Great vid! I do wanna offer one small piece of advice in regards to the Crusader's Relics: The armor stand in the priory, where you find the cuirass, acts as a 'storage' for all of them when you aren't using the relics. It also has an unspoken (and perhaps unintended) effect of being a 'reset' of them as well: Whenever you activate the armor stand to get the items back, the game recalculates them, giving you completely repaired, recharged, and releveled items that match your level and skills, including possibly making them light armor if that is your higher skill at that point (heavy armor takes priority in a tie).
That... is an honestly cool unintended feature that might make me wanna play Oblivion as a Paladin again. (I was dumbo and didn't know about the Crusader's Relics when I played it on Xbox.)
15:48 I'm pretty sure you can switch the set's armor type by putting it on the armor stand in the priory to repair it. That also re-does the level scaling, so you can make the armor more powerful as you level up. You're able to use that same set of armor through the whole game if you're not the type who likes switching things out Edit: I just checked on UESP, the armor stand won't change the armor type Edit to the edit: TES Wiki says it does and forum users report mixed results. About the "unfeathered" thing: According to a tale by the poet and explorer Topal the Pilot, there actually were a species of birdmen living in Cyrodiil in what is now known as the City Isle. According to the legend, when Topal and his crew arrived on the island, they learned that the birdmen could mimic the Ayleid language but did not actually understand the meaning of the words. Topal then taught them to speak, read and write Ayleid, and in exchange, the birdmen gave them the 8 isles that would later house the White-Gold Tower. However, I don't think that the "unfeathered" title has anything to do with actual birds, but is more a synonym to "the plucked", or just a fanciful way of saying they were disgraced or quickly removed from their position of power.

There are a number of obligate air breathing fish, typically those whose natural habitats are oxygen-poor. Fish like betas and gouramis have a pseudo lung (pretty sure it's called the labyrinth organ, but I'm too lazy to confirm that) because they typically spawn in short-lived pools of water. Then there's the lungfish, which, as the name suggests, has lungs and must breathe air. Plenty of fish can breathe air in addition to water, as well, like walking catfish and snakeheads, which utilize that ability by moving from one body of water to another if conditions fall out of their favor. In the case of the snakehead, it's typically after they've eaten everything in that body of water and, due to their particular adaptations, has made them a literally invasive species in the US. Pretty hard to stop a fish from walking from one pond to another, so they've slowly been clambering their way into new territory on their strong pectoral fins.

15:30 fun fact, during my first playthrough of the dlc, i actually managed to jump up to where the helmet was with acrobatics and grabbed it, unfortunately it kinda broke the quest and also made it so no matter what i did i was "in combat" with some enemy i could never find even after clearing the dungeon fully and quitting out to main menu and back again.
I love these videos because they're an interesting and unique challenge, the commentary as always if fantastic, but what I really love is the random little lore bits. For future runs you can create a batch file to use multiple console commands. Its easy to create, just make a text file, put all your console commands inside, save it as a bat file then run it ingame. Its way easier and faster to make than to write all the console commands in game and you can reuse it. It works in oblivion, skyrim and maybe even morrowind
I prefer to use the visual cues for lockpicking. If the pin jumps up to the top immediately, let it come back down. If you visibly see it rise, click once it reaches the top.
great video but man i feel the exact opposite way about skyrim and oblivion's aesthetics as far as wandering around goes. i guess my argument being with Oblivion I can look off in the distance and see the imperial city looking pretty and sitting between the lakes that reflect the light, whereas a lot of the time skyrim only really ever gives you mountains to look at in the distance. yeah you get whiterun if you're near Riverwood but...like, c'mon, the imperial city looks way cooler from the mountains near bruma anyway cool video as always gamer, thanks
40:39 Yeah, thats my reaction to seeing this, even after countless playthroughs of Oblivion in my life. Game is 18 years old and still surprises me sometimes.
You was able to make absolutely bonkers build, because damage depends of your current fatigue divided by base fatigue, so simple fortify fatigue spell could (theoretically) double or triple, may be quadruple your damage
How in the hell is that even possible, I was telling myself "let us see if JBN posted a new video, it will surely occupy my life with a fleeting moment of joy" ... And there it is.
Fun fact about the Crusader gear, placing the item set on its armor stand in the basement of the Nine Priory will actually set the armor to have its most useful enchantments and changing the armor type from heavy to light, or vice versa in consideration of your armor level.
Pretty sure, during the Ghosts of the Knights fight, you can hard-rest while your next challenger is being declared, since nothing is actually aggroed to you at that time, and Oblivion will just sorta sit there and wait for you to hear the rest of the dialogue, so you could slam 24 hours down, refill your MP, reset Pilgrim's Path, etc maybe you shoulda gotten a Stone power as well tho
33:49 because they aren't heavy, they are immovable. a curse placed upon gauntlets used to deniy mercy in the god of mercy's temple, only removed by giving mercy to the bloodline that committed the sin. its symbolic.
Love seeing your growth and love your videos. Keeps me immersed in a world that I have a hard time getting back into sometimes, especially with the hopes being pretty low with the next installment
15:30 Im sure it's already been said, but the crusader relics specifically can be placed on a mannequin in the knights priory and they'll rescale to your current level and change armor type depending on which skill is higher
I used to use the mod called "another life" where you start out on a port town in oblivion. You can do all the quests normally, but since it starts you in another town you could do the quests in that town first, which makes a rather nice distinction. I don't believe it added any quests, it just gave you a bunch of character creation choices and leaves you alone.
for anyone wanting to play Oblivion/Knights of the Nine when you get the crusader armor if you place it on the rack downstairs in the chapel it repairs, recharges, and increases its power if you leveled up and are now in a new equipment bracket. This is pretty cool if you want to RP from level 1 as a oblivion is pretty punishing to players who do that.
Another fun fact about electric eels! Their body is like 90% tail. What looks like their head is actually pretty much the whole rest of their body all scrunched up
YES i was just binging your other stuff! i love your delivery and scripts its great seeing someone do gimmick runs and actually putting their personality into it
17:10 In my opinion, I think it comes down to your art and scenery preference. Sometimes wandering through Skyrim is GORGEOUS. When you walk through a forest and realize you are at the top of a hill, and you look down across the landscape and see 2 is blend into two different biomes. *Chef's Kiss* On the other hand, I LOVE lush forest scenery and sometimes prefer Oblivion. All the different colored flowers blending gorgeously together with the tall grass and huge trees like a painting. Oblivion definitely feels like a painting, where Skyrim feels brutal and realistic (if a bit cynical).
Loving this channel a lot - Also, I know it's not the main focus of these videos, but seeing little lore drops and theories as to how truly got-dang weird the universe these games take place in is a treat.
The juxtaposition between 23:36, where we learn it's immoral but not illegal to kill the skooma addicts, and 32:00 where we find out using skooma is not immoral, but illegal throughout the Empire is amusing to me
Amazing video and love your work. I also love that through the crusades of a devout and the ending of the Ayleid threat, your first prayer when you were in danger was to Dagon . Genius joke
Thanks for getting these videos out regularly. I bet it's hard to think of good ideas and then a lot of work to put vids together but ty for doing it. I stop whatever I'm doing as soon as I see you drop something. Keep kickin ass.
Yes! Awesome! I was really looking forward to your next Oblivion challenge. I was just thinking about playing Elder Scolls III, IV or V while every kill must be a soul trap and capture too, maybe forbid using, selling or removing soul gems from inventory also
It's a reference to Swinger parties, where married couples meet up to swap partners for sexy times. An upside down pineapple is often a signal to others that's what's going down
Idk if you know but in a 1v1 against a ranged spell caster in oblivion if you spam A and D rapidly the ai doesnt know how to account for you changing directions super fast and will miss you almost 100% of the time since they perfectly predict where you would be if you kept walking in the direction you were moving when they cast the spell, it helped me out alot in my high elf apprentice sign playthrough (which is a fun glass cannon mage build where you start the game with almost 300 magicka but basically any source of magic based damage instakills you or damn near instakills you.)
You can rescale the crusader's relics by placing them on the armor stand in the priory of the nine and then taking them back. The crusader relics will be light or heavy armor depending on which skill is higher. In the case of both skills being equal the armor will be light.
I don't know if you've seen it but there is a glitch for bound weapons in this game that allows you to keep a permanent bound weapon. You just create a bound weapon (iirc the mace is the easiest one to access), damage it by striking a skeleton or something that can take damage, then you repair it with the repair hammer, and drop the weapon after repairing it until the duration of the spell has worn off. Once you pick it back up you now have a permanent bound item. Works for all of the bound item spells in Oblivion. If im not mistaken though if you create a new bound item without enchanting or modifying the current bound item you've made, it will delete it.
I get the feeling that note about how lockpicking sounds work is related to an exchange we had in comments. Good stuff. Thank you for adding this detail
Fun fact: you can "level up" and change the crusader gear from light to heavy and vice versa by sumoou putting it on the armor rack in the priory and then taking it off. It and Dusk Fang/Dawn Fang are the only items that seem to scale with the player
The crusaders armor is light or heavy depending on your highest skill. Its not set, just put them on the stand in the basement to update them, repair and re-level them. Very handy!
I love Oblivion’s illustrations like classes, spell schools etc. They look like legit illustrations from a tabletop game manual or smth like that. It’s a bit funny how the best art in series goes along with the worst graphic style in the series.
I know this is oblivion. A Morrowind tip, there is an ebony staff that gives levitate for two minutes in a daedric shrine south, south-east of Ald-ruhn. You'll know it's the right shrine if there's a non aggressive ork just outside the door.
fyi if you ever want to do this again in mass, use the bat command in the console. You can make a text file with all the console commands you want to input, you do bat x ( x being your file name) and voila. Setting up the text file would probably be the only pain but it is a minor pain compared to inputting them all one after the other.
Actually theres a much easier way to cheese the locks in Oblivion, if you tap a tumbler up once and then do it again, at a specific timing, while its coming down, and then click, it will always work. I dont really know how to explain it well. But its 100% consistent, you dont need to look at the screen or listen to anything, its purely timing based. You can pick the highest level locks with 0 security skill with a single lockpick and never break it. It actually makes the entire skill useless. And the skeleton key as well.

I love learning about the Elder Scrolls universe, as it's my favourite game series, yet never knew the full details of the creation of black soul gems and their relation to Arkay.
Every one of your videos is a true treat. I feel like I'm getting to know more of my favorite video game world every time you post a video. Also really appreciated that screen dim for when the screen turned white at about 31:40, as you can imagine I watch these videos to wind down and appreciated not being blinded.
25:38 Electric catfish actually get quite a lot of attention in Japan. Most famously, the Great Zapfish in the Splatoon series is an enormous electric catfish that generates power for the city.
I had just caught up to all your videos after I had lost you from my feed half a year ago, quite the happy surprise to see this pop up so suddenly. Love your vids! You're witty, have charm and speak in quite the comforting way- for that, I thank you. I've always appreciated how in-depth in the lore talk you get within the spur of the moment, or when you simply ponder general thoughts that appear while commentating.
Can't wait for more in the future! :D
That Infected Toenail crime was a leap and a half 😂😂😂
6:47 OMG that mudcrab really was more fearsome than you!
4:13 brilliant!
I know you're currently at 99K subscribers at the moment, but congratulations on reaching 100k subs! I discovered your channel about a month or two ago, and instantly got hooked. Keep up the good work man.
if there were a half-elf, half-human who could live and breathe underwater in the elder scrolls universe, would they be called a Mer-Man?
Maybe a Bretgonian or half sea elf and half man
Been watching this guy for a while now but never commented before. I love how much effort you put into your videos and the scripts behind them. Its so relaxing after a long day to sit back and relax watching your videos. Thank you for bringing us this content good sir.
Oblivion is ultra comfy, and I love these playthroughs.
Am I the only one who had no idea you could stare at those people at the arena and get 5 hand to hand levels
If you visibly see it rise, click once it reaches the top.
great video but man i feel the exact opposite way about skyrim and oblivion's aesthetics as far as wandering around goes. i guess my argument being with Oblivion I can look off in the distance and see the imperial city looking pretty and sitting between the lakes that reflect the light, whereas a lot of the time skyrim only really ever gives you mountains to look at in the distance. yeah you get whiterun if you're near Riverwood but...like, c'mon, the imperial city looks way cooler from the mountains near bruma
anyway cool video as always gamer, thanks
Call that dagger Mehrunes' Bic Razor
40:39 Yeah, thats my reaction to seeing this, even after countless playthroughs of Oblivion in my life. Game is 18 years old and still surprises me sometimes.
Congratulations on the 100k. Well deserved
You was able to make absolutely bonkers build, because damage depends of your current fatigue divided by base fatigue, so simple fortify fatigue spell could (theoretically) double or triple, may be quadruple your damage
39:50 "Even ghosts, as weak as they are..." x'D I love the Oblivion physics glitches so much!
Great video! A crazy adventure the whole way :D
How in the hell is that even possible, I was telling myself "let us see if JBN posted a new video, it will surely occupy my life with a fleeting moment of joy" ... And there it is.
This comment is better than ipecac.
Modern day youtube goat uploaded ❤❤
Factually true, and not wrong!
capn't
Man I remember watching my dad get the crusader armor when I was a kid. Oblivions got a special place in my heart even though I’m well into my 20s now
Fun fact about the Crusader gear, placing the item set on its armor stand in the basement of the Nine Priory will actually set the armor to have its most useful enchantments and changing the armor type from heavy to light, or vice versa in consideration of your armor level.
Pretty sure, during the Ghosts of the Knights fight, you can hard-rest while your next challenger is being declared, since nothing is actually aggroed to you at that time, and Oblivion will just sorta sit there and wait for you to hear the rest of the dialogue, so you could slam 24 hours down, refill your MP, reset Pilgrim's Path, etc
maybe you shoulda gotten a Stone power as well tho
33:49 because they aren't heavy, they are immovable. a curse placed upon gauntlets used to deniy mercy in the god of mercy's temple, only removed by giving mercy to the bloodline that committed the sin. its symbolic.
Love seeing your growth and love your videos. Keeps me immersed in a world that I have a hard time getting back into sometimes, especially with the hopes being pretty low with the next installment
15:30
Im sure it's already been said, but the crusader relics specifically can be placed on a mannequin in the knights priory and they'll rescale to your current level and change armor type depending on which skill is higher
What looks like their head is actually pretty much the whole rest of their body all scrunched up
YES i was just binging your other stuff! i love your delivery and scripts its great seeing someone do gimmick runs and actually putting their personality into it
Grats on flinching Sir Ralos to beat the Knights Training!
17:10
In my opinion, I think it comes down to your art and scenery preference. Sometimes wandering through Skyrim is GORGEOUS. When you walk through a forest and realize you are at the top of a hill, and you look down across the landscape and see 2 is blend into two different biomes. *Chef's Kiss*
On the other hand, I LOVE lush forest scenery and sometimes prefer Oblivion. All the different colored flowers blending gorgeously together with the tall grass and huge trees like a painting.
Oblivion definitely feels like a painting, where Skyrim feels brutal and realistic (if a bit cynical).
I can honestly say that I look forward to JBN's video so much. Literally watch each one. They are so good!
Always love it when a new JBN video comes out. Your videos really help my mental health, thanks so much for them!
Yes! Awesome! I was really looking forward to your next Oblivion challenge. I was just thinking about playing Elder Scolls III, IV or V while every kill must be a soul trap and capture too, maybe forbid using, selling or removing soul gems from inventory also
Was the upside down pineapple joke a reference to Prequel: Making a cat Cry the webcomic?
It's a reference to Swinger parties, where married couples meet up to swap partners for sexy times. An upside down pineapple is often a signal to others that's what's going down
Been here since 10k subs and I've never seen a bad video from JBN. Love you man, keep it up!
17:10 absolutely disagree
This nature with that charming OST makes wandering around sort of empty locations absolutely gorgeous
Very handy!
The fact that i never thought about how if people are sick then they are probably just godless criminals was actually a funny realization.
At 8:15 the breakdown of Kynareth with real world etymology was tough
hey thanks for the accurate closed captioning i appreciate the accessibility!
13:00 Yes, someone calls out Oblivion's wonderful lockpicking. I remember learning to pick with my eyes closed after having trouble with the timing.
I love Oblivion’s illustrations like classes, spell schools etc. They look like legit illustrations from a tabletop game manual or smth like that. It’s a bit funny how the best art in series goes along with the worst graphic style in the series.
"it's not an exploit" -> "we need to do some enchanting" yeah ok buddy, all i trust is cold hard steel, none of this hocus pocus nonsense
@31:58 "This can't be good for me, but I feel great."
Isn't a JustBackgroundNoise video without him going on a tangent about canon or fanon ES lore
you know very well you still have a segment of your audience from your runescape days and I appreciate that
I just want to commend you for so vigilantly putting on captions, and I'm not deaf or anything. I just like to read along.
I know this is oblivion. A Morrowind tip, there is an ebony staff that gives levitate for two minutes in a daedric shrine south, south-east of Ald-ruhn. You'll know it's the right shrine if there's a non aggressive ork just outside the door.
By Azura, for some reason I love your NarrativelySpuriousCyborg and how you use him in your skits. Just magnificent.
By Azura, by Azura, buy Azura!
Stumbled upon your morrowind vids. Very well done and your hilarious man. Keep up the great work, I'll be tuning in.
33:40 It's worth mentioning that the damage Fatigue effect from the curse only applies when moving
19:35 lmao I'm thieving vyres while i watch this
Underground Pass jumpscare. You wouldn't have had the Agility to do it this playthrough.
fyi if you ever want to do this again in mass, use the bat command in the console.
You can make a text file with all the console commands you want to input, you do bat x ( x being your file name) and voila. Setting up the text file would probably be the only pain but it is a minor pain compared to inputting them all one after the other.
Great idea, since you could tell ChatGPT to generate the text file!
@@karlk5801 or do it yourself like a man and not rely on lazy garbage like ChatGPT.
