The car belongs to a dear friend who decided to give it his all with this build. As a project thats close to us, we left no stone unturned to push this lovely High-revving package to its absolute limits.
Joel Joseph, takes us through a full rundown of this unique Honda build and tells us why its special. While its easier to turbocharge the Honda City VTEC and make power, we chose the Naturally Aspirated route since the owner Mr Papu Ramaswamy - A veteran racer who has excelled in cars and bikes in the 70s, 80s and into the early 90s - wanted a unique car that suited his true spirit as a racer. A built package with his inputs and directive on the choice of the build. With sound understanding of cars, and being someone who has fiddled with cars all his life and to this day, he knew exactly what he wanted. A proper big capacity Naturally Aspirated car with tons of character and race spec response and performance. So the car displaces around 1600cc with a massive oversize custom piston, custom sleeved block, forged rods, RC spec camshaft, our cylinder head treatment, Kinsler ITB mated to the cylinder with a custom manifold, RD 1401 Standalone ECU and a lot more inside, then the full close ratio RC gearbox, Comp clutch/flywheel, RC Suspension with Motorsport spec dynamics, Wilwood BBK, Rear Disc Conversion, RC Strut Bars, Sparco Wheels, RC Custom Composite vented hood and a lot more.... All that said, it puts out a super meaty 175whp on pump 99 fuel in conservative trim. Which translates to nearly 200hp at crank. Displacing over 120hp per liter. Which is terrific specific output and the most recorded in street trim with Air Con, by any standards. Not just that, it revs to 8450rpm and still makes truck loads of torque and response low down the range that it almost needs no downshift to play at lower speeds. The engine gets angry enough to wake up at 5500 and gets intoxicating as it crosses the 7000rpm and the massive induction roar wakes up all the cylinders to get the engine spiking till a power peak of 8300rpm before it plateaus to its 8450rpm limiter. An experience best left to the owner of the car for his sunday morning musings!

How do you get around the issue of ethanol blending in petrol pumps with these old cars?
