    If you think I can help you with your knitting ask me a questions here it may give me an idea for my future video - you can use this method of caluclating stitches and rounds but also switching it around and from drawing your own sweater and measurements you can get info how many sts you need for a certain gauge

      hiii video is very helpful, i hv a little doubt about casting stitches, how can i decide that how many stitches should i cast on for neck(for top to down reglan) or for hip area(down to up reglan) according to body size?

    • @Knittingilove
      @Knittingilove  3 роки тому

      @@sanhitasoubharisharma6924 Easiest way is to cast on knit a few rounds. Put sts on hold on waist yarn. Soak that little piece, dry and try it on. Collars have a tendency to stretch (due to holding the weight of the sweater) so maybe knit with smaller knitting needles

      Hello! Currently knitting my first top down raglan sweater. Please could you let me know what method you used to change colours? Do you change at the beginning of the round and on an increase round or knit round? I've watched tutorials on how to do a jogless change but not sure how to incorporate it into a raglan sweater. Thank you!

    • @Knittingilove
      @Knittingilove  2 роки тому +1

      @@kelbyenglish4329 you can totally do it at the beginning of the round & use the lift first stitch of last colour round (I presume you are knitting in the round) when you finish first round of new colour

      Thanks for your quick responded. How appreciated . The reason I asked for help with Bottom Up because the design I wanted to use is one way going up if I use Top Down my design will be upside down. I’m trying to use the Flax pattern by reversing the pattern I’m not sure it will work. Majority of the bottom up tutorial are showing how to attached sleeves and no mention of how to start . Yours are so clear. Thanks a lot👏

    OMG - you're doing that THING I learned in 11th grade with your 4-quadrant calculation: Mr Carter drilled it into us - "cross-multiply by the reciprocal to find the variable!!" Who knew it would keep coming up in Real Life. Helpful video - thanks.

      💕😅 Well at least you know how it’s called. I learned it to get percentage at school but unfortunately I didn’t follow teacher’s formula even though I was getting results right 😅💕 It will also work for calculating yardage compared to grams or even sts knit

    • @Knittingilove

      You either can take bigger size of knitting needles to get it slightly loose or cast on more stitches

      @@KnittingiloveThank you! If I cast on more stitches, do I need to recalculate where the raglan increases happen?

    • @Knittingilove
      @Knittingilove  3 місяці тому +1

      @@kimmykim417 Yes, but as your collar will have more sts you just check the number of the reglan increase in a few rounds ahead and see which round matches your number and where the stitch markers are placed so you can put it there. Think of it as if you took scissors and cut the collar to make it wider so you just took that much away. In this case you make collar wider without changing the size of the sweater you want to knit. 🧶

    What's the calculation for under arm stitches,like you said its 8 stitches in each side, any math for that? Why not increase the yoke to 16 stitches ,I mean for chest contour?

    • @Knittingilove
      @Knittingilove  2 місяці тому

      I presume the no. Of sts for the yoke equals the chest measurement but as we need extra sts to lift arms up they add that amount under arms. That’s make sense?

    Thank you for making this helpful video. I was looking for information on how to calculate or problem solve the raglan increase part. But couldn't find it in the video. My pattern says: Gauge 10 sts, 16 rows. My Gauge says 19 sts, 22 rows. So, the proportions are quite different. If I calculate everything, I don’t have enough rounds for all the necessary increases. I need more round but if I would make more rounds, then the upper part of the body would become way too long. I can only make 8 increases per round right? What to do? Please help!

    • @Knittingilove
      @Knittingilove  3 роки тому

      Please double check is the pattern telling you that the gauge is in 4 inch or 2 inch first. Sounds right but also you could try to make more decreases per round and see. I think with that gauge it will knit up pretty fast.

    Since the Flax sweater comes in both Worsted and Sock weight patterns, could you take the sts from the regular Flax minus the sts for the Light Flax, divide them by two and add them to the sts for the regular Flax to get DK weight?
    I tried to do that with your calculations and ended up with only 2 sts more than you for the cast-on.

    • @Knittingilove

      First of all if you are knitting top down you are increasing (adding stitches) from neckline to the bust/chest+sleeves part. The way you are increasing is important. You either increase to the left or right to get \ (M1L) or / (M1R) [or other types of increases leaning certain way. When you knitting bottom up you will decrease to get \ (Ssk) to / (k2tog). The increase ratio will depend of your Rnd gauge to get perfect lengths but most cases you increase in body, sleeves & back section at the same time - I hope this make sense
