Thank you for this Mr. Steve. Justin was and always will be one of my musical heroes. I saw him over a dozen times and each time was a magical and unforgettable experience. His music helped me through one of the toughest times in my life and continued to help me tremendously in navigating this life. And for that I will always be thankful. I was fortunate to have been able to tell him this a few times when I met and got to speak with him. He was a beautiful soul. Since his passing I have not been able to listen to his music, or anyone singing his songs. Oh Jesus. This song brought me to tears at work tonight. Lost too many friends and family this year. My youngest boy, his name is Townes. Named after one of the greatest songwriters of all time. I think of all the runnin’ and gunnin’ I used to do and all the heartache I put my family through and I recently gained a relationship back with my own father after losing my stepmother. In life we all get our wins and losses, sorrows and glories. Some more of one or the other, and some less. Unfortunately, you have had a lot of both, Steve. Your son touched so many hearts while he was here. Mine included. You know, I remember my dad playing Snake Oil and stuff while growing up, Cop.Rd and a bunch of other songs. To me you are Steve Earle, the musician, probably like Tom Hanks is the movie guy to you - it's like 50% human 50% product. Well, tragic events like these puts things in perspective. Suddenly, for me, you are the human Steve, and not the pop-product Steve Earle. As a fellow human being I just wanted to say I am so sorry for the loss of your son. Having lost siblings myself, where one was an O.D. I know the pain it creates for those who are left behind. Sadly, we are many who know that pain..
