Hi J, would this be a situation that's covered by insurance if you chose to cancel your cruise? I'm a wannabe cruiser so I don't know all the rules of things your travel insurance might/might not cover (such as a self-imposed cancellation)? Thx for any help and for all that you do!
You couldn't have said it better, Jamaica (during the day) is quite safe. They walk around with blunts in there mouths and I think they're constantly stoned 🍁 - closet emoji to marijuana I have
It’s not that these places are more dangerous than the urban core of too many of our cities, it’s that people on vacation often walk around not paying attention to their surroundings and walking around carrying expensive cameras and other displays of wealth. Level 2 just says pay attention.
@Shiplife, I live in Jamaica. Like all nations there are places to go and not to go. Come to Jamaica, you'll be fine. That's how I felt about Mexico. I was there in January and had a blast in Costa Maya.
I was thinking about planning a trip to Jamaica for September. I want to go to the Bob Marley museum, Appleton estates, dunns rivers but don't know where to stay
I am actually going to Jamaica in December, to Ochi. Staying in an Air b-n-b in Great Pond Estate. I have traveled to many places, and if you exercise common sense and safety measures, and are not going to those places for nefarious reasons, I.e. looking for drugs or sex, you should be fine.
I will never go back to Jamaica. There were ppl outside of the port begging, the ppl on the charter bus were begging the whole ride to the resort, and then a group of ppl from another cruise line got in a van to get dropped off somewhere🤦🏽♀️ and the van brought them to their friends who robbed 15ppl at gun point then dropped them off a few blocks from the port. They ended all excursions and call all 4 cruise line boats back early bc of their stupidity. Carnival gave us a credit, and it was ppl from a Royal Caribbean Boat who got robbed.
After solo traveling Europe, it’s wild how many countries have similar travel warnings about the US… Its funny to me how we act like you aren’t more likely to get robbed at home, then on vacation. 😂
I just came back from the Bahamas, and we were fine. I never go to Random areas i only book my Exclusions with a cruise line Or a hotel. Keep your eyes open And be cautious, don't let this stop you from Living. If these places was add a level 4II absolutely wouldn't go but it too just like any place Else.
I agree with almost everything you said. For me though, I don't see myself ever booking an excursion through any 3rd party, and not through the cruise line. Maybe it can be pricier? but the peace of mind is worth it to me, such as the guarantee that the ship won't leave without you, your insurance covering you, dealing with trusted sources, etc.
Thanks Jay! Unfortunately, many folks can't buy common sense. Jamaica ALWAYS have Travel advisory at Level 3. I use to go 3x a year since 1989. No incident. Nassau is a new one for me. I've never felt unsafe at either destinations. I say trust your gut and njoy.
The crime in Jamaica is domestic...there is only a 0.01% crime against tourists and this only happens when they venture in certain questionable areas, where they might be robbed.. same as in the US. Tourists are quite safe in their designated areas. Don't cancel your trip
I am going to both, Jamaica in March ( Montego Bay) and Nassau in April, onboard Liberty of the Seas, I will keep my travel plans and go, and take care not to do anything to put myself in danger. I believe have insurance is important incase of emergencies. J please do a video on travel insurance because a lot of us need help in selecting a good travel insurance company.
There are lots of islands in the Caribbean that are dangerous so you should not wander off on your own. There were 2 women that were sexually assaulted in the Bahamas recently when they did their own excursion. You are best to book excursions through the cruise lines for safety issues and also so the boat won't leave you behind if the tour is delayed. Some of the islands I stay on the ship to enjoy the pool are with no crowds.
I go to Cancun area frequently. Fun area and quite inexpensive. I would advise to stay away from pricey resorts and go to Play del Carmen or Puerto Morelos and find a nice boutique hotel or airbnb. The local restaurants will be much cheaper and a lot better than that at the resorts and you'll find more to do outside resorts too.
We’re at Hotel Xcaret this week and is our favorite place in Mexico/cancun area to visit for fun and relaxing. It is an all inclusive resort you might want to try if you haven’t already.
I've had really too bad trips on princess cruises and don't forget you were out there in the middle of the sea and international waters anything can happen.
Also if you booking with a Carnival Cruise one of your destination is Amber Cove in Dominican Republic and Please be aware of your surroundings and take precautions. I saw on a couple of well-established Vlogs on UA-cam like Ben and Dave and many others stated that outside the port you just have to be careful because they know to have crime when it comes to tourist.
The advisory notices aren’t new. They are just “refreshed”. The UK, France, Germany, Italy, etc all have a level 2 travel advisory-the same as the Bahamas.
The only time so far I've been to Jamaica was on my very first cruise (Royal Caribbean) there. It was in Falmouth, and I had a wonderful time with my mom. Of course I can't remember what travel level it was back then. But I was never one to go off the beaten path to do my own thing. Especially in a foreign place outside the US. But I definitely booked an excursion through the cruise line. I wasn't about to ever take a chance on a 3rd party for excursions for my first time (or ever really). But at the end of the day it's just have common sense, be aware of your surroundings, and be safe & law abiding out there while having fun 😊!
Carnival Siprocked cruise sailing now crashed into dock in ocho rios stranding passengers on island for ovr 4 hrs. Changed itinerary and stayed anchored in jamaica waters till today. $300 credit pp
As a diver, you may want to look at the boy "bit by a shark" a bit deeper...He was in a giant aquarium with nurse sharks, one swam under his legs, he got spooked and lost his footing accidentally straddling the shark. However, lately there have been some Bahama shark attacks in the wild, one fatality on a diver and another shark breached the surface to bite the leg (which later had to be amputated) of a diver while climbing a the dive boat ladder
I am 60 but I used to dive quite often in the Bahamas. I can tell you that I saw sharks just about every time I was on a dive. I am glad I am older and don't go in the ocean anymore!
Jamaica has always had issues, haven’t been there in years, but Nassau, I go at least 3 to 4 times a year. I know the area, was a crew member years ago and was there twice a week, but still I use common sense.
Ive been ro Janaica 5 times. Never felt uncomfortable and i dont stay on the resort. What the state department doesnt tell you is,that less rhan 1% of crime is committed against tourists.
