Hi Bruce, great looking observation hive the kids where fascinated good on ya Bruce your presentation went really well. Thx for sharing your vlog with us mate.
Bruce, great video and presentation for the kids! You probably planted the beekeeping seed in several minds with your presentation. It wouldn’t surprise me if you hear from some of those kids wanting more info! Please be careful when you’re working the bees in this heat.
It looked like a very successful presentation. I also agree they were ready for a bigger hive. It is nice that the kids could observe that and I am sure they went home with a lot of excitement. Truthfully I do not think most adults have experience seeing a beehive. Unless they are a beekeeper or have family who is beekeeping, I would suggest the majority of the population has never experienced the visual of a beehive. As of a couple years ago I had never experienced it myself, now at age 60. Thanks for sharing Bruce
Very nice Bruce. I made one out of a nuc by cutting out a section on both sides and installing plexiglass with caulk and screws on the inside. I put handles on the side cutouts and can put them back to cover hole. Also put a hinged plexiglass lid on it with a migratory top. Great fun for kids to watch. Thanks for the videos.
I would have loved to be there and observe the bees in the observation box. Definitely a sting free Honey Bee observation! The children looked like they were interested!
Yes. It was a good day. Those bees are doing extremely well right now by the way! Looking super strong. Good young queen doing her thing. Just peeked in on them a couple of days ago.
Great video Bruce and great effort on your part exposing those young kids to the beekeeping world. They all looked amazed but also very interested in what was going on inside the hive. Who knows -- there may be a few future beekeepers in that group.
A lot of thought has gone into the design & manufacture of that observation hive. I hope you can get a lot more use out of it so people can have a "window" into the bees life. I trust the summer is being good to you & the bees.
I really like your observation hive. Very ingenious. I have a very old, one frame, observation hive that is at least 40 years old. It still works but not an ideal setup like the one you got from Mann Lake. I got mine from Kelly Bee Company in Clarkson, Kentucky which is now owned by Mann Lake. Thanks for showing your presentation.
That looks like a nice set up. I guess if you had a really small swarm that you were rescuing, that might be an OK box to get them started in. The reason why I suggest that, is because it’s got to be disruptive if you have to do this to a hive. Some people say that it takes three days for them to get over being disrupted. But if it’s something you’re gonna have to do from time to time, perhaps having a really small swarm living in that little nuke box might be a solution of sorts. It might be less disruptive for them, and you would have only to remove the queen excluder when you’re not showing your little colony. Just a thought.
What a fantastic idea for a first experience with bees. I saw that you were in Utah last year. If you ever come back I would sure like to meet you. I love your videos. Keep up the great work!
Dang it! I so want 1 of those now!! Has to better than tv and video games! Great job Bruce and well done, but I wish you would of showed us queen was ok before you put in big box!lol My bet she have it full soon.thanks!!
I would like to try and build one similar to that. Just not sure if I could build it tight enough to keep them inside it. That would be great, yea kids they can’t get out and then one gets stung. Be my luck. Lol Looked like there might be a few future beekeepers in that group.
Hi Bruce. What are your thoughts on maintaining a hive full time in the observation nuc? Is it too small for that long-term for small, managed hive for the back-yard? I have one I used for a presentation and we'd like to have one in our back-yard that we could always go look at....
Yeah I think it is a bit small. And is this style the queen pretty much stays up too. It is a temporary observation set up. They do have more permanent ones you can use. Just have to do some research and see what you want to do.
@@brucesbees Iised my mentor’s last year at our Family Day for the National Guard here in Maine. They’ve asked me back and I am thinking I should just invest in one.

Bruce that was awesome. Vary cool that you did that.
Yes lots of fun.

You’re welcome. Thanks for watching! I appreciate you watching and commenting on the video!
Those young ladies were truly captivated. The observation seed you planted today will blossom into a beekeeper tomorrow. Well done, Bruce.
Thanks for your kind words. Good times…

Yes it was a lot of fun. And you’re right about the heat. It is that time of year!
I did not see one cell phone!!!! Observation hive was a great idea, the girls were really interested...Great job Bruce
Yes it turned out great!
So good! At least one or two of those kids will probably take an interest in beekeeping, and that is the very best outcome!
Maybe so. Lots of fun!

Yes it worked out great!

Nice observation hive. Kids really looked like they were enjoying it. Good on you. Thanks
Yes I think everyone enjoyed it.

The girls looked like they had a good time.
Great video Bruce!

Sounds like a nice product. I am not super creative so I usually let other people figure it out for me haha. Thanks for checking in!
The looks of interest on their faces was fantastic. What a great video and experience
Yes it was a great experience!
Genius! I always wanted to raise bees but never had the property to do so

Thanks for checking in. So far the summer has been very good.
I think you really hit home on this one and got some people thinking about it and what they could do. Great video
Thanks!

Yes it is a pretty good set up. You can pretty much let the bees stay in there for awhile and then just close it up and go.
Education is so important thanks for doing that
It was a great day. I love this kind of stuff. Thanks for watching!
The girls were fascinated. Maybe we’ll have a future beekeeper or two

Hey thanks for checking in and for the input. Yes it is disruptive for the bees but they seem to adapt fairly well.
Great idea, best way for other to be attract to have bees. Love the idea.
Yep. Good times…

Yes it was a lot of fun. Coming to Utah on August. Email me and maybe we can work something out!

I didn’t actually see her but I’m sure she was fine. At least I hope so. Thanks for watching!
My bet also ,u sold a bunch of them or put on a lot ofwish list!
Nice
That was cool. Now I got to get one. For the kids at my school
Yes they would love it. It’s very cool!
Great educational aide ❤️✝️
Yes it is a great tool if you need to do a presentation about bees.
I would like to try and build one similar to that. Just not sure if I could build it tight enough to keep them inside it. That would be great, yea kids they can’t get out and then one gets stung. Be my luck. Lol Looked like there might be a few future beekeepers in that group.
Yeah I hear ya. I just ordered this one from Mann Lake. Easier that way but some folks like to build their own stuff.
@@brucesbees love building my own stuff, may have to order one of those thought. Probably best bet. Bees loose in a school would be bad. Lol

Lol!
I am about to buy one. When all was said and done were you happy with this observation hive?
Yes it is a really good thing to have if doing presentations about bees. It will draw a crowd.

@lavenderbridges it will last you for years I’m sure. Just easier to have your own.
Hi Bruce, Do you have a Update on clover you planted?
Did not work out well. A little bit of it came up but nothing like I envisioned. I think I planted too late in the season. Need to do some more research if I decide to plant again.
@@brucesbees I planted late fall last year worked fair.
Any secrets to application?
@@brucesbees I did it in the rain if that helps.
Thanks for checking in! We had a tremendous honey flow this year even without the clover so I am not sure I will try again but maybe…
First
Bruce, so nice to see children not wearing those stupid masks. This demonstration could reach a future beekeeper.
Yes! A good time was had by all.
Could you just put one frame with the queen
I think you could I believe keeping the whole colony intact is probably less stressful on the bees.
@@brucesbees Ok Thanks
