I just think it's hilarious that salamangreat just completed eclipsed the code talkers in terms of popularity. Like I don't think any other protagonist's deck got this completely eclipsed by an ally or rival character.

Salamangreat have an identity; Code Talker is generic bs without identity. The designs aren't unique, the effects aren't unique, the playstyle isn't unique, and to some degree it's a tumor to the cyberse type for being so generic.
I love Salamangreat, you start the turn with 5 cards in hand, and usually end the turn with 5 cards in hand, a decent board (nothing too broken or unfair), and follow up.
When people think of "midrange" in regards to Yu Gi Oh, Salamangreat is usually the first thing to come to mind. They have cards that do everything short of Pendulum summoning, and constantly recur their resources but don't really have something they do that a more specialized deck can't exel in over them. But they still managed to hold their own against 2 other decks and Thunder Dragon Colossus for a long time before banlist hits knocked them down a peg, and were the only one of that group to stay in a playable state immediately after those hits. Deck is probably overdue to return to its former state in the TCG, especially now that they have an excuse with some new cards to shill.
I would definitely say the deck is slowly returning to prominence. Over the last few banlists Miragestallio, and Salamangreat Circle are now at a full set of 3 and Gazelle at this point is the only holdout and I wouldn’t be surprised if it got pushed up to 2 if not a full 3 come the next list. Also with Soulburning Volcano Salamangreat of Fire is an excellent addition to the deck and it even shot up in price.
Hell 6 years later they are still a competent rogue deck who can put up a good fight against any top tier decks. I’m proud to say I’ve beaten a few snake eyes decks with salamangreat, even if it’s a genuine struggle, but hey sometimes the stars align and salamangreat can still pull through
This one is a real treat. I love your Work, Golden Nova. You have the thanks of my wife and myself. We often have a videos of your running during supper.
One thing I like about yu-gi-oh is the fact you got an idea how the story would’ve continued by the cards alone. Like Salamangreat of Fire can be seen as Soulburner still cling to his memories flames. Or his synchro monsters trying used the deck his own way. Idk, just seem interesting to ponder.
Eyyy you finally made a video on Salamangreats. Loved Soulburner in the anime and loved the archetype overall from the concept behind the gimmick of its reincarnation summoning (even if we barely used it in the competitive format) and how good it is at recycling resources. Definitely one of the fairest competitive decks that became meta. Sadly, it’s nowhere near as good in the current format but the deck was never broken in the first place. And I like how you emphasized Transcendence as a ‘quick-play spell.’ If you have a good hand, you can set up a Pyro Phoenix + face-down Transcendence as a turn 1 endboard. Then during your opponent’s turn, you can relink Pyro with Transcendence to nuke your opponent’s board while they’re setting up or break their backrow even before they get to end their turn
I'll never forget what happened in Master Duel. I was using a Salamangrate deck, and my opponent brings out a Quintet Magician. I looked on in disbelief at the 4500 attack and defense. I see his effect that he can't be destroyed by card effects. That gives me an idea. I manage to Xyz summon "The flaming wild horse that cuts through illusions! Mirage Stallio!", and then I use him to Link summon Heatlio, and thanks to his effect, Quintet Magician was bounced back into the extra deck. My opponent then tried playing defensively, but it didnt work against Pyro Phoenix. 🔥 Also, the Japanese name for this archetype is spelled Salamangrate, a portmanteau of Salamandra (a genus known as fire salamanders) and transmigrate. The latter means when a soul passes into a different body after death, which coincides with the whole reincarnation thing.
Salamangreat Raccoon is one of my favorite cards, I wouldn't say it's "good" but when MD limits the deck 1 Raccoon is usually my first add to make it better, they usually limit your ways to get to your spell/traps and sometimes after interruption your only option to add back to hand with Sunlight Wolf after you make your plays is going to be Circle, with a single Racoon being in deck it makes a set Circle a very versatile form of defensive interruption that is important since maintaining a reincarnated link is so important. My point is Raccoon kind of gives you a janky off-ramp. I will never forget in the Academy event when I had to end on just Wolf with a Raccoon I bounced back to hand for Falco's effect, my opponent Summoned Armityle with 10k attack only to be stopped by Baby Raccoon Tantan Assault Mode.
This archetype has a special place in my heart. Today was the first time I played in an IRL yugioh tournament since....goddamn, since Inzectors and Wind-Ups were top-tier. I only won two duels, but that was because I'm rusty with just how much Salamangreat can do. And even then, I was able to hold my own (or at least not get completely overwhelmed) by crazy decks like Fiendsmith and Ryzeal. The fact that a deck that mostly built over five years ago was able to compete once I upgraded it just felt so awesome to me. And I wasn't the only one, because another dude was also playing Salamangreats, and way better than me! He was able to play through 9 negates and still came out on top! I really think this shows just how well-designed this archetype is.
Now this is a beatiful video about salat the best one i've seen... even if i havent watched it completly yet Watched it completly now my opinion hasnt changed
My flaming raging boys will burn bright with their reincarnated fires! For some techs I like are the following, Flame Bufferlo as a searchable Normal Summon that also is like a Pot of Greed when used to summon Baleynx, and since Parallel helps a lot with making Rank 4s we can make any Rank 4 with quick effects or lingering effects such as Bagooska or even Abyss Dweller since Miragestallio’s lock is only activating their effects, not their summons, so there are a lot of good options to make and even more stupid possibilities.
Glad to see some arc v characters getting some recognition again. I fell off the anime after 5Ds so I aware of these characters and the decks but not their story
Salamangreat is one of my all-time favorite decks. Brotherhood of the Fire Fist was my first competitive deck and I loved it to pieces. When Salamangreat debuted I got the same sense of fun I had with Fire Fist.
Okay people are really overlooking salamangreat of fire, even tho that card locks you into the fire, he is a one card reincarnation raging pheonix who will add the rage from the deck to hand, who will blow up 4 card on the opponent field, and can then finish the game a turn after rather they have a monster or not, also you will have the fire back in hand by the end of turn 1, so yeah the new cards are really broken
Takeru is the Crow Hogan of Arc-V. A relatively nice character, adds a slightly different angle to the story, but maddeningly takes away screen time from the heroine WHO DESERVED SO MUCH BETTER (I could totally see Aoi as a Vrains vigilante vis a vis the Black Rose Witch if she had been a victim of the Lost Incident)! P.S. I literally have nothing against Takeru except for his sucking up most of Aoi's oxygen.
Hiita the fire channeler could also be a good tech pick since it's a search for pretty any fire monster you want for the cost of discarding itself and another fire monster with less atk than the card you want which could also be some set up for the grave
i can't believe that after 6 months, i've been using raging phoenix more effectively than accesscode in my salad. you really played the card down here you know it.
I have been playing Salamangreats for 5 years now and it's by far by favourite deck. (I think the pfp gives that out) The only complaints I have are: 1) for some reason most Salamangreats have a "one effect only" while having 2. It gets annoying sometimes 2) it doesn't have a great endboard 3) That's my personal suggestion but, I would really like a way to cheat out the links in order to quick reincarnate or having monsters change their names like Formud skipper.
I havent played yugioh sense the early 2000s, back in 2018 i had a friend that wanted me to get back into it and he tried to teach me this deck. Now i see why. I ended up being a MTG player for a bit. This deck hits me in the spirit so i might get it. Plus my roommates bf play and i wanna whoop him with this deck
