Brian Washington, thanks for your comment.....cuz Schenkel was indeed one of the all time greats to bring the world of sports to the fans of the world....for after posting 1400 videos at www.imasportsphile....which includes some 900 sporting events in which all were hosted by some broadcaster or another....I have come to the decision that when I get all 2300 hours of vintage sports, comedy and music posted....I am going to begin a Section on my webpage in which I focus on sports broadcasters/analysts/hosts.....which will feature the work of the greats like Jim McKay, Curt Goudy, Keith Jackson, Vin Scully, Howard Cosell, Al Michaels, Bob Costas, Marv Albert, Kern Tipps, John Madden, Pat Summerall, Chris Berman, Bob Ley, Brett Musberger, Barry Tompkins et al......and of course Chris Schenkel...for I have a great deal of work by each of these legendary commentators.....so visit my page often....cuz I have much more Chris Schenkel to come.
KJ Adams, thanks for your comment....as I am assuming you are giving a "shout-out" to Steve Collins....the Canadian 90m ski jumper....and if so, that really brings joy to this lil ole chiweenie Sportsphile.....who spent the past year posting 1500 vintage sports, comedy and music videos at www.imasportsphile.com....with some 9,000 left to post...when I receive a comment like yours....it inspires me to continue on my quest....cuz of an all caps "STEVIE!!!".
Ima Sportsphile Steve Collins was and still is a legend in our city. His accomplishments are mostly unrecognized and especially hard to find in video format. Fortunately ski jumping had more coverage then than it does now. Thank you for providing this archival footage. Nordic sports especially ski jumping used to be a major deal in Thunder Bay. Hopefully more footage will be accessible on UA-cam. I know it's out there.
KJ Adams, thanks for the education about Steve Collins...for this even makes my post even better....cuz "Stevie !!!" is a local hero for you folks....and regarding ski jumping....I have more already posted in the Olympics section and Other Sports section at www.imasportsphile.com....as I know I have posted a film all about ski jumping called "Ride the Wind"....which is a really nice piece....plus there is so much more to come....and since I have 12 youtube accounts....you need to keep checking my webpage....but anyway, thanks for learning about Steve Collins.
Strange, but the Lake Placid web site says that the jumps were 120 and 90 meters. not 70 and 90!
The late, great Chris Schenkel.
