      Hey brother I apologize for the delayed comments. I just got to reviewing all of my comments and realized I never hit send to reply back to you. Better late than never I guess. But thank you for the comments and I do plan on keeping the comments coming to help anyone with Garage door needs or issues and give tips on what I know and things I have learned throughout the past several years in the industry. I appreciate the feedback. Thanks again.

    always interesting to see how other guys do it. hangin horizontals from back to front is wild lol but to each his own. and i can't say i always put a top strut on (because my company never orders them) but on a soda can door like that with an opener, i'd at least put angle at the top if i didn't have a strut. manual doors you can get away without. anyway, well done 🤟

      I appreciate the feedback… even if it’s somewhat critical, yet constructive. Truly, I don’t usually hang the horizontal tracks from back to front but I hurt my shoulder and it hurts so bad when i set the radius on my shoulder while attaching it to the flag bracket like normal. So, for support I’ve been doing it back first. Hurt or not I still gotta get the job done and bring the content. So that’s the story I’m sticking to. lol

    You installed the top brackets all the way at the top but the instructions say to install 3 and 1/4" down from the top. I think this is to give you room for a top support bracket if needed.

      16 foot doors do. If it were a door he purchased from us I would have put one on but it’s common for these small doors to not come with one. Especially when these people buy them from Home Depot on their own!

    It was a fascinating video, I learned a lot of things from you, planning to replace my old wooden garage door with this ( from Home Depot). One question: I did not see the purpose of the safety cable, could you explain it to me. Thanks.

    • @dapperdudesgarage
      @dapperdudesgarage  2 місяці тому

      Safety cables are a MUST on those extension shutting systems. The purpose is because when they break they literally sling shot and are very dangerous, however, when running a safety cable, once the spring breaks it simply stays on the cable line and doesn’t fly off and damage anything or injure anyone.

      @@dapperdudesgarage Thank you very much for your reply. I have 2 more questions: If I buy an 8x7 garage door from Clopay, will the panel be 8 feet wide? my old wooden panel is 8 feet wide so I want to make sure it will fit. Another question: Should I buy the insulated or non-insulated door? someone said the non-insulated is not sturdy, what do you think? Thank you again.

    • @dapperdudesgarage
      @dapperdudesgarage  2 місяці тому

      @@henryh2159 Yes, if you have an 8x7 door currently then an 8x7 is what you need to buy and it should fit no problem. As far as insulation it dont necessarily come down to sturdy, it boils down to R-value pertaining to how hot or cool the insulation will keep your garage. Keep in mind what the people call sturdy pertaining to insulation is also extra weight on the door! Either way, either door will last LITERALLY a lifetime if taken care of and managed properly. The hardware such as spring will break down, but the panels themselves should last a lifetime. Hope that helps

      I have a couple saw horses. Use them on big doors but single car garage I’d honestly rather not mess with them. Seems like double the work to me. You still have to bend over and put the doors on the saw horses etc. Single doors are easy to mess with so I don’t waste the time loading and unloading anything extra. Just me.

    have a unique situation, I know everyone’s is unique. But really this one is. The front of my garage sticks out 2 feet from the house. On top of that inside the garage there is a support from the house that goes through the garage that will not allow the door lifting chain rail puller to go all the way to the front above the door. Any ideas. Would like to try and do this myself. I believe would need a bar about 2 feet long from the door to the motor drive chain rail. Any ideas?

      @@user-st1yn3tq4e not here at Dapper Dudes…see we legit try to run yearly checkups on our customers, at a small lube and tune fee of course, and make sure everything is checking out. Anyway, my point is it doesn’t matter how long the door is up, if it is balanced and there is no pressure against the opener shutting the door and its balanced well up and down, its just going to run good. If over time it starts bowing then we have a small upsell we can make. Catch my drift, sir, lol.
      No man, for the price the customer paid they got the most basic option possible. I literally told them we could knock off a little price if we didn’t include a strut, and they simply said ok. So, i just install and if issues arise later then there is a need for me, for Dapper Dudes! It’s reoccurring business and why I don’t argue against what a customer wants. I make known the possibilities based on decisions they make and if they still say yes to save a buck then it’s on them in the future. But I am up front with customers etc. So either way, whatever the homeowner/customer wants…I’ll do.
