Glad you enjoyed your time in Texas! If you ever get another chance to come back, you ought to come to South Texas during deer season. Not the biggest, but there sure are a lot of them! Not to mention, plenty of hogs and coyotes and even javalina.
Here in Idaho I'm guessing but I would say 70% of the land here is either BLM or National forest. However, draw a line from Boisie east to the eastern border of Idaho and south of that line I've hunted some great country for Deer, elk and pronghorn. The year before last the winter kill was severe on Mule deer and it may be a few years before they recover. The winter also affected the pronghorn but the elk thrive.
We are planning to move Alabama in the next couple of months from Idaho and I would share information on hunting deer and elk in Idaho in exchange for equivalent Alabama information. I mostly hunt public land so I’m not up to speed on the lease opportunities but you’re gonna love it here…and yes the big downside is we don’t have elk but I think you’ll enjoy gettin after some whitetails and hogs!
