Christmas dinner used to be a massive deal , but as loved ones have passed, it's not as much of a deal. I've started a new tradition of the kids and grandchildren come to our house for bacon sarnies, which goes down a treat.
As a tea enthusiast, I'm kind of jealous that the queen (and, presumably, now her son the current king) has a special/secret blend of Indian tea that only she gets to drink
There's a tea seller on the market in my city (Cambridge) which does a blend called Afternoon Indian (a blend of Assam, Darjeeling and something else I can't put my finger on) that's so good I can't imagine the Queen's could have been much better. It's liquid fucking gold.
It's nice not to have any stress on Christmas day, isn't it! The only visitor I get is the neighbour's cat, and we both get knackered on turkey. Bliss.
I can never tell whether the intros are filmed just pre-divorce papers or pre-coitus. It's a wild energy for sure. Now that I've just begun as a substitute teacher myself, I think I'm beginning to understand the delirium that schoolchildren induce 😂
Just remember that whatever your traditions are many of them probably comes from the old Norse/Germanic pagan celebration Yule (Jul/Juul). Yule father Odin became Father Christmas, Odin's 8-legged horse Sleipnir became reindeers etc. It is still called its original pagan name Jul in Scandinavia btw. Not Christ. And we still have old pagan traditions like hanging sheaf outside the house during Jul for Sleipnir when Odin comes :)
Keep in mind, that is what the press office gave them. I'm sure it is not as rigid and pre planned as they make it out. But that's none of the publics business. However, Stephen Fry had Charles and Diana visiting him at home with friends and knows them at least to some extend.
Many of the traditions and social customs go back to the Victorian age and Prince Albert . Christmas is a bigger thing here with Boxing day and often lasts until the New year as we don't have Thanksgiving . All families have their traditions and it's usually good on tv . It is a holiday so wearing even a paper crown probably seems like work .
Yep, too far, too soon.... I saw the crescent, You saw the whole of the moon :) It's been said, but Fry used to be on adverts for Twinnings Tea Cheers guys!
The Christmases have changed since the Queen died as King Charles and Camilla have all of her family (children/grandchildren etc) along. My Christmas this year is going to be a quiet one - my Sister died just before Christmas last year, so this year I want to remember her and be alone. We are all meeting up for a family get-together a few days before.
If you didn't have Christmas Lunch at Lunchtime you wouldn't have the afternoon to sleep it off before getting rat arsed and going to bed. Lunch at 2:00, sit down to the Queens Christmas speech at 3:00, that's why the question is; what does the queen do after Christmas lunch. Are surprised that it reminds you of Downton Abbey ? Yes Christmas is the same every year, that's what makes it Christmas, and also helps put you to sleep. The BBC obliges by screening the Great Escape every year too. Before they made the Great Escape, the BBC kept an empty slot for it and just showed the test card. If someone forgot anything then Fortnum & Masons would open up to supply it. Imagine the queen charging off in the land rover, with the corgis Christmas day to get the crackers. LOL David For someone contemptuous of tradition you seem to have a fair few yourself, don't forget the queens traditions go back to William the conqueror, particularly the roasting a peasant Christmas eve.. Yes, royal tradition, that's what broke Meagain, she expected it to be about her, and sulked when it wasn't.
I don't think British kings and queens are allowed to wear fake or unofficial crowns-only official crowns that are part of the royal regalia. The Royal Family is also known for following strict traditions, and they rarely stray from them, especially during official ceremonies like coronations. The British monarchy has centuries of protocol and symbolism tied to these events! I'm not a royalist, so I don't know for sure, I'm just guessing.
Right.! Here we go…….he’s not in the slightest bit funny , but he thinks he is, he always talks over the first bit of the video we are waiting to see ( often after 3 or 4 minutes of senseless waffling ), and he laughs at his own “ jokes “ , Aagh .! I’m British so I don’t like saying all this as I know you are making a bit of extra money etc. with your U.Tube channel, but how about just quickly starting every video with your lovely, overworked wife giving us the intro with one of her beautiful smiles and saving us all 4 or five wasted minutes ? ( I have subscribed years ago, and I liked the vid as I always do ) . Disgruntled from Portugal ❤
Just a tad harsh. Wow. I get that everyone has their own opinion and you’re entitled to it. I’m just curious about the overworked wife part. My wife works, helps me with the channel and we both raise our kids but not sure where that comment came from. You would need to have more information on our house life and personal dynamic to make that type of claim
Your little Christmas gift name game sounds tedious. Moreover, you really need to pick up a dictionary, "tradition?" Really? No, you've confused tradition with practice.
I do think the Queen was a genuinely pleasant person and funny, but the traditions and social rules sound so painfully boring and depressing it's perhaps no wonder so many Royals throughout history were considered madder than a box of frogs. Imagine wasting your entire life beholden to an arbitrary schedule of thousands of "traditions" established by people who have been dead for centuries. What an utterly depressing existence of unnecessary servitude.
I mean, the Queen was basically the only person who didn't need a paper crown. She's literally had a real crown :p

The Queen has her own Crown
Twinings is a brand of tea which Fry used to advertise.
The Queen is still refusing to wear the paper hat.

I live by myself so my only Christmas tradition is making sure I'm drunk by lunchtime 😅
Me and you have the exact same Christmas tradition. The only difference is that I celebrate Christmas every day of the year.

The British Royal Family changed its name from the House of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha to the House of Windsor in 1917 Because of WW1

Love the new hair Jodie ❤

The Queen refused to wear the Christmas cracker paper hat because it wouldn't fit over her crown.

Yeah. We usually use them for New Years Eve. But some do them for Christmas too. You can find them in any major store here

why wear a paper crown when you have the real thing.
I am sure the female family members were relieved to not have to spend too much time with Prince Phillip or Prince Andrew.
Or ginger
cheap
