Hello Dr Dave its me again thanks again for your tribute to our national treasure Efren Bata Reyes and acknowlodging him together with Billiards Congress of America? as the GOAT of billiards! 🐐 💯 What I cant comprehend was how he acquired his skills to a level higher than other countries just by playing here in the Philippines? Where did he learn it from? Coz I believe America invented billiards. Watched so many youtube Efren videos. Im not even sure if he was well educated or did he even finish high school? I just cant explain it, especially when he said in his interviews that his peak was when he was in his 20s before he went to USA in 1985??? 🤯 I really cant what I know is he must be a genius to learn these skills kicking pocketing etc all by himself because no one could beat him here. I noticed that even with Pacquiao although Im not sure if he was able to finish high school he had the intelligence to outsmart his opponents to become one of the greatest if not the greatest in their sports.😤😤😤
Simple. He totally dedicated himself to the sport at an early age and worked at it much harder and smarter than most people. He was also surrounded by other good pool players the whole time. He also obviously had some natural ability to excel at the sport.
Thank you for this video sir! What a fitting tribute to the GOAT of pool. I've been watching Bata since I was a kid back here in the Philippines. It was always a watch party for our family especially if it's against his fierce rival, The Pearl. His brief rivalry with The Iceman was a classic too.
Thanks Dave! Really cool video. I live out in Brighton, CO and was so excited that you are close for lessons. Unfortunately I cannot afford to train with you, but I'm sure you've made some great billiards players over the years! Cheers
In basketball, boxing or other sports the term GOAT is often debated but in billiards there’s one and only one name that came out, stands out and agreed and that’s Efren BATA Reyes!
Thank you for this tribute Doc, don't you think its time the EFREN REYES CUP ASIA vs EUROPE AND USA materializes it would truly immortalize the GOAT's legacy
@@DrDaveBilliards Imagine the kind of shots he was doing during his prime in the 1970s when he was said to be virtually unbeatable, before doing televised matches
Actually, I believe about a year later the IPT held an even more lucrative tournament which Efren also won, and Hawaii's own Rodney "Rocket" Morris came in 2nd. The North American Championship? I forgot already, but the IPT couldn't pay Efren at the time (that's when Trudeau started getting into financial and legal troubles I believe) and ended up paying him in installments. Not sure if he got the full amount in the end, but I think he did after a few years.
Thank you for pointing this out. FYI, I just added this "CORRECTION" to the video description and pinned comment: CORRECTION: - AT 1m33s, I said $200,000 was the largest purse. It was at that time. But in 2006, Efren also won the IPT World Open Final, where he won $500,000! I should have mentioned this also.
Efren is old and his days are numbered, but his legacy will be remembered for years to come. I hope i could get his autograph, but his hard to find in Pampangga.
saw him like thrice in pampanga.. he was playing chess at that time early in morning.. you wouldnt even notice him immediately since he is kinda lowkey there.. wanted to have an autograph but i didnt want to bother him..
Ronny O Sullivan in Snooker and Raymond Ceulemans in Carambol....Efren Reyes in Pool Maradona Soccer, Carlsen Chess, Taylor Darts and the best Sportstar of all. Michael Jordan. Sport needs Legends Like Efren
I'm composing a poem (in Filipino dialect) dedicated to the Champ! Efren "Bata" Reyes, a present to his 69th birthday.. and this video is a great material to begin with..hope.I can make a good one. MORE POWER!
Sir Dave, i include 1 English verse for you..and this is subject for reaction..I am just a beginner Sir Dave,,this is my 3rd compositiin in the making..Godspeed! Before I'll raise my hand, signaling for its final wave, Let me first greet the man, the one and only Dr. Dave; With his high respect to all Filipinos, whose paying tribute to the G.O.A.T.; That may produce more champions someday who knows, that is why in return we love them both.
Thank you Sir..the rest are written in Filipino dialect..its a 21 verse poem for now..maybe i'll try to add 1 or 2 verses and later on try to translate in English (whew!)😅
I've done lots of videos dealing with kicking and banking systems (Corner-5 System, Plus System, etc.) useful in 3-cushion here: billiards.colostate.edu/faq/bank-kick/
It is actually not as hard as it looks, but to pull it off in a match situation is still special. FYI, I analyze the shot in my "TOP 10 EFREN REYES FAMOUS SHOTS ... And How to Shoot Them" video (see Shot 2): ua-cam.com/video/V1czUp9k2Uk/v-deo.html
3:52 is one my favorite Efren Reyes' shots of all time... i mean the precision to pull off a safe like that... its like placing it there by hand but he did it with his cue
Hahaha... i like that... he is one of a kind and is one of many; He is a Doctor also like you, he diagnoses the table right after break... He is a surgeon, his thin cuts with surgical precision He's a mathematician with phd in Geometry He's is very good at money because he is a banker He is an unassuming comedian He is the ultimate entertainer And of course we all know his magic and wizardry... i'm very proud that he is my kababayan.
If you believe in yourself and play pool all of the time you can achieve some level of this. I have and it has been through my desire to be as good as Efren
Efren said in one interview he considers jump shots as cheating because it's too easy. That's why he is so good kick shots and where his creativity and skills developed.
The jump shot is a very important weapon in modern pool. Not being able to jump well was probably Efren's only weakness. Sometimes a jump is a much better play than a kick.
I'm gutted my wife is from Iloilo City Philippines and Efren goes there quite a bit and I have missed him twice he has been there my Filipino family didn't think I would know who he is or anyone outside of the Philippines I said he is the goat of 9ball if you know pool you know Efren Reyes even in Australia

Thanks Dave! Really cool video. I live out in Brighton, CO and was so excited that you are close for lessons. Unfortunately I cannot afford to train with you, but I'm sure you've made some great billiards players over the years! Cheers
I'm glad you liked it, and I'm sorry I'm so expensive. :(
He truly is a magician among us 💯
I can only hope to be like 50% as good as he was 🙏
He still is good at age 68!
In basketball, boxing or other sports the term GOAT is often debated but in billiards there’s one and only one name that came out, stands out and agreed and that’s Efren BATA Reyes!
Efren is definitely the undisputed GOAT of pool.
Thank you for this tribute Doc, don't you think its time the EFREN REYES CUP ASIA vs EUROPE AND USA materializes it would truly immortalize the GOAT's legacy
Sounds like a great idea to me. You should suggest it to MatchRoom Sports.
@@DrDaveBilliards I keep posting that on their comments, I hope it enters their psyche.
Beautiful tribute truly a great man
I'm glad you think so.
What is amazing is that his prime was during the 70s and early 80s.
It is also amazing that he was world class for decades!
@@DrDaveBilliards Imagine the kind of shots he was doing during his prime in the 1970s when he was said to be virtually unbeatable, before doing televised matches
@@machoturbo357 It would have been fun to see him during those times also.
Awesome as always thanks Dave
Thank you, and you're welcome.
FYI, I just added this "CORRECTION" to the video description and pinned comment:
CORRECTION:
- AT 1m33s, I said $200,000 was the largest purse. It was at that time. But in 2006, Efren also won the IPT World Open Final, where he won $500,000! I should have mentioned this also.
This was much needed 🙌🏼
Agreed. Well deserved.
DrDave I believe you could possibly beat Efren these days!
Would definitely be a match worth watching.
I honestly don't think I could ever beat Efren, even when he gets old. :)
@@DrDaveBilliards tell you something the both of you have probably forgotten more about the game of pool than I will ever know especially Efren!
The best and most definitive Efren “Bata” Reyes tribute video ever on youtube!!!!!!
Thank you! It is certainly my favorite. :)
Showing this video to anyone doubting Efren’s billiard supremacy ( and yes there are still a lot of them)
Good idea. Me too.
He deserves to be labeled the goat. Humble and skilled.
There is no doubt about that.
Wow..always goat lucky humble lengendary pool master efren bata reyes 👏👏👏 🇵🇭
Greatest strength is his humility.
Peace.
... plus all the other stuff.
Nah how does this Guy do this ? The version like the way he hides the white ball nd escape is out of this world
btw these shots are not your usual tiktok show off shot, this is high stakes, pro level, best of the best tournament shots. The GOAT
Truly GOAT ❤
Yes one of my favorites the Z shot
The only sport in the world that the GOAT is never a debate.
Gretzky, Jordan, and Woods aren’t far behind, but Efren’s story is very strong.
@@conradpolintan6725 you should if i am you!!😁 he never get mad to anyone
I had never played snooker or watched it. One day a random suggestion came and I became a fan of this magician ❤️
It is easy to be an Efren fan (as clearly shown by this video).
The way he hide the ball is epic that guy sleep on billiard table 😴 since birth the living legend 🙌
This man's brain dude. GENIUS!
Great tribute video!
Thanks!
I'm composing a poem (in Filipino dialect) dedicated to the Champ! Efren "Bata" Reyes, a present to his 69th birthday.. and this video is a great material to begin with..hope.I can make a good one. MORE POWER!
Good idea. You can call it “Ode to Efren.”
Sir Dave, i include 1 English verse for you..and this is subject for reaction..I am just a beginner Sir Dave,,this is my 3rd compositiin in the making..Godspeed!
Before I'll raise my hand, signaling for its final wave,
Let me first greet the man, the one and only Dr. Dave;
With his high respect to all Filipinos, whose paying tribute to the G.O.A.T.;
That may produce more champions someday who knows, that is why in return we love them both.
@@justgotluckygodspeed9878 Good job. Thank you for including me.
Thank you Sir..the rest are written in Filipino dialect..its a 21 verse poem for now..maybe i'll try to add 1 or 2 verses and later on try to translate in English (whew!)😅
Have you considered making videos explaining some of those other types of billiards, like 3 cushions and 15 ball rotation? You definitely should!
I've done lots of videos dealing with kicking and banking systems (Corner-5 System, Plus System, etc.) useful in 3-cushion here:

This is one of his best collection video!
Thanks!
3:38 - greatest shot I’ve ever seen
It is actually not as hard as it looks, but to pull it off in a match situation is still special. FYI, I analyze the shot in my "TOP 10 EFREN REYES FAMOUS SHOTS ... And How to Shoot Them" video (see Shot 2):

Going to have to try that shot at 5:22. Such a pretty shot. Possibly worth a breakdown video? Great video as always Dr. Dave. Thank you!!

3:52 is one my favorite Efren Reyes' shots of all time... i mean the precision to pull off a safe like that... its like placing it there by hand but he did it with his cue
He GOaT lucky! :)
Hahaha... i like that... he is one of a kind and is one of many;
He is a Doctor also like you, he diagnoses the table right after break...
He is a surgeon, his thin cuts with surgical precision
He's a mathematician with phd in Geometry
He's is very good at money because he is a banker
He is an unassuming comedian
He is the ultimate entertainer
And of course we all know his magic and wizardry... i'm very proud that he is my kababayan.
Nicely done thanks
Thank you, and you're welcome. I aim to swerve. :)
the one in only the MAGICIAN EFREN REYES
The legend forever!
for me the most humble GOAT in pool
If you believe in yourself and play pool all of the time you can achieve some level of this. I have and it has been through my desire to be as good as Efren
Efren said in one interview he considers jump shots as cheating because it's too easy. That's why he is so good kick shots and where his creativity and skills developed.
The jump shot is a very important weapon in modern pool. Not being able to jump well was probably Efren's only weakness. Sometimes a jump is a much better play than a kick.
The more I practice the more I get lucky - Efren "Bata" Reyes
He GOaT lucky! :)
9:38 imposeble shot
Agree this is #1
Wow man,you are indeed a big fan of Efren, love your channel..
Damn right. He has certainly earned the respect.
