I appreciate that you didn't like it. I'm not going to go too down the rabbit hole other then to say that the majority of fan excitement and audiences loved it. The mistakes that were made are small in compassion to what was delivered. As far as everyone surviving.. I think it was a well played bet because the audience absolutely needs to be emotionally invested enough in a core group to move on from legacy, Sidney, and that is exactly what happened. I think the film did what is incredibly hard to do and it invigorated a fresh story with new characters into a franchise that doesn't necessarily need its original final girl. They deserve the props.. this movie is generating insane buzz and very favorable audience reaction.. it's on its way to having the franchise's best box office. That doesn't sound like something that should end to me lol.
I don't make these movies so I don't really care about the box office. I think this is a tired franchise that has lost its magic and is being kept alive by a fanbase that will like it no matter what. Its ok to like it but my review is of the quality of the film not fan reception or its financial success.
@Nigel Redux I am what I would consider a big part of the fanbase and I did not love Scream 5. I felt Scream 5 had a lot of problems and most of the issues I had with it were resolved in Scream 6.
@Nigel Redux and like I said.. I appreciate your review. It's just a tad hard to sell that something is tired and has lost its magic when it's success is saying otherwise. The buzz around the movie is amazing and that doesn't happen with a film that failed to grab its audience. I heard your points though.
The buzz is there because it came quickly after 5, probably got good marketing, and is capturing this younger, dumber audience. If you enjoyed it, then good for you.
For a franchise that's trying to move on from "legacy characters", they sure love bringing them back and mentioning the older movies quite a lot.

They had the chance to be original but decided to remake Scream 2. College, film school, and a parent out for revenge because their murderous child was murdered.
They had a chance to extend the opening to the middle of the second act, creating a twist once the murderers get murdered. Setting up a new killer. But with the way it ended nothing could save this flimsy story.
For me the characters were forgettable all around.
The opening was clever, intriguing. Went downhill after and never recovered.
I thought I was the only person who thought this movie sucked. The ending was terrible 🤦🏽♂️
I appreciate your review we saw it in the theater and I could not have felt more underwhelmed. I still don't understand how so many people are raving saying it's perfect and the best one yet I think they just like it because it's a Scream movie but if we take a step back the characters are not interesting The Kills are not creative everybody just get stabbed in the stomach 85% of the time the characters make dumb decisions when their life is in danger in every characters flat there's no interesting characters at all. Thank you for being honest I think a lot of people are giving this movie a lot more credit than it deserves
Same, can't stand when people claim these are "better than the original" like in what universe could that be true? Let's not kid ourselves. I honestly think it's mainly young teens hyping up these movies because there are a lot of fan service moments, modern lingo, and ability to form parasocial relationships with the celebrity cast.

Loved 4. It aged well imo. 5 is entertaining enough. 6 had its moments but flew off the rails the last 20 minutes or so. A certain ghostface actor’s overracting was annoying as hell. And Kirby who was so great in Scream4 seemed like a totally different character here.
Kirby felt completely forced in. I don't like Scream 4 but her character was definitely better in that one.
Liked the opening,directing and Sam.
Writing was terrible. Kirby terrible FBI Agent. Along,with the rest of the FBI,cops,and media. No one looked and could find Ritchie's family? Incompetent,far fetched and illogical.
No one died that we cared about. Chad a cyborg?
Brutal Ghostfaces who are useless and die easily at the end.
Ethan stupidly saves Mindy.
Gale character development trashed,and her dumb decisions when attacked.
Ghostfaces acting appalling in 3rd act.
A disappointment.
Too fast and too many cuts, that's the same problem 5 had. TBH Amber and Richie's kills were way more brutal imo these were the worst kills I don't see what's so special about them. They barely utilized new York and Kirby/ Gale were tossed to the side.
Scream 6 sucked the 3rd act was so corny

I'm so mixed about this movie because there were some things that I really loved( like the opening and better writing for Sam's character) and things that I didn't love ( like the overuse of meta references in life-threatening moments and unnecessary plot armor). Overall, it gave me what I wanted and more as a horror movie, but as a Scream movie, it had the potential to be so much better.
I still don't know how to feel about this movie why there were things I liked there are also things I didn't like a great example how they had do severely dumb Gale weathers down to put her in danger
The opening made me think they were going to do something really different only to play it as safe as a screen movie ever played it safe before
And no slasher movie has any business having this many survivors

I actually enjoyed the movie just some mistakes that they made with this one. I feel as though they could’ve killed off chad bc he got stabbed to the point of no return. Also the killers reveal wasn’t my favorite because they basically tell us that Ethan is the killer. A lot of potiental in some of the lead up to the reveal. Gale didn’t have so much screen time as well, But besides that I enjoyed the movie.
I wish they did more with the true crime angle and the conspiracy that Sam was the real killer while they saw Richie as a victim. I thought the reveal would be all those crazy Redditors planning an attack on Sam to avenge their own hero or something, the secret family revenge thing was boring. And literally no point/commentary is made about anything as a theme, even the reveal is a rehash of basic revenge. And Sam being inspired by Billy Loomis is just bizarre, her being all stabby with the killers seems like it's edgy for the sake of making her look cool and honestly me and my boyfriend were laughing so much because the stabbing looked so damn fake in that one scene with the cop.
Definitely agree with the conspiracy point. That was such an interesting concept and it was dropped really early on.
This is the best review I've seen so far. Most of the other reviewers are super fanboys of this franchise and are saying this is a near perfect Scream movie and a masterpiece SMH. This movie was so stupid, and the over-the-top plot armor these main core characters have is just plan ridiculous. Even Sam and Tera get beat up and stabbed in this and they just walk it off at the end. It was more realistic in the last movie where Tera had to get out of the hospital to escape Ghostface and she is in excruciating pain with every movement she has to make because of the stabs she received in the beginning of that movie. The Chad and Tera pairing was really forced and dumb too. He had no interest in her at all in the last movie and now all the sudden he really likes her and vice versa. Your review is spot on, and this movie was nothing but disappointing to me. Thanks for actually giving a critical review for this.
And there’s a problem with being a Scream fanboy? I don’t consider myself a hardcore Scream fan, but for me, this movie is a perfect Scream sequel!!! Agree or Disagree with me, I don’t care.

I just want to steer away from reviewers that I know are extreme fans of the franchise because I feel their reviews of this movie will more than likely be biased in favor of it no matter what. I search for more honest critical reviews if possible.

Very accurate review and assessment! I agree. Great marketing... mediocre film. Pains me to say it, as I love the first two films and the idea behind them. There's still life left in Scream and Ghostface, but they're running low on fuel.
Hate Mindy, hated the villain reveal and hated that they teased a way cooler angle of knowing who the killer is all through the film and seeing a movie from their angle and quickly took the rug from under.
People are inhuman to the point of comedy. Getting stabved in the chest is something you can walk away.

Complete agree: This movie was a big, huge, steaming garbage fire of a film. It really was pathetically done. I get it, the scream films are supposed to be corny and silly on a certain level. But they at least have to be thrilling and have some kind of point. Talking about the plot points, breaking the fourth wall and having the plot TOLD TO YOU BEFORE IT HAPPENS is not a technique, it is just mind-numbingly stupid. I don't blame the cast, who could possibly say these lines or act through these set pieces and not look hokey or moronic. It was probably in my top five worst films I have ever seen in my life. The first scream film was a template that it seems EVERY OTHER SCREAM MOVIE HAS TO APE. Not mock, not refer, but simply copy beat for beat. JUSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTT AWFUL!

It seemed to me that Kirby and Gale were just kind of forced in this one so I didn't care about them as much as the new characters. The new characters other than Sam and Tara weren't great to me either though so it doesn't really matter. I agree that the opening was really good but after that it just becomes about gore and lazy tropes so I didn't care at that point.
That Kirby, Gale, Mindy, and Tara were all stabbed and came back is annoying. I am with you on that. Billy Loomis was the only fake out death in the original but it was relevant to the plot, unlike the other fake out deaths which served no purpose.
LOVE this video, dude! New sub! I’m so happy to hear from someone who agrees with me on this franchise. The first three Scream movies were the best.
Part 4 isn’t a proper representation of a remake, because it revolves around the same cast and thus defiles the trilogy dynamic.
Part 5 has a boner for Rian Johnson, even giving Dewey the complete Luke Skywalker treatment. They ruined his character before killing him. The idea of going after toxic fandom while seemingly DEFENDING Hollywood’s most obnoxious modern tropes actually makes it more of an anti-Scream movie.
Scream 6 I actually love, but not for the reasons you’d think. The first two thirds of the movie are halfway decent, then the final act is so bad it’s good. Seriously, it gets so outlandishly stupid I can’t help but laugh. I was frustrated yesterday, but this is where I’ve settled two days later: this movie is GOLD.
Agree 100% though, they need to let this franchise die.

@@ttanza4004 I usually like a few in the series like with Scream. Like Halloween, Nightmare on Elm Street, and Friday the Thirteenth. I also like the original Texas Chainsaw Massacre. These franchises always just keep going until I just don't care anymore though.

I agree i was annoyed that basically everyone survived. And what I want to know how the hell did Mindy survive when she was with Ethan who was the other ghost face!? And why was she there at the end? If she did survive she should be in the hospital. Even though I went NOO when chad was killed, he should have died. The old screams actually showed the level of grief that is experienced when someone dies. How tf can we take the violence seriously if it doesn't even end up being fatal.

Billy and Stu's motivation never made sense for anything beyond Scream 2. Killing Maureen Prescott.. okay. Mom takes revenge over son's death? It happens. Sydney's brother is the mastermind? Uhhh..No. There's not enough story for 6 movies.
Tha's why these movies are all the same. Killers are always white. Stabbing only kills when the script calls for it. It was never intended to have sequels.

We're fans and we're going to keep watching Scream movies, but yes, it was ridiculous how they all survived their injuries. Although we liked him, Dewey go stabbed in 1 and 2 and survived until 5.
It was bad with the legacy characters at times too, but now with this new crop of characters it has reached absurdity levels with all of the core characters getting stabbed in each movie and basically just walking it off at the end like it never really happened.
It has gotten so much worse now though. Dewey at least had a messed up arm and a limp. These characters brush off fatal wounds like they aren't even human.
Film non perfetto, ha degli errori, tuttavia il film scorre velocissimo e la storia è molto coinvolgente, c'è molta alchimia tra i personaggi, e questa cosa ha giovato al film, una cosa che ho apprezzato pochissimo, troppa gente sopravviveva.

5 and 6 are the zoomer versions that are trying to capture the younger easily offended audience, while throwing a lot of member berries/nostalgia at you, and bringing old characters back in the hopes the old fans all come and see it too.
The ending is terrible, the characters are insufferable at times and so is the dialogue.
