This is historically correct, but it is not authentic. The actors playing the Confederate soldiers are too old, too heavy, and too slow. In reality, the attacking Confederates would have been in their late teens, early 20s, very slim, and very fast.
The soldiers, with exception of maybe a fewer higher ranking officers, are NOT actors, but _Re-enactors/Living Historians/Hobbyists. I was one of them. The are highly valued, in movies like this because the arrive with their own weapons, uniforms and gear; knowledge of the period; portraying a First person role; know the drill, maneuvers; terminology, etc that the soldiers should know. No having to teach extras all of that and budget is saved on costuming, props, etc. Sure, the ranks may be a little over aged, but a good portrayal, nonetheless.
they attack silently, without war cries or any noise. must have been psychological devastating for an enemy. roman legions marched against their opponents in formation in total silence on the battlefield, too. 🤔
@@baronvonbrennon3602 Their marching and approach were done in as silent a manner as possible, except for signalling with horns and drums. As they approach the enemy lines they would stop, throw their pilum, and then go *SCREAMING* into the attack.
Overconfidence can and will lose battles. When you outnumber them 2 to 1, it's easy to be overconfident. Shiloh was an all-out frontal attack that really had no hope to begin with. Once they reached the landing, they were spent.
@@mattfaulk8724 I don't know about that. Had they been able to launch it the day before, they could have got to the landing before Buell's reinforcements could get across the Tennessee River.
To have marched all day and then make that assault across the open (Don't know what the actual terrain and clearing was like), is a feat, unto itself.
I see an amazing parallel between what Jackson did here and what Gen. Norman Schwartzkopf did on a much larger scale in Iraq in 1991
thank god the camp didnt have an sentry or guards.....
They actually did have scattered pockets, but the quickness and force of the confederate attack was too much

Well wasn't there also deer and other animals ran through the camp right before the confederates struck
Yea foxes rabbits and deer were in the woods when the southern forces attacked

@@jason60chev it was a good movie I think and I love Jeff Shaara’s novel
Yes, along with other small game.
No rebel yell as they show up at last?
No, it's by design in order to give the yanks no opportunity to prepare or take up arms
They were under orders to make no sound until they were among the enemy.

Didn't know that, I must do some studying on the Roman Empire
My ancestors had to use bag pipes you can hear them in the hills for miles !☹

You'd think the Yanks would have learned from Shiloh to not be guarding against an attack out of the woods.

Hooker sent dispatches warning Howard of this, but Howard did nothing.

The Rebels' Last Hurrah. Their greatest and final victory in the Civil War.
Maybe not final (Chickamauga), but definitely the greatest.
Cold Harbor was a Confederate victory
@@jasonevans1278all due respect, Cold Harbor ain't getting any movies
Union lost a alot of supplies in this battle too.
Disciplined enough not to yell!!
Just a testament to how poorly led the Union forces were at the beginning of the war.
Last big victory for the south. Still had some after but not as big as this. I could be wrong.
