Paul Motian - The Story of Maryam

The Story of Maryam, from Paul Motian's 1984 album by the same name. Personnel: Paul Motian - drums; Bill Frisell - electric guitar; Joe Lovano - tenor saxophone; Jim Pepper - soprano saxophone; Ed Schuller - bass. I saw this formation play in Madrid and it was pure magic. I was especially anxious to see Jim Pepper as I was a great fan of his Jim Pepper's Pow Wow album featuring Witchi-Tai-To. Background images are from my trip to Cacela Velha in the Algarve, southern Portugal, in 2023.

Jim Pepper was an amazing player, we used to jam in Big Sur when he came through. Miss him still.

How great that you knew him! I saw him live in Madrid with this formation of Paul Motian's. I mostly went because Jim Pepper was playing, but the whole band was amazing.
