- I have been meaning to clean out my makeup and beauty product collection for a long time but when I discovered the book, Toss the Gloss, I was inspired to take the plunge and take you with me! The before and after is incredible and my bathroom is so much more enjoyable now. Give this video a thumbs up for more videos about organization!

Dominique, I have been doing this minimizing everything in my house for the past 6 months. I threw away SO much stuff that was bad, donated a whole bunch of things I didn't need nor used and I feel like a huge weight has been lifted! I also did this to my purse and paper documents. All this was because of the book "The Life Changing Magic of Tidying Up" by Marie Kondo and also because I follow The Minimalists. I am very proud of you, because as a woman, I know how hard it is to let go of all the "stuff" that we buy. Much love to you from The Heights! :)
Rosalba Trujillo I completely agree with a tidy and minimalistic lifestyle. The irony is, I'm quite tidy and organized around the house and with my life, but somehow, the bathroom drawers and cabinets escaped me. I am thrilled they now reflect the rest of my space :) Hello Heights!!

No Zena, I am truly addicted myself. My guilty pleasure is checking out Dominique's videos with my morning coffee. They focus and keep me on track. They are my number one "go too" for the personal motivation, that I require right now in my life. I am 50 and can so relate to the subject matter. God bless this woman ! I watched this video at least 20 times and it helped me get real! I see SOO many UA-camrs purge their "collections" of makeup and thank you for being bluntly honest to yourself and all of us. I just started watching you and I may be younger, but honestly I don't want piles of stuff in my life anymore. Not saying I do, just a reality I think we all face. Thank you SOO much.

Great job!! I LOVE organization and make purging and donating a semi-annual event, and it always feels exhilarating! I live in a small space with very little storage, so I have gotten very creative with how to organize clutter free zones and keep things aesthetically pleasing. I just have to thank you one more time, because I have watched a lot of "cleaning out" videos and this one has inspired me to clean out every room in our house and it feels so good! I have kept things "just in case" for so many years. It does´t matter if it is Chanel or some other expensive brand because if it haven´t been used in 1 years time or longer, it is not going to be used up ever. I spend less time tidying and I have inspired my 6 years old to keep things neat and tidy as well. Such a bonus. You have been so inspiring. Thank you

You r a brave, brave woman. I thought I had a lot of crap! OMG. And it proved to me that being gorgeous doesn't solve every problem.But that's why we all love you. Beneath that stunning exterior is a very real, warm, and practical adult. I just moved back into my apartment that was renovated. I have 25% less storage space and I'm totally overwhelmed. Your video helped me feel a little better about the situation. So between the pandemic, having to set up my apartment all over again, and turning 69, 2020 has been a blast!
Ok, let me just say...HOLY CATS!! I have literally giggled silly watching this. Not just because it was humorous (which it so was!) but also because I just witnessed someone else living out loud my own frustration and feelings about their "product overload"!! I am so relating right now that I cannot even convey this to you! I have "pretended" for so long that I'm using what I have it's just ridiculous! I mean, the only way I could use all the stuff I have is if I was miraculously 25 people rotating in and out of my bathroom 24/7! Which I am not! My biggest thing is that I feel like I would be wasting money just throwing things out but I have to come to grips with money already spent and could be worth my less scattered mind set everytime I go into my bathroom...and closet! You have just inspired me to purge! (Probably not going to finish that foundation that I've had for six years if it's not gone by now!! Aiyiyi!!) THANKYOU! You are just a treat!
You go lady! I am 60 and Toss the Gloss is my favorite go to book as I maneuver embracing where I am. Such solid advice and definitely saves you money. Dupes are the way to go because they are the same products. I felt your relief. Enjoy your new area!
What an inspiration this video was to me, Dominique! You did a great job. I noticed when you started throwing, you did it fast, and didn't give yourself time to second guess. I admire your bravery. It's hard to purge when you're a makeup junkie like a bunch of us are, but like you, I pretend I am going to use stuff and leave it out to "look pretty" but it just ends up taking up space. My husband has been watching football all weekend and I started scrolling thru UA-cam videos and came across this one. THANK YOU! It forced me to take a good hard look at the clutter of items that have inundated my cabinets and drawers and encouraged me to purge the items that I would never use or had become grossly outdated. A much needed cleansing of "stuff"!

I must say this was a treat to watch! This is a task that I have talked myself out of for a long time. Much like you, my vanity and cosmetic storage is packed with STUFF! I have too much of everything and find that I only use a portion of all that stock. HA - Now I will be purchasing that little book and taking on the job of de-cluttering my cosmetics! It does hurt to think we have to toss out all those little things we pay so much for and hope to use one day. I am 50+ and seem to collect more cosmetics/skin care products than I ever have before. Thanks for sharing this video. It has given me the courage to purge!

+RC COCINACORRADI Every time I see those collection videos its like, "For real?" Truly, I love makeup but I used to have a collection not as bad... I've purged my makeup so much and I finally got real, just did it. If its something I haven't used in 3-6 months, its out! I'm spring cleaning my whole apartment and let me tell you, I'm loving the process of simplifying my life - plus going cruelty-free with my hair, skin and makeup products - its worth it!

Hi Dominique, I am from Perth, Western Australia and I have been following you for some time now. You are an inspirational woman and I have been learning lots from you to make improvements in my life. So this morning after I followed your Taupe Smokey Eye Tutorial I then decided that I was going to take the plunge and clean out my bathroom and de clutter and get rid of what I am not using. Great video...last year I parred my make up down to one drawer (admittedly it is a large drawer) but I can see everything altogether and I love that. I now have a one in one out policy so I never waste money like that again!! I was able to buy a chanel handbag this year with the money I saved (and I use only the products I truly love)!!

Great video. Purged mine after an eye infection and tossing the discontinued Dior shadows was traumatic! Cosmetics, like sunscreen have a shelf life. Toss the mascara every three months.
I love these makeup purge videos. I also am very organized with the rest of my life. I feel claustrophobic and don't like owning a lot of "stuff" but when it comes to beauty I just can't let go. Limited edition...old formulas...just name it.
I got better and tore myself away from many old products I hadn't used in a year (some I never wore and wondered what possessed me to buy them) and felt so much better. I experienced some remorse but forced myself not to go digging through my trash can to reclaim anything!

This video was a MUST SEE for me! I recently moved and I still have things in boxes -- I don't know where anything is and it wasn't moved/put where I asked them to put things -- such as: "kitchen" doesn't go upstairs to a bedroom! Ugh!!! I've been so overwhelmed that I haven't been able to actually start the purge I NEED to do -- for every room in the house! Well -- actually, I need to start upstairs where my kitchen items have evidently been placed... Oh!!! I did organize my Christmas "room" (it's the nice and neat room with boxes that are labeled and easy to get to)!
Thanks again, Dominique! I felt your pain in throwing away things that weren't cheap or the "I'll still wear that, it's a good lipstick"! I find that the older I become, the more disorganization really overwhelms me.... Now, if I can just BEGIN going thru all my make-up drawers, it will be one small step for women and one giant leap for this anxiety ridden hoarder of all things beauty!

I wish I could give this a hundred thumbs up! This was the best declutter I've seen in a very long time and so motivating too. I started to purge as well and it is a very freeing feeling to not have so much "stuff". It was all just weighing me down and stressing me out. I LOVE everything about this! We just made a huge move from Houston to California & I spent one week straight going through every nook, cranny, drawer, attic space, or closet doing this. It was a ton of work, but I felt so free & liberated afterwards! Love the organization videos; they are so much fun!

There seems to be a string of these purging vids lately and I love them. They've truly inspired me this summer to clean up my make-up etc. I've been guilty of the same exact thing as you. I have so many lip-colors that at this point I think I'm just hanging on to them for colors sake and not that I'm going to actually wear them. I'm 56 for heavens sake I don't need a fuchsia colored lipstick because it looked great on a You Tuber 20 years younger than I! I also find Dominique that I gravitate towards a variation of the same shade all the time so why do I have all those other colors? Lord have mercy life is complicated enough with all it's choices. Make-up shouldn't have to be.

If there's something I CANNOT bring myself to do is purge my makeup and bath products. I don't have as many as you had, but I do have some old palettes I've been holding to for years and I will never, ever toss before finishing them. I have to say, my heart ached when I saw how many makeup goodies you tossed. I can toss some makeup only if it starts to separate, smell funky or if it falls on the floor (I may cry a little) or breaks (but if a lipstick baton breaks, I put it in a little jar and continue to use it, esp. if it's a color I love).

Sandygirl992 I was wondering about that. Seems like "one year" for makeup, etc. is a little short; I would think it would last longer and I think ladies at the shelter would appreciate some of the products in the "trash" bag. Or at least give the center or shelter the choice to trash or not.

We had 2 houses, main one in Florida was 5 bedrooms, kids grown, do not need a big house. 2nd house, 3 bedrooms with a guest house in the mountains of NC, where we relocated. So putting 2 houses into one (luckily our last child just got married and took a lot of the furniture) was tough but I had to be mindful of what I could really use and what I truly did not need. 9 months later - we just finished renovating the master bath and adding on a closet that I call “My Retreat.” I just purged a lot of makeup and I am so happily organized! I have my makeup table in my closet. Everything is in its proper container and marked so I no longer have to guess where things are. I threw away so much old makeup that I was embarrassed to have. Really! How much lipstick can I wear? I too am a product junkie! Oh my goodness! Your video was fun to watch and cleaning out all areas of the house really feels good! Love your Vlogs!

Everytime I'm doing something like this anywhere in my house, I literally see my money in that trash bag. It feels so bad, I always promise myself not to buy so many stuff...
Loved this video! I did something similar recently and when I thought to myself, gee these bags are heavy, I decided to weigh them. Two trash bags = 35 pounds! 35 pounds of old body cream, self tanner, SPF, hair products, etc. One idea I'm really proud of: I put 5-6 empty travel size containers in their own box. Whenever I travel there's always one extra thing that I want to take a bit of...and now the minis are handy and easy to find.
I bet you can't remember what you chucked out! The joy of dumping rubbish!!
I love this video! Your excitement has encouraged me to tackle the clutter in our bathroom. I am also interested in the book you mentioned, "Toss the Gloss". I will have to check it out. I think that book is taking things a bit far. It's fair enough to throw out anything you haven't used in a year but not everything you've had for more than a year. Most products take more than a year to expire and powder products can be sanitised with alcohol. If you bought an expensive eyeshadow palette 3 years ago and you still liked it would you just arbitrarily throw it away because it's over a year old? I just think it's a waste of money to get rid of things you still like.

Love all your videoes! Somehow this 2015 one popped up yesterday and so last night I went into my makeup drawer and my “backup stash” under my sink. I have a pretty modest collection - no more than a third of what you showed...BUT...my backup stash...oh my!!! 8 new mascaras, etc etc. cleaned out the old. I will not need any new makeup or lotions or potions for a year or maybe more!

Dear video viewers, as much as I love a good purge, I have to confess that this video actually made me quite upset and I'd like to suggest a few alternative actions opposed to simply trashing unused beauty items. Whenever I do a purge, I always try to remember: one (wo)man's trash is another (wo)man's treasure. What I'd like to encourage viewers of this video also looking for a purge to do (instead of just trashing everything) is to see how much stuff you can give away for free outside of your family ... which was great that you also did Dominique - but there's potential for even more! Here's a few ideas: For hair products and cremes that haven't come in contact with your skin, 1) Post it online for free & pick-up only (for me, this method is almost always successful) / sell at a yard sale (they go like hot cakes!), 2) Donate it to salons using the same products, 3) Advertise it to your friends, 4) Bring them to work and leave in a basket on your desk that says "Free" (could also do at church/mosque/synagogue or other community centers), or 5) Spread your products in your various places - purse, work desk, home bathroom - so that multiple items are used-up in parallel as needed. There is no reason that these viable products need to be put into a landfill simply because they're not being used by the *current* owner. Second, the most important lesson of this video should be: How can one prevent themselves from being put into the same situation in the future? My mom has the same tendencies as you Dominique -- and thus I find myself being susceptible to the same as well. Therefore, I have a hard rule that I do not buy a new container of whatever product until my current version (e.g. some hair curling creme, mascara, etc.) is almost done / I realize I don't like it and decide to donate it as described above -- and, once a new product is purchased, I do not open it until the current product is 100% used-up / it's been donated. I even cut-open my product bottles / turn the bottle upside-down into a smaller container (accordingly) to get out whatever could not be accessed by squeezing the tube in every direction possible / vigorously pumping the pump. Any lotion, shampoo/conditioner, face wash, foundation, will work with this method and you'll be amazed by how much product gets trapped inside there! At the end of the day, we all have a responsibility to protect the environment & prevent unnecessary product manufacturing -- and we have a responsibility to provide to our community. Just as we can donate our old clothes, we can also donate our unneeded beauty products to those less fortunate (or those just interested in sampling a new product without committing to the costs). We can all contribute in our own little small way! :o) And now, happy beautifying & purging!
I have to say that not only does viable product get caught in the dispenser, but so does bacteria, no matter how meticulous you may consider yourself. If its over a year or so old, I'm dumping it. One woman's trash is another woman's treasure absolutely...however I choose not to share my bacteria with other women. If you only meant unused or unopened items that werent expired, then I apologize.
One should never use or another to use a product that has touched their face, lips etc. Bacteria develops in makeup as it ages. Viruses, cold sores and many other undesirable things may be transferred to another person. It would be nice if we could pass our purge products to other but it's just not safe.
Clothing can be cleaned and it's a great idea to always pass it on.

That must have been such a cathartic experience! I'm 41 and an ex-YTuber and I have a HOARD of products. I rarely do my hair with product however I seem to have a storage unit for hair products! You've inspired me to get onto it...
My 9 year old granddaughter and I just watched this together and we were both fascinated. She kept looking at me like and when are you going to do this! Haha when I get back home, ( we are on vacation) I actually de cluttered my make up drawers a few weeks ago but have a lot of hair products and such that need to go. I completely understand this video. I moved last November, and I can't believe all the stuff I've accumulated over the years. Not only makeup, but clothes, magazines and etc. Much is still sitting in moving boxes. You've really inspired me to tackle the worst chore that I know I need to do. Thanks & great job ;)

I did this a couple of months ago and yes, it hurt - a lot - but you're absolutely right that it did feel great afterwards and I have a much more organised and edited collection now x

This is the first time I have watched any of your videos, and I just stumbled onto this one and it just had me laughing and relating. You see a year ago I decided to delve into my shame drawers in the bathroom. I found that I needed to be in the right frame of mind (ruthless) but I powered through and end up with these beautiful drawers that sing. And here I am a year later......and they still look the same!!!!! You are liberated and changed forever. I was so funny to see this. You see I just came home from Nordstrom's and their anniversary sale and all those lovely makeup sets to try. They want to come so much. But I can close my eyes and think of what my drawers look like and I know what I need and don't . I stopped myself....self control was mine.!! Good job. And I hope you feel as I do a year down the road. Go conquer girl!
