Masimo CEO Addresses Smartwatch Patent Dispute With Apple
Вставка
- Опубліковано 8 лип 2024
- Masimo CEO Joe Kiani says Apple should apologize for copying his company's patented technology for measuring blood-oxygen levels in Apple's smartwatches. A US import ban on certain Apple Watches is set to start December 25. Apple is working on a software fix, but Kiani says that won't solve the underlying patent infringement. He speaks with Caroline Hyde on "Bloomberg Technology."

This is extremely valuable content. The news reporter is very intelligent and the CEO is textbook. He literally advertised like 5 products nonchalantly.
Very good
Nonchalant!? What that even mean 😮

This is a great CEO, he utilized screen time very well.
"maybe it's time they Think Different." brutal 🤣
this CEO is genius using this interview to send a message, make them known what they do and market their product. a true CEO

Before watching this I thought why are these folks going after Apple, but Apple sure screwed this guy.
look deeper into this guy motives.
Apple screwed a lot of companies but Apple silenced them. This time Apple have failed to do so.
What bewilders me is not only the lapse in judgment but also Apple's reluctance to assume responsibility and accountability for their actions. I hope Masimo receives the recognition and deserved outcomes for their efforts, work, and intellectual property.
Welcome to 2023 Apple. Glad to have you here.

It almost sounds EXACTLY like what Theranos was doing where their own blood sampling tech wasn’t good enough, so they were using Siemens’s machines.
Apple is not a medical device manufacturer, Masimo is very renown in this space (their patient monitors and diagnostic equipment are used in hospitals). If you're using Apple's watch to get a ballpark figure of your vitals, that's one thing, but if you need such information with more accuracy, then Masimo and other medical device manufacturers are more reliable.

With their recent patent issue on their watches what could the future hold for the stock? The production halt might impact share prices, given the Apple Watch's significance.

Dude just roasted Apple with their own tagline LMAO.
When i was a university student we worked with Apple II. The success of this computer was it’s open architecture, it was the first computer with slots. In these slots you could put third party cards… Now Apple is a completely closed architecture for every product they make. This, for me, is the reason i don’t like Apple and will avoid using their products. More over: they were once innovative but since at least 5 years their new products are only slightly updates of the previous model. The innovation is not there anymore. Its is a big old dinosaur living of old success…

Masimo, as a consumer of your medical pulse oximeters, I do not want your watch. Please work with Apple and license your technology. You have no chance as a consumer company. Please be realistic.
If your doctor says get this exact watch there might be a market there but I get where you are coming from
The thing is, Apple REFUSED to license their technology. Instead they STOLE from them. Stop supporting Apple man. Fuck Apple.
I agree, but Apple hasn’t even tried to pay them like he said.

This is ridiculous because if a patient has health complications because of “their” technology, who are they going to sue? Apple or Masimo?
Apple, because it is their implementation of the technology in the Apple Watch. As the CEO said, their devices are much more accurate than Apple - Apple has implemented a (presumably cheaper) and inferior version of their tech. If you get an incorrect reading from one of Masimo's devices, then it is Masimo's responsibility.

Apple is big and powerful enough to defend herself. If the aleged behaviour is true, it will be mind blowing. But if there is a settlement, the true will never be able to see the light of public.
Eh, Apple is famous in the tech circle for doing this kind of stuff. I don’t entirely think he is as ethical as he is making it out to be either though.

The Apple watch is a great product. There are many products out there that are similar or do the same thing but I think they need to make sure people aren't exploiting their products. I've bought apple products from small stores, mobile providers and individuals and in all cases I have had issues with password leaks. The watch was SE both I've seen people get on with the Ultra just fine. Watches generally need to function right and also help combat serial stalking. Haylou also was a product I tested and was satisfied with. Phones or watches new or used don't need much apps just the basics to communicate.

Unpopular Opinion: Tim Cook Should Be Fired Over The Masimo Debacle.
Let's look at the facts:
(1) In 2013, Apple met with Masimo about using their technology.
(2) Instead of purchasing the company or licensing the technology, they hired away their top engineers.
(3) Now that Apple has been caught with their hand in the cookie jar, they'd rather remove features from the Apple Watch, hurting customers, instead of buying the company or licensing its tech.
This has all the markings of a petulant child, not a seasoned CEO. This is early 80's Steve Jobs kind of behavior. And that behavior got him kicked out of his own company.

A lot depends on how integrated you are into the eco system. Apple products in general don't make the most sense on their own, it's only when you combine at least 3 or 4 or them together that the ecosystem shines and you get the true benefits. The seamless combination of devices through things like copy on one device and paste on another, airpods switching to whatever device you using automatically in milliseconds, controlling your apple home accesorries and so much more, it really becomes convenient. But it's hard to justify by itself.
@@heyaisdabomb I use an iPhone + mbp and I see the benefit but what would a small wrist screen add, to each their own.
