22:18 - The Kings need forwards with length and size. No doubt about it. Those are the most difficult players to acquire though. Here are a few players Monte tried to get and what happened: + John Collins - Early in Monte's tenure, he had trade agreed upon for John Collins (Barnes + protected first) but ATL ownership backed out. + OG Anunoby - He clearly wanted the Knicks (hence CAA representation) and not Sacramento (per Jake Gadon). He was traded for a former #3 overall pick and a runner-up young 6th man of the year. The Kings equivalent would have been Keegan Murray and Malik Monk. I can't blame Monte for not doing that trade for an excellent but expensive and injury-prone forward. + Pascal Siakam - I think a trade was more or less agreed upon based on Shams reports but Siakam didn't want to come because the Kings wouldn't pay him max money like the Pacers. + Lauri Markkanen - Matt George said he heard they put 4 firsts on the table for him. Locked on Jazz host David Locke said the Jazz had "cajones" for the offers they turned down for Lauri. Jake Fischer said the Kings were very close. Jazz clearly wanted to keep him. + Mikael Bridges - He went for 5 picks and a pick swap. He hasn't even been an all-star. Kings don't have this equity anyhow. + Free Agent forwards - What young millionaire wants to come to a small city with high-income taxes? Every free agent signing is an uphill battle for Sacramento. + Draft - You could make case that Monte should have drafted Moses Moody over Davion as he was in the projected range. Trey Murphy and Jalen Johnson were not projected to go in the lottery. Olivier Maxwell Prosper? He hasn't done anything. I don't see many players Monte has clearly missed on. In order to get our current best forward in Keegan, the Kings needed luck to jump into top 4 of the draft. Point being getting forwards with length and size are very hard to acquire and I don't blame Monte for not having too many of them. Every team needs long and athletic forwards. Not many teams are giving them up and not many are signing as free agents with Sacramento.
Great points and very true.. Monte obviously has his hands tied on some deals because he works for the Sacramento Kings. Some players just will not make that move even tho Monte has a deal in place for them.
IMO Vivek's mindset is that he believes in the front office, which I really don't, and he believes in the roster to a point and rather than blowing it up, give the team a chance by acquiring some roster help and that making the playoffs will still be possible! Anything could happen, making the playoffs is unlikely without a phenomenal addition to the roster. What I mean by phenomenal addition are elite long athletic forwards that can actually score and that is something that the entire league desires and I am not confident the front office can acquire.
A rebuilding team is cool when you have young promising talent. Look at that one Joerger year. Its not when the roster is 2* young players and over the hill veterans just getting their last money before calling it a career.
The Kangs reputation will never change as long a Vivek owns the team A big benefit realized when hiring Mike Brown was a quantum shift in the culture of the organization. Not only did the record drastically change, but so did the perception of the Kings. The laughingstock reputation was under repair with the organization showing some consistency and successful drafting of players, but it would take more time to fully remove the stigma. Moves like firing Mike Malone out of the blue has led to the Kangs reputation along with clueless moves like drafting Marvin Bagley. We thought that the dysfunction had reached a new low and then this firing of Mike Brown happens. Not only did they fire him after having him hold a practice and addressing the media, but they did it like a coward and let him drive to the airport and fired him with a phone call! No balls or integrity! He deserved better than this! I have been critical of Mike Brown’s performance at times with his use of challenges and puzzling rotations, but I did not want him fired. He deserved better than this, just like Mike Malone did. I truly feel had they stayed with Mike Malone the Kings would be in a better state right now, but that is for another article. What message does this stupidity send to the league’s players and coaches? If I am a respected experienced NBA coach and I am not currently employed and there is an opening for the Kings head coaching position, I am not considering applying! If I am a new coach or a coach that has not been sough after for some time, I am exhausting all other opportunities before defaulting to taking the Kings job. What kind of quality will the Kings get with their new coach? As much as the fanbase should appreciate Vivek from saving the Kings from moving, he has damaged the team more than helping afterwards. It is analogous to saving someone’s life and then making them a slave until they die! To have any chance of attracting top coaching and player talent, the reputation must be repaired and consistent and this will NEVER happen until Vivek no longer owns the team!
@@SkillMentorSecurity Mike brown knew what kind of organization he was dealing with due to their reputation for firing coaches. He didn't care so long as he got paid. I expect Mike Malone to get fired soon because of his performance in Denver of late. If you want to coach for one year but get paid for three, then Sacramento is a desirable spot.
Monte isn't the guy for the job he has. Squandered draft after draft and can't construct a balanced roster. I don't trust him to make another draft or get a solid trade completed

I'll summarize it right here, if players can't be coached you have the wrong players!
Mike Brown has continually lost faith in Len as the backup 5 for three years and McNair STILL made him the only viable option going into this season.
