You guys this is why I love watching you. Jamie gets into the knit making so much , so excited to see Sarah made. Sarah talks so fast when she gets excited! I love it. I am the only one that knits in my family. I am envious ♥️.
I am also left handed and knit Lefty or Mirror. I have taught right handed people to knit and crochet. They best way is to sit in front of them like a "mirror" and the other person can follow the same movements. 2 other lefties below gave great info so i wont repeat it. I don't like to call it backwards....that term has negative tones to it. Almost meaning 'wrong'. So it's best to say left handed knitting or Mirror knitting. Us left handers have learned to adapt very well to a dominant right handed world.
I am an ASMR fan. Love to have a vid playing as I knit, or to add atmosphere to our school time, while I fold laundry, or to help me settle in to sleep when my mind is so busy from the day. I enjoy it with headphones or just on the speakers, or TV. So many beautiful ASMR videos on here.
I’m not sure if it will work the same as crochet, but my right handed grandmother taught my left handed cousin to crochet by having her sit facing her. She could see what Grandma was stitching and was able to copy with her left hand. I, too, am left handed, but I sat next to Grandma and learned right handed crochet and knit, and Ican’t do the left handed way. BTW, that baby sweater that Sarah knit is so darn cute!
I am a lefty and crocheted first. I learned to knit left-handed from a book. Then, I found it too difficult to translate lace patterns to left-handed, so I got on UA-cam and taught myself right-handed knitting. Now, I do both. When I knit, I knit right-handed, but when I purl, I knit left-handed. This means I don't turn my work but go back and forth. So convenient!
Our curtain opens as Larry, having just finished his morning bath Is searching for his hairbrush Having no success, Larry cries out Oh, where is my hairbrush? Oh where is my hairbrush? Oh, where, oh, where, oh, where, oh, where Oh, where, oh, where, oh, where, oh, where oh, where Is my hairbrush? Having heard his cry, Pa Grape enters the scene Shocked and slightly embarrassed at the sight of Larry in a towel Pa regains his composure and reports I think I saw a hairbrush back there Back there is my hairbrush Back there is my hairbrush Back there, back there, oh, where, back there Oh, where, oh, where, back there, back there, back there Is my hairbrush? Having heard his joyous proclamation Junior Asparagus enters the scene Shocked and slightly embarrassed at the sight of Larry in a towel Junior regains his composure and comments Why do you need a hairbrush? You don't have any hair Larry is taken aback The thought had never occured to him No hair? What would this mean? What will become of him? What will become of his hairbrush? Larry wonders No hair for my hairbrush No hair for my hairbrush No hair, no hair, no where, no hair No hair, no hair, no where back there, no hair For my hairbrush Having heard his wonderings, Bob the Tomato enters the scene Shocked and slightly embarrassed at the sight of Larry in a towel Bob regains his composure and confesses Larry, that old hairbrush of yours Well, you never use it, you don't really need it. So, well, I'm sorry, I didn't know But I gave it to the Peach, 'cause he's got hair! Feeling a deep sense of loss, Larry stumbles back and laments Not fair, oh, my hairbrush Not fair, oh, my poor hairbrush Not fair, not fair, no hair, not fair No where, no hair, not fair, not fair, not fair My little hairbrush Having heard his lament, the Peach enters the scene Himself in a towel, both Larry and the Peach are shocked and slightly Embarrassed at the sight of each other But recognizing Larry's generosity, the Peach is thankful Thanks for the hairbrush Yes, good has been done here The Peach exits the scene Larry smiles, but Still feeling an emotional attachment for the hairbrush, calls out Take care of my hairbrush Take care, oh my hairbrush Take care, take care, don't dare not care Take care, nice hair, no fair, take care, take care Of my hairbrush
My youngest son has started knitting, he's a leftie....his local yarn shop advised right-handed continental since the left hand does a lot of the work...will see how he does 😁
I had to go listen to the hairbrush song. It’s been a long time since I’ve watched Veggie Tales. My youngest is 27 now. Brought back great memories. I really enjoy spending time with you all. Thank you so much for sharing your time and talents! Happy Knitting!
I am left-handed and I knit totally backwards, taught myself after being told I just needed to learn to do it "right" because I was doing it "wrong", ugh. I tried doing it right-handed, but I am very left-hand dominant and it felt clumsy and I couldn't get even tension. So essentially I hold my working needle in my left hand and my holding needle in my right hand, moving the stitches right to left. I am a thrower, my SSKs lean right, my k2tog leans left, I also switch the M1R & M1L stitches, and with charts I start in the bottom left, because that's the direction I am knitting. When I knit a sweater in pieces, I have to keep in mind that when I follow the directions for the right front, I am actually knitting the left front, and vice versa. Either way it's fine because I still wind up with all the necessary pieces. This does require a great deal of reverse engineering in patterns but I'm in my 50s and just started knitting about 3 years ago, and I don't want to be locked out of the club any longer. Right now I mostly knitting simple sweaters in the round, but am thinking I am ready to get fancy. I have been a seamstress for decades, so I focus on techniques to give a good fit and don't mind seaming at all. Happy to finally say I am a knitter!
Lefty knitter here! I "flick" which is just really "throwing" without letting go of the yarn to wrap around the needle. It's not really knitting backwards but more mirror knitting. I still read charts right to left for lace and cables. The only thing is that I have to be conscious of my ssk and k2tog and which way they lean and how it works in the pattern. I crochet right handed oddly enough.
I am a lefty. I learned to crochet first and was taught how to do that right handed. Then one day I self taught myself how to knit from a book. Since I was used to holding my yarn in my left hand to crochet, I somehow translated the instructions to knit left handed. I am a left handed thrower/flicker and all of my projects turn out mirrored when finished.
I am left handed and I am totally a picker. I hold the yarn in my right hand but I don't think it's a certain way. I think it's just what felt comfortable to me as I have never had anything taught to me in any sort of left or right handed specific way. Thank you 80's
I am a lefty. I started pick knitting when I was learning Fair Isle knitting. Eventually, it was just easier to 'pick' although I am still proficient at 'throwing'. Not sure if my left handedness makes it easier for me to pick.
Hahaha! The Sippy cup is such a sassy move from your daughter 😂 loved it! Omg I can’t believe I won the mkal on insta! My dog isn’t good luck charm, clearly, haha! Sent you an email! Jamie you have me eyeballing turtle neck sweaters now…. Gosh there are so many lovely ones out there!! I love the detailing on yours! Can’t wait to see it finished ❤❤
Hope your Gran is ok. Her cough sounded terrible. I absolutely love the interaction between the three of you sisters! So FUN! I too have a daughter that would have given me a “sippy cup”🤣 OH…and Sarah, I would absolutely LOVE the baby sweater as a pattern with full range of sizes😉hint hint. Kristie, I think you will have enough yarn and if not a contrast arm or rib would look great!
Fellow lefty here - I learned knitting from Bill Souza on UA-cam. After learning the basics, I understood that I have to do increases and decreases the opposite of written patterns, but cables as they are written. And I can knit with the yarn in either hand, but I find that my Clover bamboo needles start to unscrew when I hold the yarn in my right hand. It seems faster though that way. 🤷🏻♀️
I'm left handed, and knit right handed. I crocheted before I learned to knit and I knit continental. It took me a long time to learn to hold yarn in right hand for color work.
Me too! See my comment above. With my working needle in my right hand, some of the stitches were so tight they wouldn't slide on the needle at all, others were more loose, plus I felt so clumsy it wasn't enjoyable. The same people who talk about being accepting of everything under the sun were so quick to tell me I was doing it wrong, and "there's no such thing as 'handedness' in knitting". It was entirely frustrating, and I'm so glad I quit listening to them. I think part of the reason I would get those kinds of answers is because some of these people consider themselves to be experts, and they didn't want to admit they didn't know how to help me. It's fine, I am proud now to say I figured it out my damn self, lol!
Yes, it's an hour from Red Deer out to Rocky. The shop is lovely. She was dyeing yarn recently but I don't think she uses the name Red Fox Fibres anymore but I have 1 of her buttons on my knitting bag next to me!!
Katy what about doing something fun for the cuffs like on the grey hoodie you had on with white and red stripes? Not those colors but something fun if you don’t have enough yarn.
Hi! Hope everyone enjoyed Shrek! My husband and I enjoyed watching it when it was on Netflix. We went to "The Swamp: A Celebration of the Shrek Movies and Musical" at Feinstein's/54 Below during our trip to NYC in June. (I'm a newish subscriber. I started watching your videos in December. I just got back into it because I finally had everything together to finish the scarf and I wanted to finish it for my husband.)

When i first learned to knit i learned right handed (i am left handed), and could figure out why it was so hard for me to get. Once i realized there were instuction on how to knit left handed i re taught myself and now I knit left handed continental style.
I’m left handed and I flick (right handed) because when I crocheted I would hold yarn in right hand cannot continental just can’t get the tension right

Left handed knitter and long time watcher of your podcast!
'Oh where us my hairbrush' is one of my all time favorite VeggieTales songs
lol When Katie sang oh where is my hairbrush I immediately sang I gave it to the peach! 😂🤣

Having heard his cry, Pa Grape enters the scene
Shocked and slightly embarrassed at the sight of Larry in a towel
Pa regains his composure and reports
I think I saw a hairbrush back there
Back there is my hairbrush
Back there is my hairbrush
Back there, back there, oh, where, back there
Oh, where, oh, where, back there, back there, back there
Is my hairbrush?
Having heard his joyous proclamation Junior Asparagus enters the scene
Shocked and slightly embarrassed at the sight of Larry in a towel
Junior regains his composure and comments
Why do you need a hairbrush?
You don't have any hair
Larry is taken aback
The thought had never occured to him
No hair? What would this mean?
What will become of him?
What will become of his hairbrush? Larry wonders
No hair for my hairbrush
No hair for my hairbrush
No hair, no hair, no where, no hair
No hair, no hair, no where back there, no hair
For my hairbrush
Having heard his wonderings, Bob the Tomato enters the scene
Shocked and slightly embarrassed at the sight of Larry in a towel
Bob regains his composure and confesses

Well, you never use it, you don't really need it.

My little hairbrush
Having heard his lament, the Peach enters the scene
Himself in a towel, both Larry and the Peach are shocked and slightly
Embarrassed at the sight of each other
But recognizing Larry's generosity, the Peach is thankful
Thanks for the hairbrush
Yes, good has been done here
The Peach exits the scene
Larry smiles, but
Still feeling an emotional attachment for the hairbrush, calls out
Take care of my hairbrush
Take care, oh my hairbrush
Take care, take care, don't dare not care
Take care, nice hair, no fair, take care, take care
Of my hairbrush

Melanie! I can totally relate!! I love being a leftie for chart reading - it’s western!
@@coloradoknits Exactly! Reading it left to right, at least starting off, is one of the things I don't have to constantly remind myself about.
