Man, but that was some interesting conversation. Enjoyable to me cause I too lived during his times. I was just a kid like he was, our country was at war and I was a big eyed nine year old when it finally ended. I try to tell this sort of stories like the fellow was talking about but my son and grandchildren haven't the slightest interest in hearing about hard times. .@@AppalachianMemoryKeepers No, I was born and raised in SE Texas, a depression baby (Twin) with 8 brothers and sisters. How our parents coped is beyond me. I imagine except for the hills you folks live in, our living conditions were pretty much the same. If you didn't have connections with the Democratic party a southern family was SOL, went to bed hungry many a time.
My father was born and grew up in Ashe County. His life was very similar to Tom's. Thank you for posting this.
