I have 11 of the Cobi ship models, one of course an Iowa. They are fantastic, fun to build and way more durable than a plastic model kit. When it comes to details they do them well. My Cobi PT-109 has a full interior and when I was doing the crews berthing area I found a neat little hidden treasure. In that area there is a stand up locker. When putting it together I noticed some small markings on the door. Under a magnifying glass it became clear. 1940's pin up girl posters. Can you believe it ? lol
Him sitting on the deck of a battleship with a little battleship in front of him reminds me of something my dad told me once, that when boys grow up the only thing that changes is the size of their toys.
It's a COBI model i think
I’ve really enjoyed Ryan’s videos over the years. He’s developed his knowledge and confidence and humour. I quite confidently follow him to the top or bottom of the ship.
Breaking a Cobi set. Good one. You can use the Titanic as a baseball bat. Cobi holds together incredibly well
The hull can be used as a murderer‘s weapon of choice, wrap it in barbed wire, call it Lucille, no problem.
But the superstructure will fly in all directions the first time you actually crack a skull with it, so some kind of rebuilding after business has been concluded might still be required.
@@Kref3 just like on the original. The armored citadel will survive
If Cobi blocks had been around in the early 20th century, Hood and Bismark would still be afloat (and WW2 still be ongoing).
Not always. My Cobi Titanic model fell down on the carpet floor from about 40 cm height. It broke into two parts just as the original wreck on the bottom of the Atlantic.
@@herbertblum7704 Cobi is really going for that historical accuracy. Gotta love 'em for that.
We all know Ryan wanted to do this video to show off his cobi USS New Jersey 😂😂
Just finished the Missouri from Cobi, this is a really cool representation of the 1945 September state of the battleship. Even the location of the surrender ceremony is marked with a small yellow dot on the deck.
Thanks for the chance to win! Awesome prize for whoever does win! Goodluck to all!
I got the old cobi Iowa class battleship set and im so jealous of the new one, the old one only came with missouri and iowa parts. the new set also has improved planes, AA guns, barbettes, and more detail in general. really wish i got the new set instead of the old one
I can see this model used in a few other videos... cheers. Ryan
And here I am having just completed one of these models last weekend!
The Alabama has a great scale model showing battleship ranges. They used tubes and lit them from the ship to the splash, describing the distances ...very nicely done.
Normally I speed build those Cobi kits. If I get this one I’ll try savor it and go slow though.
I'm a model builder, and I wonder how many models of the New Jersey are actually on display on the ship today. As much as I'd like to build one myself, it's a long way away given my current project list. Cheers!
Outstanding video
Ryan in a toy shop be like ; "Hey, i got a 1:1 scale model of that BB !"
Congratulations on reaching 1,000 videos!
I make my own Lego models of warships I currently am making a 16 foot model of USS Honolulu
So a range of 23 miles. If that’s the case sitting in the Delaware River I bet they could hit the pa turnpike if the big guns were still active
Better would be to aim for the range area at Fort Dix.
Please do research regarding Kamikoto Knives and Established Titles. They are the same company and are scams. They aren't quality Japanese knives, you don't own any land in Scotland, and they don't plant any trees.
I understand the sponsorship, but I would *absolutely* be more afraid of breaking a model of NJ if it was made out of NotLego™ than if it were a sturdy metal or plastic model, particularly if it was in a clear plastic 'travel case' to protect it from dings. You break the Cobi one and that's a couple hours of rebuild work if the damage is significant enough
Has anyone ever done profile drawings of the ship showing side-by-side comparisons of the changes over the years?
Not sure if this is allowed, but why can't museum ships sell parts that are removed to help finale repairs now, or build enough savings to help for later on.
They do sell the old wood deck, but things like the 5" guns or catapults are long since gone. the navy will have scrapped or re-used them well before putting the ship forward to be a museum.
Believe still navy property
Are you going to take a selfie with it for your online dating profile?
I love to listen to Ryan, because he does not read from any notes or similar, but speeks just freely and natural. Just a sympatic guy👍
That happens when you have an inexhaustible supply of knowledge. Looking forward to the next 1000 videos. :)
I'm planning to do the curator tour once I move back east next summer, I don't communicate well with most people but Ryan talks history like I do so I'd love to geek out with him walking around that beautiful ol' gal.
Cheers!
What would be cool is to build multiple models of the same ship, but from different time periods and display them side-by-side.
Maybe they can release a "refit kit" containing the parts for the Korean War, Vietnam war, and 1980s refits, with instructions on how to swap between them.
or maybe you can use it in a history lesson where there is one model, but different parts are swapped in and out to represent the different eras , and this is all done in front of the audience
They should be releasing a new HMS Hood, Vanguard, KMS Bismarck, Prinz Eugen, Admiral Hipper, Gneisenau and Scharnhorst, IJN Yamato & Musashi that will be on par with the KMS Tirpitz 4839 & Iowa 4 in 1 in terms of detail and quality,
@@nitehawk86 Ive little interest in naval architecture outside this channel, but that absolutely HAS piqued my interest. a battleship through the decades, if you will.
I've actually done that! I've got 2 versions of North Carolina and Enterprise during different parts of the war, they often operated together so wanted to kinda portray their "relationship" over time, if you will. And their various paint jobs, I really love the dazzle camo schemes.
Love it! Ryan is like a little kid playing with his little battleship while ON his battleship!!!
HEH-HEH YEAH!
Was thinking that myself, he does have a splendid job.
I have the older version of that Kobi set! The Missouri/Iowa one, but it doesn't have the turret ring cut out. It is Really fun to build since it uses a different build design than Lego tends to use. They make a ton of great ship models.
Cobi making a building block set of the New Jersey is the best news I've heard all week! Now I just need to find a place in my house with enough space to store it when I build it. I've built a couple of their sets (Renault FT tank and USS Wahoo), and they're a lot of fun.
As ever a wonderfully informative and interesting video. As for Cobi, I've built a few of their ships (Hood, Bismark, Scharnhorst and U-47 so far) and they are absolutely brilliant! Tough as a real battle ship, yet a surprising amount of finesse and detail.
I CAN UNDRSTAND THESE ARE AMAZING THING
I really want to get into Cobi ships. So far I’ve only built tanks
@@slapper360 Try a ship...great building experience.
@@herbertblum7704 I got their Missouri couple months ago. Fun build and every time I look at it I think “damn it’s beautiful”
I really want the Cobi Enterprise but I need to a) find a good spot to put her and b) wait a while as Ive been spending enough money already. Might get her next year though
Please stop promoting the acammer companies Kamikoto and Estabkisged Titles. The knives aren’t made in Japan, and the “titles” are souvenir plots, meaning you do NOT get an official plot registered in the scottish land register, and the titles are BS. I contacted the scottish land register and Im not in it. They told me that Established Titles is a scammer outfit. And the worst is, Established Titles will not refund.
thank you to COBI for supporting the battleship. They are making the USS Arizona for late dec.
Hope there is a picture or Ryan assembling the model of the New Jersey on the New Jersey
I had been thinking of buying the Cobi Hood set
Nah, its trash, to colorful inside
It's wonderful, I have it
@@reaper_guardian_8214 bah humbug if it's colourful
I dont have hood, but the other 8 ships i have are great. warspite and belfast specifically are very well built.
Love yall using a model to show where things are on the ship. You should use them more in your videos!
Submitted my entry. I would absolutely love it if those were carried in the ship store. Cobi makes really nice warship models!
Tanks, too. I built myself a whole bookshelf armor museum in lockdown. :)
Established titles is a scam you guys should stop doing buisibess with them if you havent already, its a real shame theyve sponsored so many videos of yours
Your enthusiasm is so evident and refreshing. The internet and UA-cam can so often be crushingly cynical so to see someone who’s clearly enjoys teaching about battleships and naval stuff is very cool 👍
The catapult launch system is actually quite interesting to me, I always thought they were steam operated, but now that I think about it, it makes sense
Great video. I built a lot of WWII, Korea and Viet Nam because I have family that served in all of them. I always loved the battleships, because they were the heavy hitters and if one showed up, you had to know you did something wrong. I also loved that the guns could fire artillary from beyond the horizon. You would be lucky if it fired at night and you could see the flash and hope for the next 20 seconds, it wasn't aimed at you! I really want to pay to kidnap you for one of the curators tours. I've got a couple ex military buddies that would live to come along. We've done a lot of these tours, like walking through the US Air Force museum and the Udvar-Hazy Smithsonian museum and looked at airplanes for 6 hours. Wives would go do something on their own. Really look foward to meeting you someday.
NGL I clicked for the lego battleship.
I’m a Lego guy but tbh, the cobi sets are rly cool. If you wanted to make New Jersey in Lego, it would take longer so this the only time I like off brand bricks
I used to be pretty hard core into lego only, but honestly cobi bricks are equal if not better then lego in terms of part quality
I don't have any Cobi ships, but I have 5 tanks (Tiger, Abrams, A7V, FT-17 and Mark V Male) and a plane (Memphis Belle), they're really good quality, at least equal to Lego, and they are tough as hell. Once some of these pieces are together, they are together good, you need to really go at it to separate them (which totally never happened to me when I swapped some pieces because I misread the instructions)
I love cobi, ive got 8 of their warships. really good stuff. honestly its better then lego.
Do we get the “Title” of Captain or Admiral with purchase?
Good one
Ryan. I have the USS Missouri which I'm From the state of Missouri. I also have the USS Enterprise CV-6 from Cobi as well
Thanks for going your separate ways with Established Titles. That was such a scam place. Scottish law did not allow for the legal use of Laird/Lord/Lady. They were owned and run out of Hong Kong, lax business laws, and never proved that they paid for or planted a single tree. Komikoto knives are also owned by the same company and are a scam too. Thank you for taking the high road and refusing the money.
Very cool. I was always on aircraft carriers. The Saratoga still had big gun sponsons but the guns had been removed.
have you all responded to the established title scam? i know you remember buying/naming of stars!!!
Gonna through this out, maybe a tablet with a 3D model you can maneuver through and show differences or just reference old photos to show tour groups side by side comparisons.
I have the slightly older version of the Iowa kit, and I’m planning on ordering pieces and building the 1980 configuration
How many of y'all have been watching this channels videos so long you feel like you're friends with Ryan?
congrats on the upcoming #1000th video ryan, libby and crew!!!
youre just having too much fun with that model ryan lol!
You need to stop working with Kamikoto Knives and Established Titles!!
Quite funny to see Ryan playing a bit with the model like a kid.
If Cobi makes a USS Texas I will so buy it...
I wish I had some Cobi kits when I was a kid.
Have you made a video that shows how the 16 inch barrels are attached to the turrets? I'm curious about how they're mounted such that their massive weight is supported from one end but they can still be reasonably removed for repair or replacement.
Funny enough, I bought the Cobi BB Missouri yesterday
Will there be an option to get hold of a Cobi model with the box signed by Ryan himself from the online shop?
"Mommy, why is the curator carrying a Lego kit"?
Cool that the AN/SPS-49 is revo9lving in the background
I love COBI bricks! I got the Missouri.
Hi Ryan will these models become available in the uk?
But wait till you step on it, Ryan ;)
(PS - Lego is a minefield to Parents during 'night maneuvers')
Is anyone gonna tell him about Brickvaults custom lego Iowa Class model? Thing is massive and epic, and you can buy instructions for it!
To recover the planes the ship would be heading into the wind and then turn across the wind creating a slick spot for the plane to land in. They had a large flat skid that they would tow alongside that had ropes fastened athwart for the plane to snag with a hook on the bottom of the float. The plane would land in the slick and taxi up onto the skid and then drift back to let the hook catch the skid, at that point the cable from the crane would drop the hook which would be fastened, and the plane lifted aboard.
Cobi models are great! Glad I found out about them last year
Now for the big question: Does it float?
Ive been too afraid to try with any of mine. In theory they should be able to float for a short period of time until water seeps in, the issue is getting it back out and drying the inside.
love that Cobi ship, I have it at home allso :)
Man those kits are awesome. Might have to pick up the Hood
way better sponsor than scam tittles
What good day to show the new super cool toy! I want one too!
The reason the planes were carried were NOT only to spot bombardment success, but more importantly, they acted as just what they were titled as.. scouts... they looked for enemy fleets beyond the horizon and even acted as sub hunters, for which the Kingfishers and Seahawks carried depth-charges under their wings. Some even carried 250lb GP bombs.
Have always built plastic model ships and I am impressed on the detail of this Cobi model.
4:04 Trumpeter makes 1/200 scale models of Iowa and Missouri.
1000 videos, that’s crazy man! Good work battleship New Jersey!
The most impressive model of an Iowa class Battleship I have ever seen belonged to the Iowa Class Preservation Association and was used by them in lobbying efforts to congress in the late 1990's and early 2000's. This model which was about 4'-0" in length , made of metal and depicted U.S.S. Iowa BB-61 with the most modern missile and secondary gun systems. All nine 16" guns were retained in this configuration and the detail was incredible.
Great video guys!!! Congrats on the 1000th video on the 30th 🎉 cant believe it!
I love the COBI Model.
Y'all missed one hell of an opportunity you know.
Ya shoulda filmed Ryan BUILDING that model!
@ Ryan:
Apart from the COBI kit, is there a specific plastic model you can suggest? I haven't found many available, and most of them look terrible.
Would be kinda eat if there was a obi model around that scale depicting what a modernized Battleship Texas would be like (including being equipped with anti-drone guns).
Or heck, even your own interpretation of a battle-cruiser sized battleship named in honor of Battleship New Jersey. But alas, that won't happen realistically for a long time.
Frankly I think the New Jersey has her bell in a safer place than the Hood's bell was as Hood's bell was positioned over the No.3 15" magazine
Not a good place to put the ship's bell I think you would agree
That's not a Lego battleship..... this is a Lego battleship. Of course, at 25 feet, this one would be difficult to lug around the ship to show us things. Which Lego model is your favourite? Mighty Mo' is looking mighty fine in this video.
ua-cam.com/video/ltanxGEMN_M/v-deo.html
Aha, I think I understand now why my comment on the other day's video (with information about this model, including where to try shopping for it) disappeared. ;)
Why it is so pricey over that Link 260 US Dollar vs. 166 without Delivery though in Germany ?
The original was built when the earth was 1/300th smaller....but luckily after we had evolved out of the black and white era.
I love you guys and what you do. You guys and the folks up in Buffalo are awesome. Also would love to here you guys talk about aircraft carried by New Jersey over the years. ( if you have already apologies in advance.)
Very cool. The model makes it a lot easier to show things and their relationship to each other. And showing the scale of how far it can throw a shell was really cool. Thanks for sharing!
Really impressed with the turret details on the model! I can vouch for the quality of Cobi, I got their Space Shuttle for Christmas a few years ago and it was great to build, and the tolerances are perfectly snug.
@Battleship New Jersey - Ryan, I've been wondering, I've seen fire alarm pull stations in many of your videos. Are those original or were they added during a service refit, or when she became a museum? What other types of fire alarm stations or pull stations were there originally? Did she have those flashing fire lights all her career? If there weren't fire station pulls her entire career, what was the alerting method if a fire was spotted onboard?
You rock bro, your subs are lacking big time. Hope it starts climbing soon to the moon! This dude loves what he does just like dracinifel or however ya spell it
I certainly hope you are done with those Established Titles scam artists. The knife company is owned by the same scam artist conglomerate.
Oh gee nice, more stuff I want but can't spend money on ATM. Cobi gotta look that up....at least.
I miss my old gear, I look sooo ugly now,
The radar antenna is sweeping! 👍
Must be nice to play with your Iowa class Battleship model on the deck of your own Iowa class Battleship 🤨
I've owned Cobi sets since 2015 and its so nice to see how far they've come in recent years and with each new renditions of previous sets they just keep getting better and better!
They also use a floating net streamed behind the ship to "catch" Kingfishers (which had a hook on the float for that).
One limit to float plane use is that they can't land in waves much past Beaufort 2 or 3.
(PS. The company is pronounced "tah ME yah" per Tamiya-san, the founder of said company.)
Cobi Bricks are awesome!! Glad to hear that you discovered them,!!
I have the older Cobi Missouri kit; that was already pretty impressive, but it's really crazy to look at just how much they've improved on that in the two or so years that was in between the release of that and this set here
