Nice bit of kit, loads of possibilities, may grab one… but, white? Really? Black or dark grey, though typical, would have been better for bikers. Thanks for review!
Philip Bloom 3h · The Insta360 GO 3 has just been announced and the amount of sponsored videos, many from very high-profile people, is mind-boggling and a huge turn-off for me as a viewer. Why do these companies still do this? I’ve been testing the camera for more than 4 months on and off. There were lots of problems which meant most of that time was spent waiting for firmware updates. In the end, I turned down a sponsored video as I just can’t recommend it, certainly not at the price it’s being sold at. For me, a sponsored video is an endorsement and I don’t take that lightly. I am also not going to review it as there are too many negatives to make it a pleasurable video-making experience. So you have this post instead! I really love the tiny size of the GO cameras, it’s literally the main selling point. The new one is a little bit bigger than the 2 but the new charging case is a lot bigger. Instead of the clamshell one of the 2 you get the action pod which looks like an action camera with a space for the Go 3 camera to snap into with a flip-up LCD screen. This has a much bigger battery than the old case but has no actual storage in it, that’s all in the camera which you choose when buying. 32, 64 and 128 GB, the price range for those is $380 to $430. Whilst it’s nice to have a screen on it, using it like this is against the whole point of the concept. Plus the image on the screen is poor as it’s via Bluetooth even when hard connected, constant break up, very laggy and frequently very blocky. The overall quality of the video image is slightly better than the GO 2 but nowhere near as significant an improvement as it needed to be. You can shoot 2.7k now with built-in stabilisation but shooting that way is not as good as choosing the stabilisation in post as well as the aspect ratio and field of view; when shooting in that mode, it’s still 1440p. The only positive I can say about this is they have added a sharpness setting. This helps, but it’s not a good image off of that sensor so it’s a bit mushy at low and the compression is atrocious; even Topaz was struggling to bring it to life. When it’s mounted in action pod, it looks like any action camera and the image fairs so badly against the GoPro 11, Action 3 and even their own ONE RS 4K boost. It’s more expensive than most of those too and also doesn’t have removable storage or replaceable batteries. I wish they hadn’t gone down this design route and had instead improved the battery life with a slightly bigger clamshell, but mostly worked on the image as it needs it so badly. In 2023 it really should be way better than it is, and at those prices too. Also, the audio is still mediocre and even in the action case you can’t plug a mic in. I hate being negative, and I really wanted to love this, but nothing I shot on it felt good enough. DJI had a decent idea with their modular Action 2, but it was plagued with overheating. They dropped that design and returned to the bog standard action camera design. I wish they hadn’t, as it had such potential, and the image is SOOOO much better than the Insta360 GO 3. I really like the guys at Insta360, and like most of their cameras, I even made an actual sponsored video on the Insta360 One X3, as it really impressed me. I think that video is the best one I made last year despite being sponsored, as it’s ridiculously creative, so please watch it if you haven’t already. So I guess that’s my review. If you still want to watch the hundreds of videos about it on UA-cam, then be my guest! 🙂
Wait, what... you're saying Philip Bloom considered those who might be spending on something over and above his own money-making opportunities?! Thank goodness there are still influencers like that out there! I too have been very impressed with Insta360 kit, and use it regularly to capture riding footage for the videos I do. We had one on review (though never did affiliate links or took sponsorship), but it was ruined when it fell off a bike during a shoot and scratched both lenses, so we paid for a new one from a local retailer. I'm obsessed with giving in-depth, honest reviews, but I'm also in the lucky position of being paid a salary by an insurance company to do that; our agenda is brand awareness. Everyone's opinion is valuable, but I also think that transparency is vital. Thanks for posting that text up! John, Consumer Editor
Lots of UA-camrs use the Insta360 or GoPro but is this what you would use for a vacation ride ? I seems battery / memory is limited with those cameras as opposed to a "dashcam" type setup. I plan a Baja ride and would like to do some video of riding down the coast.
Honestly I think you’d end up with so much footage from a dash cam that you’d never watch it all bike. For most rides we use the X3 360 camera which allows you to take one shot and then reframe it to get a bunch of different views. That’s probably what I’d go for on a trip, or this Go 3 makes a great option if you want to vlog off the bike as well
Fantastic review. I have the Go2 and it is my social media camera of choice on the bike. The v3 looks to just improve in every way. Do you know if the old motorcycle frames fit the V3 (as in is the V3 pill camera the same size and just the case that has changed)? Cheers!
I wouldn’t - it’s a super handy little feature but for on the bike footage I’d use the action mount to be safe. It’s still a great helmet cam though cos it’s so lightweight
Much like any action cam there’s quite a bit of wind noise just because of the camera’s position on the bike. You can minimise it by having the camera in the cockpit or somewhere like that, but if you want really good sound with any action camera you have to capture with a separate mic and sync in post
What kind of mounts it required for those creative shots the on the pannier ? I just got a insta360 go3 this angle is cool! Would like to try out but not sure what kind of mounts. I got myself a motorcycle bundle too
Does seem interesting. I currently have a GoPro on my helmet chin, after long rides it really gives a sore neck from the weight. This looks like it could be great alternative. Just have to sort out the audio with something else.
I’d like to get it once it has a built in micro sd card slot and usb c port , no additional pod needed. Then I could use it’s small footprint advantage better
Not that there's anything wrong with it, but it isn't a review, it's an advertisement 100%

I have the go2 and use it for almost everything including my kids birthday parties, or simple strolls on the park. On the motorcycle, The GO2 has a mount that "glues" to any flat surface, and I have used it to record... well all of my rides that you see on my channel... and it handles perfectly riding at speeds above 100km/h. :D ... Well... almost... I already lost one :P. my fault... once I was going out and did not check if it was glued properly, after one week the mount being on the motorcycle, that was the confidence level I got used to... This 3 version takes care of all of my gripes of the #2, that was exactly the charging thinggy was meh... was really just for charging... it is 100% phone dependent, even to see the battery level or the available capacity and pairing it takes Bluetooth/Wifi long times. The 32Gb of the cheaper model is still low, and it does not extend when in the box... so shucks... specially now that it records on even higher resolutions... if possible buy the bigger one directly. Also...there is no linux version for their software... but I guess Linux users are already used to that. All in all... It kicks GO PRO cheaper versions hands down.
You are impressed by 45min battery? I shoot for 5.5 hours straight at 1080p 60fps @60MBit/s and still it's not enough because I have to change the sd card as my current action cam max out at 128GB. For what it can do, the go 3 would have had to cost 100$ max ...
Rare that I'm so excited for a product that is in a sponsored video. The concept of this camera is truly astounding!
I have the Insta360 X3, and it is nuts. Now, this Go 3 looks like a great complementary tool. Gonna get one now!
Mind-blowing camera, mind-blowing shots 🔥
Why is it branded as a 360 when it’s not
Nice bit of kit, loads of possibilities, may grab one… but, white? Really? Black or dark grey, though typical, would have been better for bikers. Thanks for review!

That horizon view is a beautiful feature

I'm sure I've seen this cam mounted inside the helmet attached to the liner next to the riders eye?
Held in by magnet
Your gear aesthetics are amazing. We need a feed or a video on your gear combinations.

I have a question. The port need to be around? Then only the tiny camera able to do recording?
@03:31, can I permanent attach those sticky mounts in different parts of my motorcycle?
Where do I buy it from?
Same bike, how does the camera capture photos. Say your running in the Rockies and want to get that unbelievable shot of the snow capped mountains?
Nobody talks about the wind noise in the videos while riding?
🤦Just use something else to record the noise, if you’re even able to use this camera, you should be able to do that too.
What mount inside the helmet
Does the Insta360 GO 3 have a QuikCapture function similar to the one of GoPro? record button doubly function as a power button
can it connect to Bluetooth mic intercoms?
I don’t believe so - you’ll need the X3 for that
Is the magnet strong enough to have the camera mounted magnetically on the chin of your helmet?
I wouldn’t - it’s a super handy little feature but for on the bike footage I’d use the action mount to be safe. It’s still a great helmet cam though cos it’s so lightweight
Longest advert I've ever watched but I want one so I guess it worked..
Great video, what's the wind noise like when on bike in the video?
Much like any action cam there’s quite a bit of wind noise just because of the camera’s position on the bike. You can minimise it by having the camera in the cockpit or somewhere like that, but if you want really good sound with any action camera you have to capture with a separate mic and sync in post
@@motobob Thanks for the reply!.

What of triumph bajaj bike launch. It was supposed to be today in London right. Any updates on that?
Does seem interesting. I currently have a GoPro on my helmet chin, after long rides it really gives a sore neck from the weight.
This looks like it could be great alternative.
Just have to sort out the audio with something else.
Glad I wasn't the only one, I have a DJI action 3 mounted on my forehead, but after a while, my neck is very sore
Is the action pod also waterproof ir bust the cam alone?
Might be the upfollower for my gopro 7 as a chin mount ,next to my insta360 x3 ✌️
is a full goldwing review coming ?
Wonder how long will it take to get it in black :)
On my GoPro I have a setup to allow an external mic. Does this allow the same thing?
Looks like a great product!
Awesome!!! Same mag mount as Osmo Action 3?
Looks like a very similar design but from the pics I think they’re different sizes 🤷♂️
Looks class, and ABR footage with it?
Afraid not but I’ll take it next year 😁
Insta360 is already good but it just got even better. I'm sold!
Mounting it in two place interchange between helmet & the windshield of the bike.
I’d like to get it once it has a built in micro sd card slot and usb c port , no additional pod needed. Then I could use it’s small footprint advantage better
woww , i need one right now!
Good review Bob

extraordinary. wow.
So this Insta360 isn't a 360, right?
Right!

What about the mic wind noise?
Same as any action cam - out in the wind you’ll always get a lot of buffeting. So for really good audio we record with a separate mic and sync in podt
i want those boots 😅
I have been using the go2 for ages now and it works really well
Superb video, nearly as good as Fort Nine! lol
I want that bike
That's decent
Tell me your address, I would like to steal that Gold Wing. Leave the back door open please. I 've seen all the colors but this one is the best.
Nice
GoPro had better B concerned!
I had one … nice camera… but the wind noise during motorcycle riding is pretty f*cked…
It’s not a 360 camera then.
👏👌
