I have a ghillie suit as well as 3 leafy suits in different colors a green a brown and a winter white one, in summer the ghillie is very effective however it is very hot to wear and it picks up every little twig and leaf after a short time you're carrying around half the forest, the leafy suits are lightweight and breathable and I've glued on extra fake leaves to enhance their effectiveness, they are probably the best camo system you can get. @frogsandwich don't know which would be best North mountain makes a good one, they're all about the same quality pick one that has color and foliage density to match the area you'll be hunting in.
I would think standing in the open with it would be very visible however to an animal it would still not look like a human but a loan bush or a tree. The key there would be to be hidden in plain sight. So it’s job of mimicry to the natural surroundings would be pretty solid. I think it’s a good way to stay very hidden but mobility to make a good shot without the suit getting in the way might be an issue.
If you are concerned about interference with your draw you can either buy a kit and make your own or just buy the sleeve hood kit and tie on the jute. By only covering the outside portions of your sleeves up to your shoulders with a hood it would break up your outline while leaving your chest and inside arms clear. Like you mentioned earlier, you wouldn't just stand in the open. If hunting from the ground with a rifle you would want to be behind felled trees, in front of or next to brush, somewhere where a mass wouldn't look unnatural. Ghillie ponchos are designed for upright stalks and the traditional ghillie suits with only the back and back of the legs covered are meant for belly creeps. If you use natural jute make sure you soak it in a flame retardant solution if hunting with a rifle.
Ghillie won on most. But we also need to remember that these types of suites were made to add foliage from the environment too and that is why I would give it a win over the 3d leaf
I may need to get one for my 2022 season and see how it works with my style if hunting. I mostly bow hunt so my concern will be if it would interfere with my draw and release
A leaf suit is a much better base for a ghillie than an actual ghillie. Look at what the Airsoft community has come up with - AirsoftCamMan and KickingMustang have made some unbelievable suits.
@Mad Mike A company called Arcturus makes some really good suits, and they usually have the larger and smaller sizes available - also have at least three patterns to choose from, including Realtree.
found something you might like, instead of hot chocolate mix I started using my chocolate protein powder, all it needs is very warm water, tastes the same as swiss miss!
Ghillie has much less color variation. Adding in a bunch of lighter tufts would make it much better and best out the leaf suit in situations where it was simply that increase in contrast that made it win. Also, the ghillie is a base, you need to supplement it with natural materials. And it's not meant to camouflage you standing up, it's supposed to look like a non-descriptor patch of ground. If you're standing up against a dappled backdrop the leafy suit is better (eg tree stand or stalking).
Ghillie suit took the slight edge on this one, i think the leafy would have done better but the blacked out head made it stand out more than the ghillie suit. I liked this comparison good job.
I guess I could have removed the head or covered it so it was more equal to the Ghillie. I can barely keep a beanie over my ears. I think would feel that the ghillie was limiting on my field of view.
Personally me I would go for leaf ghillie cause it way more comfortable compared to the grass which in my area collects a lot of fox tails and pokeys and is very uncomfortable when they poke you over and over

The Leafy suit disappears better with almost all the ENVIRONMENTS, the GREEN on the Ghillie Stands out too much. And The Ghillie Suit is so BULKY that it draws attention to it rather than away from it. Laying down/PRONE would be a different story.

That is how I feel a ghillie would perform. Great, but be a pain. I may try bowhunting pronghorn with one next year.

Totally depends on the environment. Also you're supposed to add the local brush/environment to a ghilloe suit

I think they are great. My question is about mobility. A ghillie would really be superior in most environments but being mobile, probably the leafy.

Not specifically arcturus, i have done See3D, they are another blaze leafy suit.
For all the the wood and trees and leafys areas I would go with the leaf ghillie but for grass go for grass ghillie

you can get a leafy hood with a camo print veil. it works pretty well.
