#falltrends #furnitureflip #apothecary - Навчання та стиль
Today's video is all about following a new trend, Dark Apothecary Decor! What did you think? Is it pretty or not quite your style? Let me know, I'd love to hear!
I'd add some character. Perhaps apothecary style is not just about painting dark colours but about going bold and finding that magic look added by "years of functional use". A polished and even finish in a brown tone, particularly when there's carving involved, looks to me as if it was plastic, when in fact is nice real wood! Maybe try some darker shades/worn areas, rusts, contrasts, more industrial hardware... I'd start with some dark wax in strategical places plus matte charcoal hardware and feet... But just my opinion...
And waiting for the right season for sure ;)
Love and good luck!
I don’t like the unfinished wood base. it looks…unfinished and cheapens the look of the piece. Also I think the beautiful scrollwork needs to be highlighted or contrasted.
I'm with you on this base. To me, it doesn't look cohesive with the rest of the buffet. Like it's just an afterthought, and not really part of the plan. The bun legs were cute and matched the overall style. The dark brown was a beautiful color and matched the "heavy" feel and mood of the piece.
That’s the style right now. It’s really nice
I agree.
To be honest I think it needs to be darker. For the comfortable library look that’s what you need. Plus the new shoes need to be the same dark colour.
Dress with a candelabra and a pile of old books and subdue lighting.
I think I need a restage too! That was a challenge on this one since I have nothing in my house this type of style! It was hard to style with my boho decor items and make it look right! eek! I will try to see what I have that may fit better! good ideas!
I really like your channel, although this piece is not my favorite. I think with that color it would be much better with a flat finish than the gloss that the paint has. I don't really like brown colors, I think a black or dark green would be better.
My experience is that unless it is a stain, brown does not sell well at all! A 2 toned (paint/stain) is popular, but not solid brown paint!
True. The brown color is flat, unappealing. White would've worked, so would a teal blue. Bright yellow is an option, so is red. The raw wood look on the base is also odd.
Love the color and the base update. I probably would have painted the base or stained with a dark stain. The natural wood is beautiful but not on this piece with the style you are going for.
yes, I think I will restain the base and see what happens. thanks for watching!
Agreed. I would repost in September with fall staging (pumpkin, hay bale, bulrushes, large metal milk jug, etc)
I LOVE this flip. It really does look rich and regal!!
I love your channel. I have repurposed dressers and buffets into small scale kitchen islands. Most of the good deals on these original pieces are because the top is damaged or someone has tried to refinish and stopped mid project. Stone coat the top to highlight the updated kitchen. We are coming out of the white on white on white whole house look. These islands are used as both work space and over deep over hang seating. 🌞🌱❤️
The style and color of the new base is more "mid century modern/scandinavian" rather than dark and moody. What if the base was more of an antique bronze - something that would match the color of the new knobs?
I agree. The base looks out of place due to color. It looks like it's been quickly added & even a little unfinished.
I like it! And look forward to seeing more furniture in this trend. Good luck with the challenge. 🥰
Awesome color! The base is beautiful! Thanks so much for sharing
I think this will sell in the fall when you relist it. This is beautiful piece!! You did a wonderful job!!
It looks well done to me, I like the contrast of the color in the base, I think you could have used a two tone effect with the wood carvings and details on the doors, it would really make them pop. I love pieces with wood carvings to highlight. I personally like real wood and I know paint is the in thing right now. I see beautiful painted pieces and often they highlight a natural or stained wood top. That said certain colors trend, also so maybe it will
I love the dark, library, leather office chair, antique desk type colors so this is perfect. I hope it’s coming back.
I love dark colors and they are coming back in style. I live how it turned out.
Andersonville, Tennessee here! The darker paint was definitely a win-win! Great job! 💕
I had given a black or a very dark stain on the feet, since "Dark Academia" as you said it's basically very dark colours with black as predominant colour, but then you know your market better than me, since I live on the other side of the pond 😉
I love that you give credit for the base of your project. I have seen it done and not a word was said. I wouldn't try one of these super ornate fronts before but now that I have seen yours done I will give it a try.
Haha there’s no way I would have thought of that base on my own! It’s so awesome! I even saw a kit on how to build them at Home Depot!! Can you believe that? So crazy! Yea the front was busy for me but I had 2 of them and they sold so quick so people liked them! Thanks for watching hope to see you next time!
I love this!! It looks amazing with its new base
I ❤dark academia! The buffet turned out gorgeous- thank you for the video.
Great job! In my opinion you should rethink the base, when you look at the buffet form the front, the base doesn’t match. But overall good job! I think this will always be a try and error job and we can never please everyone! Greetings from Portugal 🇵🇹
Such great wood grain on top. I'd like to see ppl do the technique of stain to bring out only the grain. I've seen it before. Stunning results
great project. I am just amazed as to how clean you keep your spray gun. Mine is a mess. Lol!
I think this piece is beautiful! It would be perfect in the fall but I love it anytime.
LOVE EVERY BIT IF THIS PIECE!!! It’s a gem! 🎉💕
I agree!
Loved both colors but the darker brown wins! I love what you did to the piece, I'm surprised it didn't sell.
The contrast between the chest and the base is perfect!
I purchased two end tables with a similar style. Thank you for the inspiration 🎉
You are so welcome!
Honestly we liked the first color but after seeing the new one being sprayed over we ended up liking the darker one better! Loved the outcome of this piece!
Terrific look!
😍 love the 2nd color on this piece. The new base is a beautiful update. 🤞🙏 to listing again in fall. Please keep us updated. 😊
I would have gone with a dark rich blue like a cobalt and gilded the doors centerpieces to work that dimension and make that center detail really stand out. It would be bold but you kinda need to be bold to pull off these 70's design flips.
Great job on this piece! It's fun to explore different styles and get out of our comfort zone. Looking forward to seeing the next one ☺️
thank you so much! And I am so glad you were at the premeir!
@@LemonstoLemonadeFurniture me too, Kara! Super fun to chat with y'all 💕 - Dyana
I really hope it sells well for you when people are more in the mood for fall colors for their homes! Brown painted furniture is not my cup of tea - and I'm not sure why, because I really like brown as a color. I wonder if Sherwin Williams 'Ubane Bronze' would hit that dark apothecary look?
I like the darker color for sure! Turned out beautiful, as always. Not my style, but I absolutely thought the piece was lovely. - Jill
I agree I think this fall it will sell fast. It turned out really nice.
I think the flower part design should come off if possible if it doesn’t damage the front and maybe diff hardware that matches the Hardwre on doors
I think it would have been beautiful to sand the decorative pieces in the center of the doors down to bare wood to match the new base and feet.
I LOVE this!!
This color reminds me a lot of SW Urbane Bronze. Love the color
I love the second color and the base lightens it up ..I think your gut with waiting til Fall which Kids are Back to school and things are more scheduled and Monday is not going for High costs of clothes and backpacks etc and Parents are Getting ready for Amazing Holidays which we Haven't been Truly able to celebrate Post COVID. .I think this Guy will definitely Sell quick in a month...Excited to See which Piece you enter contest with ..You got this🥰❣️👍
Love your work! I would like a black base better or the same color as the piece. I think the light base is too much contrast.
I LOVE it!!! I'd buy it no matter what season it was!!!
I love it!
Hi Kara - I love the color and base. The darker color definitely beat out the chocolate milk. My furniture sales have dropped during summer as well. Good luck listing in fall - would love to know how it goes!
Thanks for the awesome videos and good luck with the challenge!
thank you Maureen! Best wishes to you too. I am sure it will pick back up for all of us in the fall.
Would some brighter slightly larger door handles be a quick inexpensive way of trying a lighter look and it would also connect the pale base with the main piece….?
I thought it was different and I really liked it. 👍
I am super familiar with the look, but I’ve never heard it called “Dark Apothecary.” I’ve heard it called “Moody Maximalist” or “Moody Modern,” so if anyone wants to research the style, those are some buzzwords you can use, too. It’s the kind of look that reminds me of older country clubs , smoking rooms, libraries in wealthy old homes, and even dens. Rich in color and texture…classical decor…and it is completely my style. So thank you for showing an historic style that’s marketed as a new trend!! It is sooooo nice to see something beyond boho and farmhouse!! You did a fabulous job of it, too!!
Yes! I think the whole Harry Potter craze brought it back a little more! Thanks for watching!
Love the contrast! What would you use to seal a wooden chair that has been sanded and stained?
Use an oil based poly if you have used an oil based stain. You can always buy a spray can version if it’s just one chair
The darker color is better than the lighter color but I think redoing the color of the base and knobs to be like a dark bronze and then touch the top edges of the the ornate “carvings” with the same bronze color very lightly try maybe a wax you can adjust the degree of darkness to make more subtle. Or it may look better in the creases of all mounding So it is more “shadowy” not dramatic... in just a brown wax so a smigden darker than the body color. Just enough to be registered as a different depth. I have a ornate carved dark pine buffet and as the years have gone by the taller profiles and trim edges have worn to a softer hue and it is stunning. I get huge compliments on it and people have asked me to let them know if I want to sell it. It just fits in anywhere I put it!
Such great suggestions! Thx!
If you are going for dark and moody the color needs to be a dark umber leaning towards black. Maybe a dark stain on the feet. It's a beautiful piece, but if you want that old library feel it just needs to be darker.
I like the dark color!
I like the finished piece. Agree with the color change.
Thank you!
The color is beautiful but I agree that the color gives a fall/winter vibe
Add a bronze or gold gilding wax on the front design areas just a little along the edges and a walnut base stain would make that base pop I notice that dark and moody academia had a pop of gold or bronze. They also use dark green combos a lot it’s truly a big color to use or black but pops of wood are in there but more dark wood tones of walnut or dark walnut ect..
I love this idea! Thanks!
Color wash on the bottoms in the color of the piece would look better if you want the grain to show. I’m in Florida and we use more color. Hard for me to say. Browns aren’t my cup of tea. Color wash driftwood colors are really nice.
Turned out nice
I think it looks great!
I’d love to know your psi settings when you all spray your pieces with that gun. Please be in touch ❤️🤗
Nice piece...how about leaving the top the same color as the new base? Or taking the original trim off of the bottom of the cabinet and installing the new base in its place?
There is a person out there for this piece. It just may take a while to find them. 👍😀
I think the 2nd color is really nice but don’t care for the light colored base. Not sure I’m a fan of the new trend. I love what you did with the othe buffet - you painted it black and it had a real wow factor. Good luck - hope it sells for you.
The first color looked like a pumpkin ☺️ .. personally dark colors never sell in my opinion except for black . Coloring can be difficult right! But you guys are great at what you do and someone may love it.. I envision a mustardy color with the same legs..
I liked this piece except for the natural color base you put on. Maybe if you did a kind of brass / gold color or black it would look better.
I don't trust the color on my computer. Is this a deep olive green or more brown. It's beautiful either way. It is definitely a 70's piece. I'll be anxious to see what happens when you relist it in the fall.
I really like this piece. It’s unique and the right buyer will snap it up in due time.
Sold it this last weekend! Whooohoo!
@@LemonstoLemonadeFurniture 🙌🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼
I like it...that was a surprised lol
Sorry but it's not a piece I'd want in my home. For preference I'd want either a paint colour or a wood tone, that even includes very dark wood, I'd never buy something that was painted brown. I just don't like medium or dark shades of brown, beige is fine as it's fairly neutral.
I think I would have added some darkness to the door details
I think it's beautiful. I love dark wood anytime of the year.
👍❗
I was so glad you didn’t like the first colour. I can picture the new one in a lot of modern homes. I still have nightmares about a public blowout 💩 my youngest had so have a real aversion to brown 😂😂
Honestly, I'm not a big fan of the color or the dark Apothecary trend, but to each his own. That being said I still think the buffet has great bones and love the new shoes you gave her!!
For some reason I can’t explain, I think think the base needs a dark stain. I do not think the paint is too dark. Otherwise, I think it’s beautiful. Thank you for being willing try different processes and colors. Best wishes for your participation in the DIY challenge.
Thanks for sharing! I actually ended up staining it dark and then it sold right away! So you were on point!
Its looked nice, and I see it selling this fall
That piece is really pretty. I’m surprised that it didn’t sell faster. Good luck in the fall. I feel the darker look is not going to be for everyone. Dark sucks the light out of a room. I painted my walls a darker shade than I usually like and I grew tired of it pretty quick, to my husband’s dismay. Maybe that piece will appeal to a smaller group but it’s very pretty, someone will love it. Great job. I’m glad you changed the color, I too thought the first color looked like chocolate milk.
Thank you Janet! With a little refiguring....it sold yesterday! lol have a great week!
Looks like the furniture pieces mom bought in Nuevo Laredo just after we moved to a Texas border town in 1970; they were black. Simply do not care for it.
I know, right! You could find it in just about every shop you went into over there. There were very few pieces that I would’ve actually bought.
P.S...the base color combination is a superb idea...👍👏👏
thank you friend! hope you had a good weekend!
I think the color is nice but what if you put gold knobs??? that will give some "life" to the piece...
Reading the comments re the base i totally thought the same. Just slightly darker would suit it better imo..love the rest though..🙂
Yep I totally see it now!
Not my style but beautiful any way. You and your husband are very talented ❤️
I actually don’t care for the color that much but it should do better in fall. 😄 I love the other one you did that was caviar color.
The first color was horrible and I'm glad you thought so too. I love the new color and the brass pulls suit it well. I suppose since you're in a warmer climate than I am, the idea of selling it in the fall makes a lot of sense. I like it being on the neutral side and though you call it moody, I see it as fresh even though it's dark. I think the bigger problem is that it's a sideboard and those aren't used as much in homes any longer. But that might be in my area and not yours. I like the final results though for sure.
Yes! It was horrible! lol Yea, sideboards sell well here. People don't use hutches so they like dressers or sideboards more. We wil see if this moves soon! Thanks for watching!
ITs Beautiful
It needs to be even darker, and the base should be painted too.. The colour is too solid for dark academia, which needs to be a kind of British originally expensive but now old and worn look. I suggest dry brushing a burgundy colour, and waxing all the edges with black wax. The cupboard door features are a bit a ugly. I'd strip off the heavy L ribbing, leaving only the central leaf design and gild them lightly with gilding wax, as well as the horizontal borders of the whole piece. Change the hardware to hanging vintage pulls.
Might want to Lighten Up middles
I think it's beautiful and I hope it sold!:)
It did! Thank u!
It’s a nice piece; in my opinion the base looks super unfinished. In this case, I think the original base was much more cohesive.
You did a beautiful job on this dated piece
Nah, sorry - didn’t like it. The new base is great, but those funky panels should have been removed and the whole thing sanded and left beautiful driftwood color. Just my opinion.
I like dark and moody!
Howdy, I really like this. The only thing that I don't like is the bottom color. That natural look doesn't look right. I think perhaps it shod be the same color as the top! ✌️😎
Honestly, not a fan of the bottom. It looks like it is an add on. I would stick with bun or tapered square legs.
Love the second color! The first one was awful…lol. I think it’s beautiful!
IMO apothacary - while yes , it is dark - is mostly a very plain & simple piece , square , many small drawers. It's almost mission style because they are both such simple lines and very simple hardware. Your piece in this video reminds me more of traditional or mid century.
Pretty
Since you asked, I do like the darker color but really dislike the actual piece. Think it would look better if you stained the base a warmer color.
Yes! I think I’m going back to the drawing board on the base! Spot on! Thanks for watching!
@@LemonstoLemonadeFurniture maybe make it a bit chunkier? That’s a heavy looking piece. I enjoy your channel, good luck with it!
I would like it better if the base was the same color as the rest. It just doesn’t look like it belongs
I think switching out the doors would help it sell
Looked better with the original feet.
Hi there. Just wait. Wright buyer will show up! Question. What compressor are you using with your spray gun??? Thanks !!!
I use a 20gal compressor from Harbor Frieght
@@LemonstoLemonadeFurniture
Thanks a lot for your info on this topic. And if it’s not too much to ask… is your spray gun’s tip a 1.4 or a 2 mm??? Thanks in advance even if no response. Appreciate your time!!!
It’s whatever comes with the spray gun. I don’t change it out.
@@LemonstoLemonadeFurniture
Thanks again! Guessing it’s the 1.4 that comes with it. Love your videos…. Great job!!
I like warm and moody but this trend is much to dark for me. That said I do like this piece.😊
