russia clearly stated that Ukraine joining nato was a red line (November 2021) and unfortunately this concern was never taken seriously. The Russians openly stated: if nothing changes, we will be forced to act in order to defend our national security. Enhancing the national security of one country at the expense of another is unacceptable. The Russians have legitimate security concerns.

The azov troops trapped in the azovstal steelworks in Mariupol used human shields. They refused to allow civilians to leave despite of humanitarian corridors being present.
Russia held a proposed cease fire in order for the civilians to leave, but azov would not allow the civilians to leave.

The first terrorist attack on the Kerch bridge killed the truck driver and the individuals in the adjacent car (innocent civilian victims).
The second terrorist attack on the Kerch bridge killed two parents and severely injured their young daughter.
I have done a lot of research and it took me a long time to write this comment. I have stated a lot of facts and I have given my honest opinion.
I have provided a brief summary of events that took place. In order to explain this whole situation in great detail, a book would need to be written.
Hopefully someone will write an UNBIASED book, stating facts and allowing the readers to form their own judgments. Everything I said can be fact checked and verified.

Rather than framing this situation as a war, it's more apt to view it as a transition towards a new world order. The USA teeters on the brink of self-destruction, recklessly wielding its perceived power and creating chaos in the process. The illusion of strength fueled by animosity is ultimately what leads to the downfall of the USA.

The weakening of NATO and the pending defeat of its proxy Ukrainian army by the Russian army was predictable and likely from the get go, if for no other reason than that a State owned purpose driven Russian MIC (Military Industrial Complex), its productivity and defensive capability is always going to have a distinct advantage over privately owned profit driven MICs such as that of the US and most if not all other NATO states. The same is true regarding an advantageous Chinese state owned purpose driven MIC.
If Ukraine keeps fighting this war, they will lose men AND more territory. If they negotiate peace now, they might at least keep their access to the Black Sea.
Neither Russia, nor the west. It's actually Ukraine that has been trapped and innocent Ukrainians are suffering because of this.
