I think a lot of the negative commenters are missing the positives..... Cheap small capacity bikes seem ideal to learn and improve both mechanical and restoration skills on. You may or may not make a bit of money on them but you will certainly enjoy working on them and then have two bikes that could really help people who need some cheap transport. A great benefit to the environment is the bikes not being scrapped and instead going on to be used again. All in all what's not to like??

@@SamsAutoAssortium Don't listen to the naysayers who rightly have missed your point of saving the bikes and improving your restoration skills along the way to use on future projects. They'll never have the self-satisfaction of getting your time down to clean a carby from 3 hours to 30 minutes purely from practice over many projects. Unless you have a really desirable bike and get it cheap, we all know there's no money to be made in the resto process. It's all about getting a heap of junk up to road-worthy standard and standing back and smiling at your accomplishment when the project's complete.
Yup I've been scanning Copart to do the exact same. Take one apart to see how they work and if serviceable then an added bonus! But with how expensive fuel has become would also like to repair/service 125cc to give away to friends and family to save everyone some money 💪

I agree with you, if it was me id advertise the lexmoto spares or repair for 200 to 250 to try and get your money back, and focus on the yamaha. Lexmoto isnt worth a fuck lol
Yeah that's my thoughts, the lexmoto even in good running order isn't worth alot so doesn't seem worth the effort of putting a bunch of time and money into, I'll at least see if I can get it to run before I sell it though 🤟

Was that really the least you could bid? £5 would have been too high. It’s not working and it’s in a terrible state. There’s nothing you can reasonably say is worth salvaging.
There will be a lot of wiring connections in the shiny and glass thing at the front. If you download a wiring diagram and use wire links to bypass the thing that's missing, you could get them going if they are going to go with fresh fuel and jumper leads from your van. No expense....untill you decide that they are worth some expense! If the LexMoto is a runner you'll have doubled your money for an hours work... no money. Same with the 250 virago see if it's a runner before you commit any money. Good luck!

Yes very true! I figure if I can get it running and sort some keys it's gotta be worth somewhere between £150-200 for someone else as a project so I recoup some money towards fixing the yamaha 🤟

Yeah the lexmoto as a spares or repair runner should get me my money back and maybe even a small profit but if I can fix the yamaha without spending to much I should be quids in and have a healthy balance to go towards a new project 🤟

Absolutely, some times you get a deal, sometimes it bites you. You didn't shell out a fortune,and a dump it in for parts,still means you would hardly lose any of that outlay,---- if any.

If you're going to Mitcham-on-sea (Plymouth) take the lexmoto with you. It's the ocean city (apparently). There's loads of boat's. Maybe someone would want to buy a cheap anchor?

Unfortunately even cheap sportsters here in the UK will costs you over 2k which is just out of my budget for the moment buts that's something I'm working towards for a future video 🤟
I like the idea of doing a cafe racer style, I think they look great, but I'm not sure either of these bikes are right for that, though, but definitely an idea for a future project 🤟

@davidwaddington9414 it does indeed but it is a 250, I think they use the same frame and parts they do on the bigger engine models but they just dump a smaller engine in it, they go as low as a 125
I admire your work very much BUT I wouldn't go to all the effort for a poxy little 250. 250s were learner machines in my day. Wouldn't your efforts & money be better spent on something bigger? I wouldn't waste my time on anything less than a 500 to be honest. I have liked & subbed. Best regards
Thanks! It's all a learning curve for me I've only ever really messed with 125cc single cylinder bikes before so the 250 v twin is a bit of a step up for me so I'll spend a bit of time learning a few things with this then the aim is to move onto something a bit bigger with the next project 🤟
@@SamsAutoAssortium Nah. My first ever project was a 750cc triple that I bought in boxes for £60 when I was 18 in 1982. Jump in at the deep end would be my advice.

Thanks, the locket seems pretty cheap but the rust on the swing arms and stuff is more concerning for me not sure if it just surface or not yet, I'll most likely change the lock set and see if I can get it to run
I'll take a look I've been trying to sort the locks on the yamaha first to see if the bike is a runner so I'll turn my attention the the lexmoto in the next couple of days 🤟
The Auction site didn't see you coming. They went out and sent for you! The Lexmoto is a cheap China bike. The 'YBR 125' engine is rock solid (My own AJS has one). The cycle parts should clean up OK. However. Although Lexmoto is a popular 'brand'. It lacks kudos (Unlike the China made AJS). Clean it up and flog it at a loss. The Yamaha is more saleable. However. It's not a desirable model. Getting it back into good order is going to cost more than the Lexmoto. You just might break even here.
@NorthDevonModelSociety yeah they aren't super desirable bikes but I think I'll do a bit better than break even but it's not really about the profit though it's just a bit of fun and some new bikes to work on 🤟
@@SamsAutoAssortium I can only agree with you, up to a point. I've bought basket cases and restored them to roadworthy condition. I've never made a profit on any of the bikes I've done. The pleasure comes from saving a bike from the scrapyard and then riding it for a couple of years. That's how I got my monies worth out of them. The 125 is more saleable than the 250, but the Yamaha has more kudos than the Lexmoto. Both are going to cost money to put back on the road. The question is: Not how much profit I'll make, but how much of a loss am I prepared to accept?

The yamaha dragstar 250 is becoming very desirable, more people will pay for a older Japanese 250 over a Chinese bike. Also the fact not many Japanese small cruiser bike's are not made anymore, is pushing us the value as people do want them now,
i would,nt bother with the lexmoto .i,ve had experience with these zsb ,it is a complete bag of shite .and not worth spending on parts ,that,s if you can find any ,as they dont make the zsb anymore . we used to have 2 of these lexmoto,s zsb for doing cbt,s . and as soon as 3 years of not needing a mot ran out ,we got rid . one of the worst bikes ,we ever used ,proper boneshakers . as for the yammi ,that has a chance .

@Kordziel I'm from swansea in Wales I'm surprised to hear someone say they like the accent 🤣 it's a yamaha 250 dragstar so from what I can gather it's just a smaller version of their V Twin that they use in that bike they make it as small as a 125cc
@@SamsAutoAssortium I apologize for my ignorance, the Welch were a major addition to the forming of this country. They were miners when they came to the US.. They had , and I think it's continued, is the choirs they used to sing in the mines in the Mother lode of CA . It was gold mining. That Yamaha is not available here in the states,it may be in Canada though. I have seen a Chinese clone of the engine in a chopper ,. What keeps it out of the states is the fact that it probably won't pass emissions. Air cooled bikes have a hard time with emissions, do to not being able to get a constant temperature in the engine, that is why many bikes are water-cooled. Glad to meet you. Pete .

It's a yamaha 250 dragstar it's which is a virago witch a bit of different styling from what I've read online worth over a grand running with an MOT so not bad if I can fix it for a couple hundred pound 🤞 but this isn't all about profit it's just fun working on bikes and helps if I get them cheap to start with 😅

The dragstars have been getting over 4 grand with high mileage now, he's done very well on that bike. Yamaha dragstar is a thousand time's better made bike than the virago and a better ride with a massive after market sale's on part's. Highway hawk make custom part's just for this bike.

Hi, not a bad deal, but lexmotto, to be honest, is pretty rubbish, yamaha could be good if nothing much needs doing, and I'd probably keep that for myself. Get rid of lexmotto ASAP as rubbish.
Why have you flopped the video left to right? The number plate is a mirror image at 2:20 Looking at them, the lex will cost more to scrap than it cost, and the Honda will cost more to restore than it will sell for. They do not even look worth stripping and selling on eBay for the parts. .

So I have no issue with Lexmoto rebuilds ( ua-cam.com/users/shorts9QiXbLx6QT4 is me 🤣), but the question is are you doing it for content or profit? You dont need the keys to start it ( I won't write how obviously here), but it could also be the reason whty it was abandoned...
I'll check yours out! I haven't totally ruled out doing the lexmoto it's just I've recently done a 125 so wanted to focus more on the yamaha, it's not all about the profit I want to make content but the profit helps to keep the channel going 🤟
@TringmotionCoUk that's never an ideal position to be in, I'm currently in a dilemma with the ignition for the yamaha as a genuine one is £500 for a new one and the knock off ones are all american spec so they don't come with the correct wiring for the bike 😅
@@SamsAutoAssortium it would be worth going to an auto keys specialist at that price. I am a bit out of the loop, but some barrels will have key numbers stamped on, elsewise a specialist can dismantle the lock and make a key from the mechanism. I used to use motor keys in kensworth, but that's a long way from you!
@TringmotionCoUk unfortunately the lock barrels were damaged so getting a key made was a no go and there were no lock codes on them either 👎 I've contacted a few breakers to see if I can get my hands on one so hopefully I can get a replacement 🤞

The Dragstar has a massive following and worth up to 4 grand depending on mileage, even the 125 Dragstars bring good money. Yes the lexmoto not worth it but that will pay for the offset on the dragster meaning when both bike's are done he's made good money.

everyting about the lex is a ybr 125 so if you need parts just buy ybr stuff its cheaper and easier than looking for stuff for the lex.

Boat anchors aren't cheap I suppose 😂
Can't imagine it would last 5 minutes as an anchor they rust away to quick without being dumped in salt water 😅

@davidwaddington9414 it does indeed but it is a 250, I think they use the same frame and parts they do on the bigger engine models but they just dump a smaller engine in it, they go as low as a 125

I admire your work very much BUT I wouldn't go to all the effort for a poxy little 250. 250s were learner machines in my day. Wouldn't your efforts & money be better spent on something bigger? I wouldn't waste my time on anything less than a 500 to be honest. I have liked & subbed.

Thanks! It's all a learning curve for me I've only ever really messed with 125cc single cylinder bikes before so the 250 v twin is a bit of a step up for me so I'll spend a bit of time learning a few things with this then the aim is to move onto something a bit bigger with the next project 🤟
@@SamsAutoAssortium Nah. My first ever project was a 750cc triple that I bought in boxes for £60 when I was 18 in 1982. Jump in at the deep end would be my advice.

Thanks, the locket seems pretty cheap but the rust on the swing arms and stuff is more concerning for me not sure if it just surface or not yet, I'll most likely change the lock set and see if I can get it to run

The Lexmoto is a cheap China bike. The 'YBR 125' engine is rock solid (My own AJS has one). The cycle parts should clean up OK. However. Although Lexmoto is a popular 'brand'. It lacks kudos (Unlike the China made AJS). Clean it up and flog it at a loss.
The Yamaha is more saleable. However. It's not a desirable model. Getting it back into good order is going to cost more than the Lexmoto. You just might break even here.
@NorthDevonModelSociety yeah they aren't super desirable bikes but I think I'll do a bit better than break even but it's not really about the profit though it's just a bit of fun and some new bikes to work on 🤟
@@SamsAutoAssortium I can only agree with you, up to a point. I've bought basket cases and restored them to roadworthy condition. I've never made a profit on any of the bikes I've done. The pleasure comes from saving a bike from the scrapyard and then riding it for a couple of years. That's how I got my monies worth out of them.
The 125 is more saleable than the 250, but the Yamaha has more kudos than the Lexmoto. Both are going to cost money to put back on the road. The question is: Not how much profit I'll make, but how much of a loss am I prepared to accept?

The yamaha dragstar 250 is becoming very desirable, more people will pay for a older Japanese 250 over a Chinese bike. Also the fact not many Japanese small cruiser bike's are not made anymore, is pushing us the value as people do want them now,

How did you find out about the police auction did you do the 9.99 sign up or was it through a 3rd party like copart or bca and that?
It was a DVLA auction not sure if that counts as a police auction but it was through a company I used to use alot for buying return goods 👍

i would,nt bother with the lexmoto .i,ve had experience with these zsb ,it is a complete bag of shite .and not worth spending on parts ,that,s if you can find any ,as they dont make the zsb anymore . we used to have 2 of these lexmoto,s zsb for doing cbt,s . and as soon as 3 years of not needing a mot ran out ,we got rid . one of the worst bikes ,we ever used ,proper boneshakers . as for the yammi ,that has a chance .
Yeah the lexmoto won't be an ongoing thing I'll be doing some basics to see if I can get it to run and then it can be someone else's project 😅

@Kordziel I'm from swansea in Wales I'm surprised to hear someone say they like the accent 🤣 it's a yamaha 250 dragstar so from what I can gather it's just a smaller version of their V Twin that they use in that bike they make it as small as a 125cc
@@SamsAutoAssortium I apologize for my ignorance, the Welch were a major addition to the forming of this country. They were miners when they came to the US.. They had , and I think it's continued, is the choirs they used to sing in the mines in the Mother lode of CA . It was gold mining. That Yamaha is not available here in the states,it may be in Canada though. I have seen a Chinese clone of the engine in a chopper ,. What keeps it out of the states is the fact that it probably won't pass emissions. Air cooled bikes have a hard time with emissions, do to not being able to get a constant temperature in the engine, that is why many bikes are water-cooled. Glad to meet you. Pete

It's a yamaha 250 dragstar it's which is a virago witch a bit of different styling from what I've read online worth over a grand running with an MOT so not bad if I can fix it for a couple hundred pound 🤞 but this isn't all about profit it's just fun working on bikes and helps if I get them cheap to start with 😅

The dragstars have been getting over 4 grand with high mileage now, he's done very well on that bike. Yamaha dragstar is a thousand time's better made bike than the virago and a better ride with a massive after market sale's on part's. Highway hawk make custom part's just for this bike.
How much was the fuel to go get these.
Not sure exactly but my van ran at just over 40mpg there and back so I was pretty impressed with that 👍

then find the block connecter on the back of the ignition & unconnected it see if you get anything from there
& some do have a code for the key on them too at the back
Sadly no key code but I've got the battery out and on a reconditioning charger so hopefully I get some life into it and get this thing running 🤟
Hi, not a bad deal, but lexmotto, to be honest, is pretty rubbish, yamaha could be good if nothing much needs doing, and I'd probably keep that for myself. Get rid of lexmotto ASAP as rubbish.

Looking at them, the lex will cost more to scrap than it cost, and the Honda will cost more to restore than it will sell for.

So I have no issue with Lexmoto rebuilds ( ua-cam.com/users/shorts9QiXbLx6QT4 is me 🤣), but the question is are you doing it for content or profit? You dont need the keys to start it ( I won't write how obviously here), but it could also be the reason whty it was abandoned...
I'll check yours out! I haven't totally ruled out doing the lexmoto it's just I've recently done a 125 so wanted to focus more on the yamaha, it's not all about the profit I want to make content but the profit helps to keep the channel going 🤟

@TringmotionCoUk that's never an ideal position to be in, I'm currently in a dilemma with the ignition for the yamaha as a genuine one is £500 for a new one and the knock off ones are all american spec so they don't come with the correct wiring for the bike 😅
@@SamsAutoAssortium it would be worth going to an auto keys specialist at that price. I am a bit out of the loop, but some barrels will have key numbers stamped on, elsewise a specialist can dismantle the lock and make a key from the mechanism. I used to use motor keys in kensworth, but that's a long way from you!
@TringmotionCoUk unfortunately the lock barrels were damaged so getting a key made was a no go and there were no lock codes on them either 👎 I've contacted a few breakers to see if I can get my hands on one so hopefully I can get a replacement 🤞

The Dragstar has a massive following and worth up to 4 grand depending on mileage, even the 125 Dragstars bring good money. Yes the lexmoto not worth it but that will pay for the offset on the dragster meaning when both bike's are done he's made good money.
