    I was stationed at NAS Whidbey Island from 1972 thru 1975 and my Navy Parachute Jump club used that facility for our landings. I lived off base about a mile from there and yes the noise from the Grumman A-6 and EA-6 aircraft could be quite loud, but it was a part of life. Logic would be that if noise bothers you dont buy or build next to an active airport or airfield.

    'Make the navy fly less' pfft, they need to fly as often as they do to be at the top of their game, and so they are trained for conflict if it ever broke out. Keep doing what you're doing boys, god's speed and god bless the growler

    Well, maybe you shouldn't of moved into a house within a mile of a active military base. Same kind of people complain about race car noise when they build a house near a racetrack.

      Having grown up in Coupeville, I can relate as this is literally 13 MILES from the main Oak Harbor Naval Base. And to suddenly have all this noise WOULD be distressing.

      Ikr, what did they expect when they moved right next to the OLF?? I live near Paine Field and when the Dreamlifter flies over at 3 in the morning I definitely get woken up by it but it's just one of the things with being near an airport, and I love when that thing flies over too

      The fact she said she researched the area means she did not do a good job. Part of the research, is there an airport nearby. It is like people living next to SeaTac. Poor life decisions.

    NAS Whidbey Island has been in operation since 1942. Anyone who buys land or a home on the island has been required to sign a noise disclosure which includes a map of the flight areas since 1979. Don't move next to an airfield and then complain about the noise. I live on the island and bought near the NAS. I love the sound. I'm guessing those who complain the most moved to the island from places like California.

      I almost completely agree with you, but even as a lowly E5 jet mechanic, the noise does suck. I'm not excusing these litigious self entitled assholes. The base has been around a lot longer than the majority of the populace here. I don't pop a freedom boner every time a jet rumbles my windows and overwhelms everything else I'm trying to hear. I love my job, I love the Navy, I love my country, but the noise is not enjoyable after the 10000 times you hear it. With freedom comes pain and sacrifice, don't be blind to that, or be mindlessly proud. Or maybe you enjoy sniffing the taint fumes of the man you hot racked with on a sub. It's not all picture perfect, my friend.

      @@soulbend Well said. Besides, even if these people signed "noise disclosures," residents are complaining of their homes shaking and being able to feel the vibrations and shockwaves in their bodies, which is way outside of a "noise" only issue. • @christinegreywolf
      @christinegreywolf 2 роки тому +1

      Seriously you need to realize that the increase in noise and vibration has increased dramatically in the last few years with the increase and strength of the newer jets. These same Navy jets now refuel at our local small airport in western Colorado and due to their speed have to take off over my neighborhood or they would not clear the mountains. I am okay with an occasional house shaking experience, but they do touch and goes every day for practice. That was never in the agreement with the airport and neighborhoods.

    1. Ask your doctor about anti anxiety medication.

    4. Buckle up, build some inner fortitude. Because the Navy is not going anywhere.

    6. Form a group where everyone whines and cries about jet noise and have meetings about the oppression of the military while they protect your right to complain...wait you already have that group.

    Maybe some of those folks should go back to California. I have a friend with five acres. Two developers bought off the land next to him some years agp and built a dozen custom mini mansions. Californians moved in and sued my friend for odors relating to his three beef cattle and his chicken noises. They lost, but that was 20 years ago. I doubt they would lose the same case today.

    I am sympathetic to these people. I have the same problem here in western Colorado where the Navy jets are supposed to only refuel and leave. Of course they do touch and go's and in and out over our houses because of the topography they have to use an alternate flight pattern which is right over my neighborhood. It happens every day now. Before you trolls say but you signed an airport agreement, the problem is the increase in use and the improper use for which this small airport was never designed for. My whole house physically shakes. It was never designed for the use of these low fighter jets. My neighbors kids hold their hands over their ears and run screaming into their house. It is quite sad that they can no longer play outside. I have lived in this same area in Grand Junction, CO for over 30 years and this is a new problem. Once again, the problem at Whidbey Island is really the increase in use and the use by these more powerful jets. The Navy needs to be seeking new solutions for a new problem.
