What I find crazy is that the fat tire bike tires are as expensive as a real car tire and don't last 1/100 as long and get punctures fairly easy, make sure you know how to patch them because these e-bikes are pretty heavy, that's why I went with the 29 x 2.225 the tires are half of the price as the fat tire bike, plus being over 6 foot makes for a much more comfortable ride, just a thought.
Got your point about the cost. Fat tires can be surprisingly pricey for how long they last. Going with 29 x 2.225 sounds like a practical choice, especially for a more comfortable ride if you’re tall. How do they perform on rough terrain compared to fat tires?
All California did was codify the voluntary ebike classes. Anything that exceeded those were never e-bikes, but Vespa-style scooters, mopeds or motorcycles, and most states treat them as such, which includes requirements for registration, insurance, a licensed operator, VIN, DOT compliant lighting and mirror kit and a place to attach a license plate. The ebike classes power and speed limits are an acceptable compromise to not have to comply with the motorcycle requirements. For those who want the most hill-climbing help they can get within regulations: 1) Look into the torque outputs the motors are capable of. Torque is what you need to climb hills and accelerate quickly (Force = mass x acceleration, and gravity is simply acceleration you need to work against when climbing, and torque is simply force applied at the outer of the tire that’s powered). For 750W peak power input, I’ve seen hub motors that output anywhere from 40-100Nm. For mid-mount motors, I’ve seen motors that peak below 450W that output from 40-120Nm of torque. Designed efficiency and quality of construction matter. 2) If you need more help, consider a model that uses the same motor but puts it through smaller diameter wheels & tires, as torque delivered at the axle is divided by the outer radius of that tire, so a smaller radius tire will give that motor more mechanical advantage. A 20x2.4 tire will need only about 65-68Nm motor to match the climbing ability of a 27.5x2.4 tire equipped with a 100Nm motor. RadPower reduced the peak torque of their RadWagon 5 motor to 90Nm when that same motor puts out 100Nm in their Radster Trail and Road models, probably because 100Nm through the 20in wheel of the Wagon would be too difficult for most riders to control. 3) If you pedal to add to the effort of the motor, look for a good range of gears that will support effective pedaling at the speed range you want to ride in and offers a rear gear that is close in size to the front chainring, if not larger. It will mean larger steps between adjacent gears, but the motor helps bridge those gaps.
Segway knows what they’re doing. They call their Xafari and ebike and their Xyber an electric vehicle, as the former complies with ebike power restrictions and the Xyber clearly is an electric motorcycle. RadPower also knew what they were doing when they developed their three newest models, the Radster Road, Trail and RadWagon 5. They peak at 750W, but their hub motors can output up to 100Nm (90Nm for the RadWagon). Those are big jumps from when their hub motors could output only 40-55Nm. And they compare favorably to the 80Nm peak output of Segway’s Xafari. Rad clearly invested in their new hub motor.
We do not inovation, we need reliability, quality and standardization. Every ebike 750W to 2500W electrical power is legal. YOU NEEDPOWER TO GO UPHILL, DOWN HILL YOU CAN GO LIKE ANYTHING ON WHEELS 80KM/H PLUS?? True 250W ebike uphill 4-6km/h if you pedal dangerous and who need such rubbish. You do not take weight into account SUCH LAW IS RACIST. Many ebikes declared 250W have controlers 1000W total corruption anyway, in reality only person 50kg and less can use true 250W ebike. More powered not needed so ABOVE 5000W ( you do not need 2500 to 5000W technically ) EMOPED REQUIRE LOWER SITTING POSITION MORE SAFETY GEAR . Bikes goes 15 to 35km/h you do not like wind and noise and no efficiency in upright position. So somebody without brain do not understand what is wheel, weight, write laws??? Total debility. Unlimited corruption unlimited stupidity. Regulations by uneducated cirrupt and very stupid gov employee is RACIST, DISCRIMINATORY AND NOCONNECTION WITH NATURAL RIGHTS AND AND TECHNICAL INTELIGENCE. For person 160kg 1000W is the same as 250W for 40 kg person ?? Regulations does not say El power or mech power? Peak 5min or 30min . I have 2x750W ebike average sporty bikes goes 10km faster? Sporty bike driver in low visibility position cannot see too much, My bike much stronger dies not need any maintenance 5000km plus. Sporty bike shaved everywhere with my weight daily maintebance? I have hydraulic breaks?? I ride mid upper position, slower, everything safer SO WHAT US THE REASON, ATTACK ON FREEDOM , human inteligence , AND SAFETY ONLY ONE. BIKES DO NOT HAVE LEGAL LAWS AND DO NOT NEED ANY. Overall weight me and sporty bike 130kg, with ebike 150kg no difference in weight?? So what is the problem except ebike much safer?? Throtle you need to cross road not all crossings flat without can be dangerous.
Prices would've been great?!😔
they haven't disclosed them yet

How many of these bikes are now illegal in California.
We'll let you know as soon as they are on the road
They’re not illegal in California, stop spamming misinformation.
