      The rain here is not as bad as people make it out to be, usually just light drizzle. Many places in the US get more rain than Portland.
      But the Homeless, that is a real problem here.

    Gabriel, I really found Portland to be one of the friendliest cities I have ever visited.

    Portland truly seemed to me to much more grown-up, mature, you know?

    You guys should have a little more sympathy for the homeless. I'm out here in portland homeless and pregnant, while me and my boyfriend don't do drugs we have a healthy amount of empathy for these people. Sit down with someone sometime and just hear their story.

    Back in 2014 I spent about 3 months in Portland just around the corner from PGE park. I tried really hard to like it, but it never happened. Too many homeless wrecking the environment. It was sickening what I saw. For example, a guy pissed on the shelter at a MAX stop while people were sitting in it. Broad daylight. I have no empathy for the homeless. 99% of them can find a job but don't. No excuses. Portland's big library downtown was swarming with idiots littering the sidewalks and being obnoxious +ucks.

      @MeltinJohn 5 років тому +1

      @@vexxevxevvex2622 Wow ya you might be correct actually because 2008 was the last good days now that I analyze it. It wasn't the beginning of a good renaissance. It was on its way to an end. So 1998 actually sounds right since you figure Seattle was hot in 1992.. then it got filled up and Portland in the late 90s got trendy when or before bands like the White Stripes came out or the Strokes.
      It has to be a severe minority of people living in the current Portland thinking its as good as it used to be.
      It can be confusing because Portlandia came out in like 2011-2012 or so promoting Portland so I thought 08 was the beginning of the new renaissance but wouldn't shock me if the first one was actually in 1998 when there was so much availability and was much nicer with even more creative types.
      2012-2014 or so seemed to be the very end of a once good city though and now we're past any good days this place ever had. upcoming collapse is headed for the area I feel and a lot of the west now as LV and Phoenix are due to fill up too.

    Dude what did you film this with? stabilization looked amazing! I saw in another vid you said you returned your gopro 7 so i got curious? When i use my 7 it gets choppy when i slowly move from side to side because it tries to stabilize the image when in fact i just want slow movement... so i gave up on it unfortunately :/

    • @GabrielTravelerVideos
      @GabrielTravelerVideos  5 років тому

      Yes I returned the GoPro 7, so this is filmed with the new one. Unfortunately it has the exact same issue, which is also a stabilization issue but it's different from what you described. It sounds like you didn't apply the latest updates yet, because what you described there sounds like the problem I was having with it when I first got it. Then I applied their updates, which fixed that issue and now there's a different issue. I might make a video about it if I get the chance. The other issue only happens in low lighting or indoor lighting though, so otherwise it does pretty good while filming during the day. So you might want to apply the latest updates and then give it another try and see if that's an improvement.

    • @JumpingPlaces
      @JumpingPlaces 5 років тому

      Gabriel Traveler great to know, I will definitely give it a go as it would definitely be nice to have improved audio and stabilization from the 6 that I have resorted to using. Are you able to explain the low light issue to me?

      @GabrielTravelerVideos  5 років тому

      @@JumpingPlaces Easier to show you. I'm going to upload a raw clip, I'll post it unlisted and then post the link here. Then you can see the problem. So I'll post the link here in a little while once it's uploaded. Also I'll be curious to hear if you have the same problem. I returned my GoPro 7 twice, and all three cameras have had the same problem. So it's clearly an issue with the stabilization update, because it didn't have this problem before applying the update. They had the other problem you mentioned, and I'm not exactly sure which one is worse, but at least it does a good job when filming in strong lighting.

Politically I am a traditional democrat so please to post that I’m a disgruntled conservative.I see lots of needles on the street people now are allowed to sleep in the middle of the sidewalk and the city is putting tons of boulders near the highway on -ramps so the homeless can’t pitch tents there. • @GabrielTravelerVideos
      @GabrielTravelerVideos  5 років тому +2

      I booked my flight to Mexico just two days ago. Lots of factors go into deciding where I'm going next, but ultimately it's usually a pretty spontaneous decision. I sometimes have a general idea of where I'm going next but nothing is ever for certain until I book my next flight. I don't have any other flights booked out of Mexico, so I don't know how long I'll stay there or where I'll go next, though I have some ideas of what I'll be doing. But I really don't know where I'll be next month or for the rest of the year.

    I absolutely love Portland. The architecture is anazing. It has that Gotham City look. Another great video. I'm surprised you haven't been contacted by a production company for some sort of travelogue type show. Maybe think about doing a video of the Oregon Coast from Astoria to Gold Beach and Brookings, maybe include Crescent City. Keep on doing what you do. I really look forward to your next video. I get all psyched when the notification that you've posted a new video pops up on my screen.

      Meltin John, not sure what you mean. Only rich people can live in Portland or drive around the state? That doesn't make any sense.

    • @GabrielTravelerVideos
      @GabrielTravelerVideos  5 років тому +1

      Yeah I think that's where he's coming from. A lot of the comments under this video are from people who have probably never been to Portland, but have some sort of bias against it because of the Portlandia show and things they've seen in the news with Antifa protests, etc. Portland has definitely gotten more expensive to live in, no doubt about that. So I guess that's what Meltin John is referring to. But it's not only for the rich by any means. For one thing, gas is less expensive than California and probably rent is still more affordable than LA, SF or Seattle. It's pretty typical for much of the US. There are expensive houses and also cheaper houses and apartments. And it's not all liberals by any means, though it's been trending that way in recent years. But the rest of Oregon is a lot more conservative. Funny how a lot of people are making politically skewed comments here when I never mentioned anything remotely political in the video.

    • @GabrielTravelerVideos
      @GabrielTravelerVideos  5 років тому

      @@MeltinJohn PS. I left Portland in 2009, ten years ago. So in a sense yes, I'm a decade behind. I had several different one-bedroom apartments for around $450-550 per month. I'm sure those apartments are more expensive now. Regardless, most people in Portland are far from rich.

      Portlandia was very close to the truth when it started. It is much less so now. The traffic in particular is nasty and cutthroat now - not the overly polite version in Portlandia. Everyone moved here and brought where the came from with them. There a few too many rats in the cage now.
      Still its a great place to visit.

I did plenty of couch surfing before there was even a website about it though. Have a great time and stay dry, the forecast shows a lot of rain up here right now.

    • @MeltinJohn
      @MeltinJohn 5 років тому

      I'd rather live in Texas.. not Austin but somewhere like San Antonio than live in Portland now. Portland is also pretty damn cold too seeing its not as wintery. It fools you and just a 20 degree difference from the east coast much of the winter so it doesn't get bitter cold, but it still is bitter cold at say 35 vs 15.. In fact the other night it was 56 there while it was 45 in the Portland area.To me though, this is the same almost nowadays, just to the west. Plus I believe some Portland natives or NW natives, people from Colorado relocated to New Hampshire. If anyone moved to any east coast city right now at the level they came to Portland, it would be flooded. There already enough now and cost is driven up.
      ALSO as quick as people poured into Portland, they can also come OUT too. After the California exodus, there will be a NW exodus.
