Just before this podcast was published, we learned that Raclem had his Worlds invitation taken away, and that Ben Simmons who placed 3rd in DLC Melbourne has received a pass down invite to the World Championship ✨
Nice to see Jesse gets his time to shine! I‘m so happy he got at least the Golden Mickey and the satisfaction of Raclem losing his invite (and potentially banned, but they said they won‘t tell us the outcome of the investigation, but I assume there was a ban included). Fun fact: The deck is better when your opp knows about it and fear the manors. Hiram and Tala at 3 and Goof at 4 is to max out OTD winrate. OTP the deck is strong enough. LiG was and is mid, but you need it from time to time after digging a lot and then to sing it to get rid of problems like I did against Top 4 Gantu. Something like unink removal is difficult to fit, because many inkables are secret uninks! We also saw how Raclem had many bricks against me, so did his teammate Fabien. Moyen analyzed it correctly, this deck is quite fix when it comes to the card choices.
Really great that you got Jesse on here to not just talk about BroomGoat but also about his tournament. It's clear from his deck building decisions that he is a very good player and I think people thinking Australia is "soft" will be in for a surprise next DLC
To fix ruby steel I think you would need a location that gains lore and has the ability “if opponent plays character that cost 2 or less they enter play exerted”. That helps the engine while forcing some board removal
Big W for RB and the scene. Love to hear Jesse’s side but missed Brendan cuz I wanted to hear him absolutely unload on rule sharking and cheaters like Clem
Awesome pod guys as always. Question I have is about the line between sharking and trying to gain an advantage legally. Jesse’s, I agree, was a pretty clear case of sharking. Let’s say i’m in R1 of a tournament and G1 my opponent is shuffling in such a way that it reveals the color combo of their deck. This completely alters my mulligan strategy and without question gives me an advantage. But like, is me not looking away sharking? Cheating? Completely fine? Is it legal but frowned upon? I can see how some cases are cut and dry but i’d like to hear your opinions on things that happen a little closer to the line acceptable or unacceptable
Glad to hear you talk about ruby steel in a positive way. It's the deck I play with and I only ever hear hate. Definitely hoping for some more tools in the new set but there are some things in current sets that people undervalue. Obviously not enough to make it to worlds, but I hate hearing it be the default bad deck on content across the globe.
I had a room booked for Vegas ready to go. We were on at the exact time and couldn’t get in. It’s very disheartening and I’m hoping it improves for this next year. Also my boyfriend and I are both competitive players and I would hope we could both go and not leave it to chance.
Off the top of my head, a ruby steel dual ink that's like a 1 quester. . . 3 cost 1 3 with evasive that says " Whenever you banish an opposing characters, gain 1 lore and draw 1 card
Interesting question. Something similar is often done like this for other TCGs. For example, in Star Wars Unlimited, the next level up from a Set Championship is called a Planetary Qualifier (usually 64 - 128 players, still in LGS), and the winner of that event gets a Day 1 buy for the World Championship (There is Day 1, Day 2, and Day 3 in that event. If you get 6-2 record or better, you make Day 2, if you get 6-2 record or better in Day 2, then you make Day 3, and then 3 more rounds of Swiss in Day 3 into Top 8 Cut.) I think for this to happen in Lorcana we would need to see another tier of competitive event in between Set Champs and DLCs.. but if that happens in the future.. I do like the idea of rewarding the winner of an event like this with some kind of "bye", just not sure what type of "bye" it would be, (Straight to Day 2, maybe a bye in Rd 1, etc.) Thanks for the comment!
I had a question for spilled ink. When I scoop my cards after a game, I'll seperate my duplicate items and characters into different parts of the deck before shuffling to avoid clumps. Would this be considered stacking the deck?
Please DO NOT DO THIS. This is 100% considered stacking the deck. A couple of good shuffles to your deck will do just the same thing to separate your duplicates / uninkables. I tend to pile shuffle after I feel like I have lots of dupes together (even though I understand it doesn't change how my cards are randomized at all compared to a normal shuffle), but it allows me to ensure I still have all 60 of my cards. - Kawa.
Regarding regional representation, one way to address this would be to have a 'World Cup' event where each country could send a 'team' to compete. What do you think? 😎
A location that has an enter the battlefield effect of damaging or banishing a character then some good effect each turn. And make it undercosted enough to force consideration of the color pair
Fixing Ruby Steel: Add strong draw that only works if you're playing both Ruby and Steel, so that it doesn't just buff Ruby and Steel separately. That could be a dual color draw card, or a combo where the pieces are split between the two colors. Fixing Amber Sapphire: Same thing but add dual color removal.
What do you guys think about when a judge is called they simply explain the action and scenario that happened without players trying to pitch their argument? Can this only be solved by an actual judge program?
ppl that do get a ticket “really want to go”? I think every1 trying to get a ticket really wants to go. Lottery system or increase amount of ppl would be the fairest imo. The consistency of day 2 also needs to improve. 2k ppl = top 64. 1k = top 32. 500 = top 16
@Moyen, i wasn't going to ever say anything about that match in Seattle DLC since I assumed what transpired was due to maybe you being stressed, or jet lagged or something. But hey since you decided to lie about the events, lets go ahead and clear it up, and several other regular pro players that were at the top tables can corroborate the below. I said ok lets play, and yes was not happy but 100% willing as its your prerogative to want to play it out. YOU called a judge 3x times in the first 10 minutes of our match start: 1. I had a "dexterity error" which led to a "hidden information error" as the rules show, you called a judge, they resolved me accidentally showing a card i was keeping from my mulligan, and we proceeded after losing about 5minutes to judges discussing which of the two errors would apply which in the end was a warning for accidentally revealing a card in my starting hand. 2. You then spent 3+ minutes figuring out what card you want to ink on turn 1 OTP, I then asked you if you knew it was your turn as that is an abnormal amount of time to decide on turn 1 ink. You then told me you were frustrated and distracted and needed some time, I said ok, put my hand down, and leaned back. You then waited 30s looking at your hand and then called a judge, to complain that the players next to us where talking too loudly to ANOTHER judge. The judge in question moved the players and themselves further away. 3. After the judge moved away I asked we good now? and then when you still spent 45s+ deciding on your turn 1, I leaned back in my chair again and slowly shook my head in frustration, while sighing at a reasonable volume. Instantly YOU called judge (not another player/observer as you said in the video) for a third time, saying i was distracting, and need to be told to not shake my head or sigh. The judge very reasonably told you that i was doing NOTHING wrong or derogatory, and said she cannot make me not move my head, and proceeded to sit down and watch the rest of our match, in which very little other discussion occurred between us. The game ended, you took it 2-0 and i moved on to my r9 to take that final round and make day 2, 6-1-2. As i told you before and after the match, I offered an ID, you declined, and hence we played out the match, that had almost nothing to do with my feelings toward the match. Your attitude and us not getting to turn 2 till over 15minutes had elapsed on the clock due to continual judge calls is what led to me not having a "cheery demeanor" during our game, nothing more.
There is always 2 sides of a Story, but I did not lie and stand by everything I said. Yes, I called a judge on your dexterity error (only time I called for a judge this round) and asked people around us to please be more quiet during an early turn. I am not going to argue over the exact times I took for my turns, as there is no point. My early inking decisions were extra difficult considering your demeanor and the noise arround us. While I don't see anything wrong if I called the judge on your continuous headshaking, it was the player on your right who called the judge over. Although the judge said they cannot stop you from shaking your head, once they sat down next to us watching the rest of our games, your demeanor completely changed which made the games a lot more enjoyable.
@TollhouseC If i had a judge called on me(and issue a warning) for something as little and insignificant as accidentally showing a card to my opponent, id be a little irritated as well. Sorry you had to go through that.
Great episode! Glad Jesse got his Mickey. Spilled ink question: Adding to the conversation about having DLCs being « region locked », I’m not for it if it’s the only way to qualify for continentals and world BUT, I don’t know if that exist in other TCGs, do you think it would be fun to have regional or national champions? Like winning a set championship qualifies you for your country’s national championship instead of having to always compete to get to world?

A steel action that lets you draw for each damage on a opposing character would fit well

Well deserved, Jessie.
What does it means to Id or double ID and EV? I’m a beginner so I’m not even sure if that is what you were saying 😬
Question: in terms of DLC, what are your thoughts on set champs receiving a code or first buy option for dlc of their choice
Interesting question. Something similar is often done like this for other TCGs. I think the logic is:
If it matters, then yes it's stacking. If it doesn't matter, why do you need to do it?

Undercosted broken location? No thank you

The ruby/steel would have to be a minion that deals dmg and draws card(s) to even be considered
How does mtg solve the regionality thing?
What do you guys think about when a judge is called they simply explain the action and scenario that happened without players trying to pitch their argument?
Can this only be solved by an actual judge program?
Ravensburger should take ids out of set champs. It’s just lame and cowardly
Was the same haircut required for this ep? Explains why Brenan is not in this one 😂

Moyens volume compared to Kawas and Jesse’s is so much louder. It’s hard to listen too
Increase the capacity and do an actual lotto like One Piece. An actual lotto is fairer than bots and who can refresh faster at a specific time.
In order to be the best you need to beat the best. Let anyone play anywhere if they have the means to do so
can we get Jesse on the pod regularly? He's got some great insight!
Omg, let your guests talk as well jeeez
What’s the number Mickey does he own?
They should have replayed the match instead of giving it to him, we don’t know who would have won. So he really didn’t earn it.🤷🏻♂️

First?
