When I add them to a drawing, it turns clean curves into a bunch of angular straight lines that mimic the curve. It only does it in the camera view and fixes itself in the render, but makes it frustrating for posing. I’ve tried troubleshooting and haven’t had any luck. Any idea what could be going on?

your artwork just doesn't have enough vector points
give it more vector poits along the lines, not too much, just a little more, and it will work.

I use shortcuts for those selection modes and it makes it even better!
