THere's one on Reverb right now for around $23k USD and it's in Europe - Alex, he is looking to trade for some stuff. Batter up? (that's a American phrase)
@@station2station544 found another on reverb for $29k. Is it because of the rarity that they fetch this price? Seems pretty high. it is an amazing instrument, though!
@@SuperCashed Well the TwoVoice they only made roughly 500 units. The 4 voice like this one, WAY less. So rarity and unique sound. As you know the Jupiter 8 they made many thousands of, and they can fetch over $30k. I had one and it's a great synth but people are on crack :). I sold the last TwoVoice on reverb. I loved it but the money I got was absurdly high.
Yes these 4 separate mono synths sound so so satisfying. Much more organic and gorgeous sounding than even.the prophet 5 Jupiter 8 , CS 80 , &Synthex to my ears for what it’s worth.
Great demo, wonderful synth! So great to hear an actual 4vce! The 8vce was also used on Bill Withers Grammy-Hit "Just The Two Of Us" had one, AFAIK. Ed Walsh (who played with Styx, Bob James, Dave Grusin, John Lennon, Roberta Flack, Lee Ritenour...) played an 8vce in Grover Washinkton Jr.s classic album "Winelight", too. Will Gregory of Goldfrapp loves his 2vce. Happy to own an OB-1, at least. :-)
Nicely done. I truly believe that this is one of the best analogue synths ever created. Wonderful design layout too. I have the iPad app, and it’s likely as close as I will ever come to owning one. Cheers.
I found you guys because I bought a Jupiter 6 and may want it serviced/calibrated/recapped soon. Then I saw your website and this and some other ridiculous synths... Oh my. So I googled and voila! THANKS for actually playing it! And I agree- best demo ever... Good to be in SoCal near synth lunatics like you LOL...
Just discovered your channel and love these classic synth demos. Thanks for giving us such a great representation of these classics. This demo is absolutely amazing and is my favorite. I'm really wanting a SEM now!
Is it correct that the Oberheim Four Voice was Dennis DeYoung's weapon of choice on STYX's "The Grand Illusion" (1977) album? Always wondered what he used for those epic synth leads during the solos on "Fooling Yourself" and other tracks....
Wow, cool beastie. Do the SEM voices have specific note priorities? Like high-note, low-note, or something, that you could use to do multi-timbre polyphony in a sensible way?
I’d pay good money for an entire album of this. Was lucky enough to find an SEM Pro recently and I’m thinking of recording 4 midi tracks to run through to fake a four voice. Any more sound demos??
I have one SEM Patch Panel. A very lovely and awesome piece of synthesis. Tell me please 'cause I've never come across one of these beasts irl. How long does it take to change patches on this? Does it have some kind of programming macro functions or is it simply each knob for it self?
@@foreverseethe ~20 years ago. $2500 About the same time I sold my 2600, P5, P10, VP330, MM+, PPG2.3, 2500, OBXa, Matrix12, 2 Chamberlins, AKS, VCS3, Odyssey, Quadra, Minimoog (one of several), MonoPoly, MKS80 w/MPG, Source, RMI 300B, Trident II, and many more. My thought at the time.....these old keyboards are such a pain.
This thing sounds incredible for a 40 year old machine. Does it suffer from oscillator instability issues and detuning like earlier modulars and ARP machines did?
InflatablePlane most definitely do, but we have modified these to be much more stable. This one has only needed tuning twice in 2 years, and very minimal at that
Unlike most synthesisers this series never lost any value. Dollars wise I used to see jp8s going for 1000. Even a prophet 5 for 2000 wasn’t uncommon. I’ve seen Juno 60s go for 200 and I nearly bought a prophet 600 for 150. It had a couple chipped keys and missing knobs. I avoided it because it drifted out of tune🤣. All that said the ONE series that I’d never seen fetch a dime less than it’s original price was this Oberheim series. They’re stunning.

Was literally just thinking that too.

That sound... just unreal. Refreshing hear a vintage synth demo that isn’t just arpeggiated detuned saw waves for 10 minutes. Amazing!

yes yes yes, more of this yes! Thanks for letting me try it when i took my Xpander in!
The Oberheim Four Voice and ELKA Rhapsody String Synthesizers were used by Supertramp
By the time I became even aware of the brand Oberheim this synth had long passed into unobtainium territory.
nah bro, just refinance your mortgage

The nicest sounding demo of this synth that I heard. So lush
It's sooo bloody musical. Thank you Tommy OBX!

This was the real Yamaha CS-80 competitor!! In my opinion;)
Hopefully this is reissued, pure magic!!
Yeah especially since I'm only 17 and I'm actually impressed that over something that could sound so timeless despite being from 1975.
This is one of the most incredible demos I’ve ever heard !bravo!
This is why i love Oberheim synths so much!
The best demo of this analog synth. Prince used this on his first lp soft and wet thru 1983
Interesting. This looks like one of the main instruments used in the Mass Effect Sound Track. Very cool!
I am deeply in love with this machine since i heard Jan Hammers -The first seven days-. Best synth album ever!
Stunning! It's so alive and you demonstrate it beautifully!
That is so beautiful! Thank you for this post. Wish I'd seen it sooner.
Anything Prince used and loved is my favorite!!;)
can you tell me when and on what album he used it the most ?
