For All Winwing Products: www.wwsimstore.com/STORE Had a great time using the Winwing Orion stick and throttle, big thank you to them for sending them out for me to try out.
Another good thing about WinWing - they haven't raised their pricing astronomically during this past year, unlike Thrustmaster. When I purchased my WH HOTAS, it was just at $500 USD. Now the throttle alone lists for $799!
And I bought my TMWH set for $299 when it first came out. While it has been a solid HOTAS for over 10 years now, I wouldn't dream of paying $500 for it, let alone $799! Especially with VRPL and Winwing available.
@Faelwolf I don't think it was pandemic alone causing these prices. Interest in PC gaming, and flight sims has gone up a lot. So many people have stepped into the PC gaming world over the last few years And yeah. I don't know why they think that Warthog set is worth that much. I paid like 400 plus tax and shipping for the Orion HOTAS during all of this
Couldn't agree more! Cougar throttle was the only throttle that really fit my hand comfortably and I've never found another throttle that fit so well (I've got kinda small hands).
I have had them for a month now and am loving them. I am a VR user and the fact that the layout is varied allows for the user to memorize which switches are where. Also, they can mount to Virpil mounts with a bit of imagination. Please do a video of the mounting setup you have for the control panels I could not work them out so tacked them onto the Virpil throttle mount. Great video as always.
@@MrFarnanonical He's not an asshole. GS bought all of that stuff, and you're proposing him to give it to you or others for free. Maybe go buy it if you want it instead of begging along with others for free stuff.
I know it's difficult to compare HOTAS - considering Winwig sent you their product, free of charge - but I'm curious to know which you prefer; the Winwig or Thrustmaster, i.e. the pros and cons.
@@Batiatusss i've got an X55 ive been using since 2014, and its on its last legs.. im looking for a replacement hotas, what do you reckon is the nicest unit out there in a mid/high range price point? customs charges are massive here (23% Tax plus customs fees and processing fees) which has put me a bit off from winwig... but i'd like to hear your opinion as a long time Warthog user and now virpil..
@@Batiatusss I recently bought the TPR and they're really good although the brakes don't seem to work on XPLANE even though it's been calibrated. Haven't tried brakes on DCS yet. I know about Virpil and VKB. Will take another look. Thanks.
I have the VKB rudder and gunfighter stick(the one based on the su-57) and I love them. Super high quality. The pedals don’t have toe brakes, but the stick has a brake on it. Would highly recommend.
Nah, it's easy to compare: WH Throttle: is a perfectly respectable bit of kit. Not as functionally rich as the Orion but it does it's job and does it perfectly well. Orion is probably better but those cables' durability remain to be seen, that said Win Wing do generally know what they're doing so... WH Stick: is an outdated, poorly designed with cheap-out bodges, left, right and centre stick that nobody should be buying these days. Orion stick has a modern cam and bearing gimbal, a properly designed metal grip shell (unlike the TM nose heavy abomination that led to a layered-on-top-of-an-already-poor-design bodge) and seems to be liked by all those who have bought one. Summary: don't buy anything that includes the WH stick. If you want a complete western style HOTAS for a similar (without shipping included) price buy an Orion.
I would be extremely interested in watching videos of you teaching some introductory basics to playing DCS. I want to get into it but am having a tough time figuring out where to start.
Well, when you do find out what you want to fly and everything, he has a ton of tutorials on multiple different planes from the basics to advanced parts of the plane.
Your landing gear knob looks cracked like mine was when I got it. It held up pretty well, but they sent me a new one, thankfully just in time, the day mine showed up, the one that came gave up and snapped after about 4 months of use. Only took about a week to get the replacement. I think they are getting the set screws just a bit to tight cracking them. I used the set screw that the original had along with the replacement screw so mine has 2 now just to get more grip with less force being put on the knob, all in all though I’ve been pretty damn happy with my entire WinWing setup
Does this (the throttle mount expecially) make any sense to use in VR? Have a feeling that a 5 way modifier would make for a lot less of blind tapping around and searching for keys.
Wish the stick wouldn’t constantly disconnect when using a hub. Nervous about getting the throttle soon since people have issues with them. but then, hardware looks easy to fix
thx for the video, fyi all of these are way out of my price range, but still, would't it be cool if you had a sort of joystick-cam in your videos??? just an idea, but I think it would be cool!
Question: I tried Warthog Thrustmeter but didn't like it. I am using my Logitech 3d pro again but now DCS will not save the keyboard or joystick binds. Do I need to re-install DCS? I uninstalled warthog but that didn't fix the issue.
Does the setup you are showing work well with the A10 C ? Combat panel ? Thanks - The joystick mount is just what I was looking for - I cant understand why there is no extension for the Orion J stick
Could you give us the height of the stick and throttle in CM? Is it too high for a desktop to use? And what do you prefer? Desktop mounting oder mounting on a chair?
I'm sorry but those wires on the throttle...there is just a point when they are going to fail. No wire harness is designed to take that level of bending for the amount of hours we put into this sim. None. Regardless what Winwing says. That is the one sticking point I can't get over. Maybe they have a replacement if that does happen, but the way it is, there had to be a better solution than that. Yes it's really cool the idea that you can swap throttle heads, but lets see how those wires are in a year from now. The rest of it looks great.
I bought one a couple months ago. The only problem I had with it was the commsv switch broke. They sent one out quickly and it wasn't too hard to fix it.
Hey, I was wondering what the name of the 2 F-18 panels to the right of the Winwing Orion throttle is. I am curious as to what mount it is on so I can have a nice experience in DCS.
Downside to me is that the cr panel and the take off panel has a lot of the same buttons as the Orion2. And since you can't really change the panel writings, you get stuck with (for instance) two buttons that say a/a and two that say a/g. Ofcourse in the app you can change the bind, but you can't change the text on the panel which i feel is a shame.
Etsy has multiple people who have blueprints and have digitized the layouts and measurements so you can get a custom overlay made. Just need someone with a laser cnc to cut you a custom panel overlay you can replace the factory one with. Admittedly you're going to have to take the thing apart to do it but it's an option.
A problem I see on many joysticks is that eventually (integrated) rudder twist becomes a problem - jitter goes nuts. Seems to be always rudder twist. If we drop the coin for these (very expensive equipment), what says the sensors wont have these issues as well, and mean we have to pay again within 1-2 yrs time?
So experience might wary but I think stick twist feature is always an afterthought for the designers. It's typically sensed by a super inexpensive potentiometer. I in fact fixed mine recently by cracking it open and removing excess grease that had somehow flooded it. I don't recommend relying on stick twist at all. From any brand.
You mentioned that you were able to use the fox mount. Did you need a different mount plate for the stick? I current have a round mount plate for the warthog and was wondering if that would still work.
I use those wire connections you saw on the throttle on a scale system we have at work. They kinda suck tbh, the collar holding the metal cover over the connector loosens without any real warning and it falls off and lets the metal body of the connector fall away. Not good connector in my opinion.
Well the wire isn't going to be under any vertical tension since even a the throttle's highest point they aren't being pulled at all, the real question was whether they could stand up to being squished since they're compressed quite a bit while the throttle is pushed to it's farthest forward (full afterburner) position
Anyone got some recomendation for us poor soutpaws stick-and-throttle-wise? At the moment I use a T.16000 on the left and a good gaming mouse as throttle/weapons control/etc., which is also used for mouse view. I feel It´s a decent setup, but maybe I want to level up some day.
For stick you can get a VKB Gladiator NXT which has a special version made for left handed or a Constellation alpha for throttle I don't know of any military throttle setups that are meant to be used with the right hand. Honestly If you train your arms there shouldn't be a problem with using a normal setup, using a HOTAS is an ambidextrous setup so it shouldn't matter what handedness you are
