It’s incredible how much wonderful fiction that Robert E. Howard produced during his short 29 years on this planet Edit / correction: I was mistaken, he was a few months past his 30th birthday when he passed away
Absolutely amazing - prolific, endlessly creative and pioneering, basically inventing the 'sword and sorcery' genre ... and heartbreaking how he died so young 😢
YES!!! Thank you for your dramatic reading of "Worms of the Earth"! This is one of my favorite Robert E. Howard stories! Bran Mak Morn is a very underrated REH character.
This amazing, inspired story possibly sheds much dim light onto the dimmer history of the Picts and prehistoric Alba dhubh. The worms of the Earth indeed! A gem and so well read!
Crom's teeth! Thank you Mr. Gordon and Horror Babble! You do great justice in narrating Robert E. Howard's works. Excellent as always. Until next time.
The opening music was enchanting. The visual is quite striking. And, of course, the story was amazing. It was suspenseful. Great narration. Thank you 🌟🤗❤️
An excellent story and an excellent read my good sir! Bran Mak Morn is one of these characters I’ve heard referenced a bunch but have never read the tales of, so thanks for showcasing this in your awesome style and I hope we get more🤙
Excellent narration of an amazing story. Got to appreciate the unexpected twist on exactly *how* the king secures the aid of the witch after death threats and bribery don't work. Sometimes a woman is just lonely and has certain *ahem* needs.
Great work, as usual :) Thank you once again for so courteously replying to my queries about a year ago, when I was a complete noob trying to get my channel properly established. Your kind responses were extremely helpful at a pivotal time, and I'm so pleased to see your channel continuing to go from strength to strength.👍
I've said it before, but since you bring it up HB really are great community leaders. They've been invaluable to me as an author. It's another reason for me to regard UA-cam's policies with anger and contempt. They seem to have treated the channel very poorly over the years. Rather than treat HB like a sapling with deep roots. Very shabby.
Forgot to post this earlier in the week. What a treat! What a story. This is one heck of a tale! I would like to read all the books in this series. There are not many people who write about the Picts. Horror, swords, magic, cosmic horror. Are these the same people in "The Children of the Night" that Howard wrote? Fantastic tale and choice, Ian! Thank you!
Happy Birthday Ian. Thank you for such great stories, especially this one. I love tales about the Picts whether they be fiction or nonfiction. This is one of my new favorites and will be listened to many times.
Dear HorrorBabble, would you consider using your immense dramatic narrative powers to bring to life the Robert E. Howard story "Kings of the Night"? It is a magnificent story that has Bran Mak Morn use his sorcerer to bring King Kull to Bran's time in order to fight alongside Bran Mak Morn and a band of Vikings against the Roman legions? It is rousing sword and sorcery story!!!!
Listening to this again I was struck by how much Micheal Mooorcock's, (who's always acknowledged his debt to Howard,) Elric probably owed to Bran Mac Morn.
I think we found what inspired Peter Jackson to use were-worms in the Hobbit. But this was more powerful. Thanks, Ian. Contrary to the custom, you gave us a present on your birthday!
THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU! For THE best horror channel I've found on UA-cam. Great stories and the best narration, no emotionless AI rubbish here. You have real feeling in your voice, and I can tell you love your work
“.. and if anything remains vague, it is only because of the dark cloud which has come over my mind-that cloud and the nebulous nature of the horrors which brought it upon me.” Keep up the good work and, as always, stay safe!
I have to say that Ian has greatly improved his reading skills. When I first started listening to this channel I was a bit disparaging of what I thought were deficiencies of tone and timbre in his voice, and told myself that I could do a better job. But over the past couple of years he has developed a fine dramatic delivery; and his timing, pacing, and emphasis are now quite refined. Re-recording the older versions, especially of the Lovecraft stories, has been a wise and welcome effort. Thank you for the hard work... and well done, sir!
My Father, was a tremendous fan of all things Howard. Anyone else remember the graphic mags filled with the other guys? What a movie this story would make. A tight 90 minutes.
You really did excel on this one, Ian! The tittering of the old crone towards the end was a ROFL moment. You really ought to look at the Solomon Kane sagas - you would really be a 'nice fit'. All the best.
I love this story, unfortunately, I've heard it about a hundred times in the "Weird Tales: 100 Years of Weird" audiobook collection. I'm glad others get to listen to this, though, because it's one of my favorite stories. It's just got a lot of charm :)
I posted an update: UA-cam has decided that I’m not the creator of the content uploaded to FB, so the channel is on hold for now. That aside, I think Worms is more suited to HB.
YOU CAN'T GO WRONG WITH REH... Ian so much of his stuff is in public domain, please keep up the great work with the King of Pulps. I'd love to hear you read Conan the Barbarian, Kull, and Solomon Kane (probably the closest to the "Mythos"). Thank you so much.
Came back to listen to this one a few times now. Awesome story, incredibly well written, and very well narrated of course. Will you be doing any Conan stories? I know there are some copyright issues with Howard's stuff, but I see many other channels doing Conan stories. Would be great on the fantasy channel.
I'm struck by the similarity, in parts, to Tolkien's story of Aragorn calling the Oathbreakers to aid him. They were the men that lived in Middle-Earth before the Numenoreans arrived, broke an oath and retreated to the Paths of the Dead until called forth by a King. Is there a common myth that Howard & Tolkien used, or is this just a coincidence?

He was truly one of the best!

Damn. I'm 29. That is incredible. He's one of my favorite authors now
I guess that's one way of lookin at it. An artist would never include hidden meanin's in their works I guess... 😂😂😂
Damn… I’m 29 and haven’t done a single thing with my life

This is not just Robert E Howard's best story - this is the best Sword and Sorcery story. Period.
It is an amazing work! Fantastic! Never heard it before today!
Crom's teeth! Thank you Mr. Gordon and Horror Babble! You do great justice in narrating Robert E. Howard's works. Excellent as always. Until next time.
Oh warren why would we be without you 😢
How did we live before HB? Genuinely, you have brought much joy with these obscure gems, not to mention Van Melson and co. Have a good one!
Thank you HB! I needed more vermis in my day!
Stellar work as ever Ian. Keep up the amazing work 😄
The opening music was enchanting. The visual is quite striking. And, of course, the story was amazing. It was suspenseful. Great narration. Thank you 🌟🤗❤️
Thanks as always, Amy!

Great story and masterfully told
This is now my favorite REH tale! Great work HB, Ian!

Light SoundFX in the background. Lots of rolling thunder. Butt loads of rolling thunder. And coconut clip-clops.

Just awesome. Great story, great reading. Thank you
Congrats on 200,000 subscribers!!! More to come im certain!❤
Thank you again, Kristina!
Listening to this again I was struck by how much Micheal Mooorcock's, (who's always acknowledged his debt to Howard,) Elric probably owed to Bran Mac Morn.
Many thanks for covering this outstanding story Ian! Could you please do Valley of the worm next?
I've had a few requests for that one. I'll get to it eventually.
@@HorrorBabbleThanks 🙂
Holy wow !!!!!! Never heard of this one before, thank you so much for this chill

Love this story.have been re reading it so many times over the years
A Masterpiece! Thanks, once again, to the Horrorbabble Team!
This story has stirred up something within me,, this is up there with the best of fantasy horrors, and Ian you smashed it yet again. Do well buh

That's kind of you to say. It took quite a while to develop the persona.
Worms of the Earth is my favorite Bran Mak Morn and horror story from Robert E Howard.

What a movie this story would make. A tight 90 minutes.
Thank you!!
That was great!
This is awesome! I'm definitely subscribing, and I think that anyone who enjoys this will also love the podcast The Wrong Station.
Wonderfully read, as always!
Thanks!
Thank you very much!
Thank you and happy birthday.
Robert E Howard, the G!
It’s so cute that lovecraft and howard where besties 😊
The Coming of the White Worm by Clarke Ashton Smith would be a lovely follow up...
Haven't we done that yet ?
We have indeed, Eris: ua-cam.com/video/DsMj6sPbeFU/v-deo.html
This was a really good one. Thanks Ian.
Another milestone, congrats Ian and Jen...200K Subs!😎🎆🥇

This story is a true masterpiece of genre fiction, and Bran Mak Morn is an absolute chad.

A great story to be sure. But I was expecting it to be uploaded to your fantasybabble channel.
I posted an update: UA-cam has decided that I’m not the creator of the content uploaded to FB, so the channel is on hold for now. That aside, I think Worms is more suited to HB.
@@HorrorBabble Oh that's very strange. Sorry to hear that.
Great stuff y'all!
Really good story!
That was a brutal depiction of a crucifixion. 😮 I flinched as I listened.
Indeed.
This was a wonderfully terrifying story
One of Howard’s best. We’ll do.
MERRY CHRISTMAS IAN.
BLESSINGS BE UPON YOU AND YOUR FAMILY..JUST MADE IT A PROPER SCOTTISH CHRISTMAS 4ME🥸👍
Poor Warren. He never got to hear Two Gun Bob on Horror Babble.
Goodness the name of those hills,I supose we have an idea of what the worms are from The dwellers under the tombs. Always fun to see the connections

@HorrorBabble si Ian have you got a date fore the next edition
Great story! About the ancient minions of Crom Cruach, it seems??
❤😊
I don’t recall, but have you done any recordings of the Solomon Kane stories?

As someone who's never listened to a Bran Mak Morn tale, is there any backstory or other tales I need to know in order to really enjoy it?
There are a couple of other stories that feature the character, but I wouldn't say it's necessary to have read them before this one.
What exactly would entail a "purebred roman?"
Worms in the earth? Sure are! Warren!
Eyy
SCOTLAND FOREVER!!!
OK, one of Howard's less well known protagonists.
HB Rocks....👊
Complete
Warren isn’t dead. But he’s experiencing the Glasgow street life. So he might be before long.
I can't imagine they'd be out to get our Warren in Glasgow.
I am running out off HB stories I am getting withdraw symptoms
More to follow!

Perfect pronunciation skills lol
